Default Single moms: How do you handle your child's belongings during visits?

So my ex-BF picks up our son every Friday after work and returns him on Sunday night.

I always pack a weekend bag for him with his clothing, shoes, underwear, etc. When he gets dropped off on Sunday night, there are always at least 1 item missing from the bag. Most recently it was a pair of shoes that were a gift from my parents. My ex claims he doesn't know where they are and that I never sent them. My son is still a toddler so he can't be responsible for keeping up with his stuff. I reminded him money is tight and that I am not a position to replace lost items.

So mommys how would you handle this? When your child is with the other parent, do you send along an overnight bag or do you expect them to have enough clothing on hand for your child?

My friend has had the same problem. She started literally showing her x everything that her daugher was bringing with so it made it harder for him to "lie".

When that happened to me I stopped sending a bag and told him to get his own stuff.

Don't send him anything, he's the father; he should have everything available for his child.

my parent's always ask to take my son on the weekends, and at this point i've sent him some clothes that is permanently kept there so i dont have to deal with the sending back and forth every week. so yeah, your ex should buy him clothes for his house, i think that's easiest, or replace the shoes if they magically disappear. i would put my foot down about that, clothing the child is half his responsibility as well as half the kid's other needs.

i have a bag above my washer for stained ripped or whatever clothes that i don't want - i try to send them to their in whatever they came back home in or something from the bag - i have a bag on their bedroom door to take off daddy clothes and put them in the bag - i also take their picture on my phone when they get out of the car - i ask them to bring an outfit for them to change into when they pick them up - not a perfect system but between all of the above it is better

Thanks ladies! I had a talk with my ex and he is going shopping with my son this weekend. Our plan is to have a set of clothes at my place and his father's as well. He also promised to try to locate the "missing" items and bring them to me when he picks up our son this weekend. Progress!
