    Default Exercise

I'm currently in the exercise stage. That's why you haven't seen me around as much. I'm giving myself a couple of months to lose weight and tone before I audition. Tips for increasing flexibility and muscle in the pecs, abs, and glutes would be appreciated.

Yoga! Find a hot yoga or Bikram studio for added weight loss along with flexibility training. If you get unlimited classes and the studio offers a variety of classes, try all of them out! Yin classes are slower and more focused on flexibility and relaxation (though the stretching can get quite intense!). Power flows are more for strength training + flexibility.

Yoga is awesome for developing both flexibility and long, lean muscles.

I second charlie61... especially a bikram/hot yoga studio. I was addicted for the longest time... shed pounds, toned up, skin tightened very quickly! I recommend any power classes or the studio I go to has a sculpt class... it is heated, but not as hot as some of the other classes and incorporates yoga with weights. Super quick way to tone up! I would still be going, but I'm heavily into my weight training routine and working with a trainer and doing boot camps so I don't have the time or energy to do it as well.

    Anyways, to answer your question...
Flexibility: yoga ^ and definitely stretching. focus/google on stretches for your hip flexors, psoas and IT bands; stretch daily, preferably morning, after workout and night (out of all three, I'd say most important would be after your workout)
Pecs: chest press (incline, decline, flat... you want to hit all sides of the muscle); push ups (there are so many variations out there!); dumbbells flies (seated, incline, decline); pull ups; assisted dips
Abs: please don't waste your time doing tons of crunches and core work; I would recommend doing a few core exercises in each workout you do, but the quickest way to get definition here is definitely through HIIT cardio
Glutes: SQUATSSSSSS (weighted front; sumo squats, narrow stance, squat jumps...); donkey kicks; lunges, reverse lunges; deadlift, Romanian deadlift, single leg deadlift (weights with all of these)

    Hope that helps!

As a side note about yoga - look for a studio that offers unlimited monthly classes. Many studios offer a great rate (~$100) for unlimited classes. Which is very worth it if you'd go to class 5x/week! If you're a student, ask them if they offer a discount for students!

Just make sure the studio isn't too far away from where you live (it's harder to motivate yourself to go in if you have to drive 15+ minutes to get there). If it's farther away, you can stack classes (take a couple while you're there) to make up for the inconvenience of the drive.
