Default How to get out of this 'mandatory shift' thing?

I recently started dancing again. At one club, (the best around) they will only let me work days for while (IDK how long it will take to 'work my way up' to weekends.) So I do Sunday says, Monday doubles and Friday days there.

I also got hired at a hole-in-the-wall that surprisingly has good money on weekends, and the reason I'm there is because I can do Friday and Saturday nights there. I told the manager that those two shifts are all I can do, so that's what we agreed on.

Last night as I'm leaving, I talk to him quickly to confirm my schedule, and he pulls it out of his ass that I agreed to do Sundays too. This club is dead most of the time, and Sunday is an absolute no-money day there. I told him I can't and thats not what I agreed on. So he says, "You need to give me another day." I told him I would see what I can do.

The thing is, there *are* no more days I can give this guy. I am stretched thin enough as it is, when I am not dancing I am in school. I don't have a free day to sit around a dead club making no money. I feel like my situation is easy enough to understand and work around, but how do I make that clear to him and get out of this B.S. 'mandatory shift' crap?

I would arrange a meeting and let him know about school. Tell him it's too much and Sunday is your only free day to study. I wouldn't go in and waste time on a Sunday. I know how it is with school and work and it's all about using your time wisely... Screw him!

^^ No but I'm kinda close. WV. Work there and live in VA.

I went into the hole-in-the-wall club tonight to work, and walked out at around 10:30. The manager is a disgusting asshole. He told me I needed to figure out what day I will pick up, saying: "No girl gets to just work weekends, not even the girls that will do anal." He is a misogynistic bastard, and the way he treats the dancers is repulsive. I could not take him anymore. It's not worth poisoning my soul for whatever money I could make there.

    What the fuck, lol.

I never work my scheduled shifts, not ever. Never have, unless I'm feeling like working one of them... Lol. They told me they fine, but I have yet to be fined. Just go in whenever you want and see what happens.

For some reason I've found saying that having a regular full time job is a better excuse than saying you're a student. Next time try to lie and tell them you can't work certain days due to your full time job. It might not always work though, at one club I tried for a night the manager told me that scheduling isn't strict at all there. So I said I could do Fridays and Sat at the moment because I did have a full time job it was a legit reason for me. Then he just pulled this out of his ass and said the same thing, "No one here can only work Fridays and Saturdays." I never went back for another night lol. The guy still texts me asking me to work certain days, even though I never respond to him.

The 'flip side' logic from the clubowner's viewpoint, of course, is that the club needs dancers present every night they are open - thus the 'three night schedule' rule. Allowing a particular dancer to only work the two most lucrative nights each week is arguably 'unfair' to the club's other dancers - some of whom will actively complain. The fact that a particular dancer has taken on other time commitments ... be it at another club, at college, at a 'straight' job, etc. ... is HER problem.

Well, sadly some clubs are stricter than others about scheduling -- or at least some managers are stricter with some girls. It sucks, but other than coming up with excuses, it's not like you can force them to let you only work the print shifts when dancers tend to be a dime a dozen. FWIW I find management is more lenient if you have a good reason (kids or a job, usually), make the club money, and don't start shit. Low drama dancers are a bit harder to come by, so management may be willing to let things slide if you're a good worker. Of course, sometimes, like with most other fields, you've got to pay your dues and work the shitty shifts to earn that leniency. If you're not down with that, all you can do is move on to another club.

Understandable to an extent, but in my case the manager and I agreed only weekends, I said that was all I could do. Then, later he pulled it out of nowhere that I needed to give him a third day. That was the biggest problem; I thought it was uncool to suddenly change his mind.

    KaraLynn, I'll PM you.

I have very similar problems. If I go out of town for the weekend (which is frequently) I'm screwed because there are no other days I can work unless I want to literally get 2 hours of sleep a night 3 nights in a row lol.

Speak to your manager, explain that both school and work are important to you and you want to make it work. If they can't accept the fact you have a life outside of work find another club.

As crazy as it sounds I would be in for this! This guy is unbelievable- all the girls hate him but a lot of them cannot work anywhere else. Constant berating with the most horrible terms. He acts like some big daddy pimp but he's just a loser. All the guy customers love him and think he's hilarious, of course...
