Skype numbers cost but they are not that much money. I want to say it's about 30$/year but I'm not exactly sure. It could be worth the investment because so far skype has been a lot more reliable than google for me, but what can I say, one is free and one isn't. Google voice is ok. Until recently, you could only receive calls to your actual phone (redirected through google voice) if you had an actual cell phone plan (used your minutes). You couldn't receive calls through your data connection. You could make calls/receive using your windows based computer/internet. I think they very recently changed this and integrated google hangouts with google voice, so you may now be able to use any android device (phone or tablet) to make/receive calls via a data connection, without needing a cell phone plan.
Thankyou for that sweety. I looked into Googlenumbers and didn't like the fact it can link you into ALL your google contacts. I have a Gmail account for personal use and a yahoo mail for work so would hate the two to cross over. Skype is probably the best option and yes it is cheap. I actually went into melt down last night when my very old PAYG mobile decided it didn't want to play any more and kept turning off mid calls
. I have another that just needs unlocking from my original network, will try that for a bit and see how it goes. Your response is very much appreciated.

All that sync stuff scares me. I didn't like the fact that before, when I looked at my iPhone's contact list, it showed me the phone numbers for several people on my Facebook friends list. Just because I'm friends with them on FB doesn't mean I need/want access to their phone numbers. But maybe they intended to enable certain settings allowing their FB friends access to their numbers. *shrugs shoulders*

You're welcome! If you have an android phone, there are some free apps out there that give you a phone number for texting/calling, but I don't have any personal experience to comment on them or their quality yet. I have installed the following apps: groove ip, talkatone, textfree and textplus, but have not had a chance to use them, that's why I'm not sure of all the features you get. I believe textplus has free incoming calls, and you have to pay for the outgoing ones. Worth looking into it, if you want to have more than one option for calls and texting regulars too.

With regards to facebook, I have a personal one. I keep strict privacy settings but it'd did bring up a client on my 'people you may know'.... So as well as access to my personal email contacts facebook obviously had access to my work email address which is not associated with my facebook
I set up a camming FB but when FB recommended my profile to my OH I knew it could cause problems so I deleted that one. Obviously my OH knows I cam but I really didn't want other members of my friends/family to find out in that way! Also when I got my very first android phone I thought I was so cool browsing sites on it etc, untill I 'liked' AW's app! lol Didn't realise it would show up on my personal FB page! Needless to say I very quickly 'unliked 'that one lol

Yea I was really lucky that it was a trustworthy hot doctor client, but I quickly changed my profile photo to an animal.
I did not have a work facebook though, facebook imported -without my permission- my contacts from both email addresses, or so it would seem.
The quality on those apps suck. But if you do use them don't link to social media or your real email/name/phone number.
I use a Skype number from my iphone and it's decent. It's CHEAP like $3/month or something - for a phone number and incoming calls which go through wifi or data. You can also run Skype from your computer. And at least on a pc you can even run two instances so if you need to do phone and cam at the same time - just be sure you have your mic all figured out and what not.
My only complaint is the iphone app kinda sucks. I miss a lot of calls bc they literally just don't come through (I don't know until later when it says missed call) and I have to restart the app like once an hour to try and prevent that... But it's worth it to me to not use my personal # or pay for an additional phone line ($50-100/mo.)
