A MAN visiting Brisbane for an engagement party ended up enjoying the hospitality of the City Watch House after he tried to pay for a lap dance with a baggie of cocaine.
Sydney man Mitchell John Sambell, 29, pleaded guilty from the prisoner’s dock of the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday to possessing a dangerous drug after his arrest in the early hours of the morning.
Defence lawyer Nick Hanly said not only was his client very embarrassed after nine hours behind bars, but on his release he would have to face the “wrath” of his angry wife.
Police prosecutor Sgt Matt Kahler said the police were called to The Cabaret Club at Fortitude Valley after Sambell offered a small bag of cocaine as payment for a lap dance at 1.30am.
He said police attended the adult club and found a small clip-sealed bag of white powder in Sambell’s wallet.
Sgt Kahler said Sambell was very remorseful and co-operative with police.
Mr Hanly said his client was in Brisbane to attend an engagement party with his wife of 18-months.
He said he spoke to Mr Sambell’s wife and she was “most disappointed” by his behaviour.
“After leaving here today he’s going to have to deal with the wrath of his wife,” Mr Hanly said.
The court heard the couple was staying at a CBD hotel for the weekend.
Magistrate Linda Bradford-Morgan said Sambell had already experienced “the hospitality of the watch house overnight”.
