Thanks for sharing this!
Wow, she has danced 22 years, I think I would be beyond burnout.lbs.

I was chosen for this documentary by Heidi Burke from pictures 2 the production company that produced it. They wanted to start at my house and film me on my way to M.B. We could not find a club that would let us film. I told her I would be willing to do it if they find a high end club like what I travel to. That looks like Penthouse Denver. I'm a little miffed since I was on the phone with this woman hours a day for about a month. I put a lot of time into it. Oh well...

I wish they would of at least chosen someone of my caliber since none of the clubs I worked were on board...

Nice lady. I liked that.

Not bad, bu she shouldn't said "I left with untaxed green..." The IRS might try to get her for "unpaid green".
Cool article. I like how she highlights the positive and the negative of the industry it not just one sided.
I myself got into dancing because I always had that thought in the back of my head if I ever was stuck financially and needed money I could become a stripper. But I was too chicken because I didn't want to be disowned by a family who had invested in my path towards a vanilla career.
Well years later I find myself stuck financially so what do I do? I start stripping to earn cash to get me back afloat. But like the article says its an industry that is not always easy and at the least requires energy, seductiveness, social skills
lots of things in the article ring true for me. I enjoy reading stories like this. Plus she looks great at 42
“Cook for him like a housewife, fuck him good like a nympho….pay the rent and the car note, he invests in me like crypto”

Awesome interview! It's very inspiring and motivational too. And I agree w/ miss.a.p1600 - she looks amazing at 42! I hope to look half as good as she does when I'm in my 40's.

I really liked this article. I am happy to see something like this on a mainstream news site.
Very interesting read--I think it's interesting she says every dancer she knows thought she was just getting into it "for a weekend." Me and my best dancer friend both talk constantly about how to make a lasting career out of it. We're in our mid-twenties and are saying right now, "We can get at least another ten years out of this." More, if we can look as good as she does at 42! Both of us cocktailed first, though, so maybe that makes a difference on your perspective of the industry. I admit, when I started cocktailing, I thought it was just going to be a summer job. Turns out, it wasn't even that: less than a month later I was already stripping.
Also, I turned in pretty much a 6,000-word version of this article for an assignment for my memoir class (I'm getting a creative writing MFA right now).

Saw the Lisa Ling episode this evening.
Not much there that was very inspiring. Clubs were empty, and the one girl who was on the road alone from her husband and child barely broke even after the hotel bill was paid.
I was surprised to see the older dancer from New Orleans was still making money. $500 that one evening? However, even she admitted to being one of those extra's girls at one time. She said it was only a couple of times she engaged in that behavior with a client outside of the club, but I find that very hard to believe.
Much like the rest of the 1 hour doc, I felt the dancer's grossly embelished how lucrative the business actually is.

I really wished they would of used me. Lol. But all the girls complained they didn't want cameras( they just didn't want me to be more in the spotlight than I am) also I was supposed to be used because I'm a successful traveling dancer. And Kristi I know you haven't been around here a lot but if you thibk 500 a night is embellished you would of shit if they had followed me to M.B. I average 4-7000 a week. And I travel with many girls here who can verify my travel earnings. Though it's good they used un successful girls so maybe everyone will get off the travel thing and leave it us girls who actually know what were doing...
Maybe you could do your own michelle11 if you are popular on social media as well as here I believe there would be others interested in your experiences or learning from you.
Plus it's good to see more perspective into the industry.

^ Thanks! Missap1600. That's a good idea. The lisa ling thing didn't offer compensation anyway. lol. She said maybe a sandwich and a copy of the show. Tell me what lisa ling makes per episode. I don't promote myself on social media so I wouldn't know how to go about it. I thought that would of been a nice retirement , way to exit the business and I could of promoted my new business( related to this business) on there.

I also really like lisa ling. I knew they were moving to CNN from own last feb. Haha. Way before anyone knew. I knew it would be aired on CNN which in my opinion is better than own ( mostly woman watch own). Also they wanted to film the girl i travel with ( who's a member here)since we were driving together and she didn't want to since she's a college student but they were going to blurr her face out so it wasn't a problem. They also wanted to film my daughter, who was totally against it( as well as me). Ha . I was talking about this almost a year ago on here.
here's the youtube link for the full episode!

I'm watching it now and I'm at the part with Clara...she's working in a dive! And it's an "average night for her?" I agree that some of these girls don't seem to know what they're doing...Antonia;s story sounds promising though!

^ Yeah. I refuse to watch it but that's why they were so excited to use me. Because i own 3 homes, have owned businesses and they were soo impressed with how I looked for 45. What a joke.

Well heidi said I was gorgeous and then I told her my age and said not bad for 45. She was like your beautiful for any age and said I looked in my 20's.
^Now that I've watched it I see what it's about: it's a carefully crafted "new" stereotype template for strippers. They showed how "normal" the girls are and how "unglamourous" the job is, with stories of the typical stripper stereotypes (the first two girls) alongside a quirky and eccentric but overall underperforming "sad" stripper (Clara), and this one above average dancer (Antonia) who has another career and a good exit plan in place. I think they didn't chose you michele because you would have been "too successful" for the show as someone who is at the top of their game both dancing and otherwise (I'm assuming if you own 3 properties you're also making income off of them as well), and while the producers probably would have wanted to push the envelope of the existing stereotype with all the media coverage and coinciding political issues/goings on regarding sex work and sex workers lately, they probably didn't want to push it too far. We all know that marketable products are just ever so slightly different from the competition, but overall follow the current trends, and tv shows are products just like everything else. I think the stories the girls on this board have to share would be much better suited to audiences on cable networks like HBO, Showtime, and AMC rather than CNN...and would probably be even more fit for consumption in a show format than anything else. Think Weeds meets Girls meets Breaking Bad type plot lines but with Strippers and fuck a sandwhich, you've got yourself a new bank.

I'm glad I watched this. I started the video thinking, "oh gosh I'm going to watch something about strippers that is unrelatable and makes me totally embarrassed to be a dancer" but I related to each person even in the tiniest ways. Poor Clarah though! Talk about a girl not knowing her worth...
Ugh, my heart went out to Clara. Why on earth would you travel so far for so little? I related to her the most (though one day I aspire to be like Antonia haha) in how she used to be nerdy and shy in school and never felt desirable until she started dancing. I'm just grateful I make more money than that. I hope she starts doing better, or that it was just an off night the show framed like something typical for her (although that club she was in--I definitely would not be surprised if she'd been the top earner there at $140 or whatever it was).

Just watched this and my opinion:
1. The first two strippers seem like the overly excited strippers who are new and think it's glamorous. They are young and beautiful (the one looks Like Beyonce in my opinion)and look at it as an alternative. I wish though they didn't have the stereotypical stories with no dad and one being a single mom.
2. The second story was really sad. That club looked like a dive and the other dancers really weren't attractive at all. Reminds me of a dive I briefly worked at and these types of clubs don't attract the high spenders usually (though I did have a few). When she said $149 a night was her average I felt sorry but that is low, and that was even low when I danced at no contact air dance clubs with bikini or topless dances. I generally worked clubs higher than this one but lower than the other clubs they showed. This club was a jukebox club and those tend to be very low class dives. I wouldn't have traveled to work in this club. Also reminds me of a club I was going to audition at and when they hired me I saw how yucky it was, plus the girls looked mean. I told them I was going to my car to get my bag and took off.
3. The third story was generally positive except when prostitution was brought up. She sounds like she is going to go far and is being smart. I have to wonder though about her going into academia because schools tend to be strict about that. Unless she is teaching adjunct and perhaps teaching things like workshops I think her stripping will be a problem. It didn't mention her education but I assume she has at least a masters as that is the minimum usually to teach in college (though some schools only want Ph.D's and some will take someone with a Bachelor's if they have experience). I know this because I have been pursuing college teaching jobs for years and it is rough.
I watched the show and I can't believe lisa said "when clara wants a big payday she goes up to perle wi for the convention" but when she got there her goal was like 250 or something..wtf kinda goal is that and what kind of $$ does she make in milwalkee, it must be like 50-100/night if she travels to make 250, wow. It makes me thankful as well for the $$ i Make even tho I have my off nights here and there. The girl in nola and the two in myrtle look like they do well tho, I like those stories.
