Default Jumping on the "gluten-free" bandwagon

I thought the day where I had to cut gluten would never come...until last Thursday. I went to this pizzeria (Mellow Mushroom) that I normally go with my husband and ordered my usual order (a small cheese pizza that I share with my son)...but later on I had the same reaction I have when I drink regular milk. If I drink regular milk, I quickly get all sorts of stomach issues (gases, bloating, and diarrhea); I can tolerate yogurt and cheese, but not ice-cream. I ruled out food poisoning because my husband and kid didn't get sick.

To the members who are gluten-free, does it really feels different to be gluten free? Let me be more specific: Does it really make an actual difference to the body?

So far, it's not that horrible; I made some biscuits using rice and flaxseed flour that tasted almost as good as the ones made with wheat flour.

Ive had that gut clench experience after eating grains or too much dairy It makes me realise how much general discomfort the body is dulled to when exposed to grains/gluten/sugar. It really is amazing the difference between Paleo and nnot Paleo. You'll see: or are you only going gluten free?

i've gone ALMOST gluten-free. i haven't cut it out entirely because i dont' have a gluten allergy and if you're like me and you cut it out entirely then you can develop one and make your body extremely sensitive to it ( at least that's what i was told on here when i posted a similar question). but my skin has cleared up a LOT, and i don't get the stomach pain after meals i used to

I found out I was allergic to gluten this past year. As soon as I cut back on it I felt SO much better. No bloating after every meal and feeling that awful feeling of always being very full and having digestive issues. Of course, cutting out ALL gluten is easier said than done, but if I plan all my meals in advance, it's a big help.

I am lactose intolerant and I rarely eat 'heavy' meat like pork sausages. I can barely drink alcohol either.

My stomach is sensitive so i figure I cut back on this stuff and gluten whenever possible.

I may not go 100% gluten free, but certainly wheat free. I imagine I'd ingest small amounts of gluten here and there.

I abused alcohol in my early 20's and now I can't drink as much as I used to; I can only drink very few drinks because if I drink too much I get heartburn. Due to this wheat problem, I need to stick to some wines, and alcoholic beverages like "hard cider" and the like.

I started to read the labels to see if it has "wheat" or not; wheat seems to be the true culprit of the intolerance. Is just that most things that are free of wheat are also gluten free.

At home, I have plenty of oats, brown rice, and potatoes; those are my usual starches anyways. I eat potatoes baked and with the skin; they're great as a source of potassium, too. I'm not too big on bread, except for biscuits; however, those can be easily be made without wheat. If I go out and eat, I just have to ditch anything made with wheat; no breading meats, no bread in the bun, no flour tortilla, etc. I'm not celiac nor deadly allergic, so "cross-contamination" is not my concern; my concern is not having gases, bloating, and soft stools afterwards, and simply removing the wheat products had done that just fine.

BTW, gluten-free pizza is great. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

Oh yeah. I dropped the pounds like crazy when I went full on Paleo.

^ Don't care about fad diets, like Paleo nor I intend to drop excessive amount of weight in a short period of time; it hurts my metabolism. Paleo-anthropology does not support the theory behind the "Paleo" diet.

If anyone else in here follows that diet, fine. I'm not intending to follow such diet; not my thing. Kicking the wheat out of my diet is not synonym of "going paleo".
