Default Dilated Pupils and Drugged Appearance SOBER

I get dilated pupils and this makes me appear drugged. I can't spot a pattern to it.

I don't take any drugs/headache tablets except for a low dose antidepressant. I rarely drink and not at work.

Does anybody have any idea/experience with this?

I got my eyes tested and they were fine..

I can't spot a pattern. It happens at work and in my personal life.

If your eyes are dilated at work, and you work in a dark environment, then your eyes should be dilated (to let in more light in the darkness).

If you simply have naturally more dilated eyes, then I guess I'd see that as a good thing. People's eyes dilate when they're looking at something they like (and also when aroused), so it seems like yet another subtle way to increase your allure!

Is there something aside from your eyes that makes you think that you look drugged?

The other thing it could be is my behavior. Sometimes I am hyper, lots of talking and energy. Othertimes I am much more quiet and slow.

I am easily excitable so if things are hyped at work I get hyped and then tire out by the end of the night.

In contrast to the other girls my talking is probably faster and maybe combined with the pupils makes me seem on uppers?

Have multiple people asked you if you're high? Or is this just something you're worried about?

Are both pupils the same size when dilated? If not, that can be a sign of serious medical issues. Low light in a club will obviously dilate your eyes as that's what allows more light in for you see. It only happens as work, that's your answer.

    ^ I second this.

I have a problem with pupil dilation as well, and it turned out that I had a brain disorder. See a doctor, asap.

What was the diagnosis? I hope it was not serious and they were able to treat it.

^ Chiari malformation and I had also gotten a concussion. No, they can't treat it.

It could be the anti-depressant, they can definitely do this even at low doses.

Has it improved over time? It often does.

Chiari gets worse over time due to the shrinking of the skull with age. The concussion got better after a long bout of PCS.

But enough of the thread jack, lol.

Are you a Bipolar 1 sufferer? The chemical imbalance and/or meds can cause dilated pupils....

I will be seeing my GP soon - so will ask her about my pupils!

I don't have bipolar but it could be the antidepressant.

One thing it could be is caffeine. I occasionally have coffee but I do drink energy drinks at work sometimes. I don't think it suits me.

I have the same problem and I've learned that it is usually nothing to worry about. I dated a surgeon who told me that it's a sign of arousal, and it turns out he was right. This also runs in my family--my sister was turned away from her lasik appointment because her eyes are too dilated and they didn't have a machine for her extra wide pupils. My eye doctor has also commented on it. Last time I went to get my eyes checked, I asked if they were going to dilate my pupils but she said "nope! Your pupils are already so big, I've already looked in them and done the examination without having to use the medicine."

It does get annoying. EVERYONE asks me about them!

Also, some medications can dilate your eyes (such as Wellbutrin).

Huh. I took a low dose of Lexapro once and my eyes were fully dilated for two weeks after I stopped taking it! I've never heard of anyone else having that reaction though. The doctor swore it must be something else.

The question is, is this really a problem? Has anyone commented on it at work?

Oh, yeah, I took lexapro for a couple of days once, and I had this freaky effect where my eyes were dilating and constricting rapidly. It's called "hippus."

I worked out if I mix energy drinks and my anti depressant I get dismayed pupils and appear high to Customers. I talk faster and multiple ppl will comment.

I just stopped the energy drinks and work earlier shifts.

I don't know it this is too late, but colored contacts conceal pupils dilated for any reason
