Default I'm so scared to audition!

So I've been a dancer already for 5 months now. Am fairly good at it and can climb to the top of the pole and do some tricks I have a decent body and all and my club now didn't make me audition. I just walked In and got hired. I want to work at a closer and better club but I am SOOOO nervous to audition. Ugh what are other peoples audition experiences and what happens? Help lol

    Auditions usually go like this:

    3 songs on stage.

One song dancing dressed, maybe a bit of undressing in the middle/end.
One song for more dancing and the rest of the undressing.
One song dancing either topless or nude (depending on the club that you're trying to get hired at).

    Easy as 1-2-3.

Dance as you would normally. Pole tricks, any go-to routines, anything you normally do.
Usually an audition is just a formality. Do what you're used to doing and you'll be fine.

The best piece of advice I can offer is to be enthusiastic and confident. Enthusiasm and condifence will get you hired. You don't need to dance fast or go crazy... just radiate your star quality. Know that you're amazingly sexy. KNOW that you'll get hired. You'll do great.

I have the same problem. I got hired at my current club without auditioning and now I actually have to audition. Just act like it's a normal night. Dance like you normally would, but do your best. Put in 110% but keep it authentic.

Just think what's the worst that could happen? You don't get hired....well at least u have a club u can go back to then. Ive had this happen to me when I went from a dive to upscale club, and as soon as I got through the audition I felt totally comfortable being there. Either way u have nothing to lose.

Well, technically you have already auditioned - you got hired at your current club. Auditions are different at every club. Most clubs I've worked in have hired me on the spot - the audition was a quick conversation and them getting a chance to see my body / face in person. But I've done a couple of 'real' auditions. They really aren't a big deal at all - as others have said, just pretend you're already working there and are going up for yet another stage set. If the manager tries to audition you in some sketchy back room or asks for a lap dance, run. I've never had this happen, but it's worth mentioning.

If you're feeling nervous, ask the hiring manager or whomever if you can spend a few minutes getting a feel for the club before your audition. Then you can sit there, get comfortable, watch what girls do on stage (where they put their clothes / purses, where the pole-cleaning stuff is, etc.), and watch how customers interact with and tip them (or don't tip them - if it's a club where stage tipping is rare, then at least you can witness other girls not getting tipped before you get up there and wonder why no one is tipping).

I always make sure to ask the managers questions, too, before I audition, to make sure I actually want to work there. Ask them about dance prices, contact levels, clientele, whatever. Smile a lot and be very positive - act excited to be there even if you aren't. If the manager starts bragging about the club, act impressed. Let your personality come out a bit if you can. Project confidence; fake it if you aren't feeling it. Confident handshake, body language, etc. Don't ask too many questions; just ask enough to make yourself feel like you're interviewing them just as much as they're interviewing you! As a side note, generally the higher-end the club, the less actual dancing they expect you to do, so I wouldn't be nervous about the dancing itself (they're more interested in your overall appearance, confidence, and ability to strut and pose).

Also, auditions are not good times to bust out the new 8" spike heels you got to impress the boss unless you're a pro...I"d stick to something safer until you get used to the stage and your adrenaline dies down. Erm I've never had to dance for more than 30 seconds to a song during auditions. Usually they just want to see you at least topless to see if your body type will work for that club. Just dance around like you would any other stage set. Do a pole trick if you have time and you'll already be a step ahead. It's quick and painless.

Also wanted to add - if you wear something slightly revealing, managers are more likely to hire you without a formal audition. Depending on how high-end the club is, it could be anything from a body-con dress (for a "gentlemen's club") to something as simple as a pair of nice shorts with a tight tank top or sexy blouse (for mid-tiers and dives). If they can't see the shape of your body, then you will almost always have to audition on stage. Most managers are pretty good at detecting if you're trying to hide something - lots of tattoos, a belly, etc.

For my last 'audition,' the manager took me into his office, and we sat down and chatted. I made sure to keep my body language very open and confident - relaxed (don't sink into the chair, touch your neck, adjust your hair constantly, etc.). This was in fluorescent lighting. I was wearing a nice pair of jean shorts and a tank top with my hair down. We sat and chatted for a few minutes - I talked about my experience dancing, the fact that I'm a hustler, I never drink at work and don't do any drugs, I don't have any tattoos, etc. (talk to your strengths). I 'sold myself' in a few sentences before he had the chance to ask many questions (kept me feeling in control). He then asked me what I wanted to do for my audition. I said "You don't need to audition me. I've done this before. I'm good at my job. I'm punctual, I work hard, and I don't get involved in any drama. When can I start?" He had no further questions.

This is also a very good point. I started looking at the 'club-checking-out process' like this a long time ago & it makes it sooooo much easier to eliminate a lot of the bs that can come w/ starting at a new club. Consider all of the things you want/need in a club to make it worth your while to be there. Of course, you're not likely to get all of those things, but consider them, & consider what you can live w/o & what you can tolerate. It's important to learn as much as you can abt your potential workplace b4 you 'sign on the dotted line'. They are basically interviewing you, albeit a lot less formally than your average vanilla job, but they are sizing you up just the same. Interview them right back so you can make the most informed decision possible abt whether or not to work there.

Yep. Asking them questions gives you a LOT of information about how the club is run. "What are contact levels like here?" If the manager looks away and starts rambling on about how "Oh, we let the girls do whatever they're comfortable with, blah blah blah," then that's a red flag. It's not that you wouldn't want to work there, necessarily, but it helps you set your expectations. "Are there cameras in the private dance area?" "Oh, no, we like to give you and your customers privacy..." There's a huge red flag. "Do you run any promotions during the shifts here?" "Oh yes, we run 2-4-1 specials every hour, and you need to sell 50 t-shirts every night, otherwise we'll add the price of the shirts to your stage fee..." Run!! "Could you give me a tour of the club?" This gives you the opportunity to see what kind of upselling options are available to you.

Be sure to ask about tipouts, minimum dance prices, and anything else that's important to you. Even ask questions they might not expect - ask what the girls are like, whether there's a lot of drama in the club, whether girls seem to like working there, etc. You'll be able to detect bullshit if they start feeding it to you. Some managers are chatty and will be happy to answer any questions you have; others will have far less time and patience. Prioritize the questions that are most important to you if you're dealing with the latter. I usually bring a small notebook + pen (nerdy!) and jot down notes - names of managers and DJs, dance prices, etc.
