Question tips for finding a good agency?

    Hi

been independent for a little over a year now but business has been slow and also my work load (i have a vanilla job and am in school full time) is so heavy right now that letting someone else find clients for me would be super helpful, at least until next semester is over. Im in NYC and have never worked for an agency. I've done some research and compared a few different places with rates and cuts ranging from extremely stupidly low to decent in my opinion. My question is, besides rates/cuts what should i look for in an agency? Also, is it common for the interview to consist of sex also? One agency that so far has the best rates/cuts also requires sex during the interview which seemed sketch to me. I know what the business is but not every agency i called required that. Help a girl out! thanks!!

Don't sleep with anyone to get a job. I've been there and unfortunately I was desperate for money and I did it. Any agency that "requires" an audition it's a scam. These agency owners take advantage of us sex workers, knowing that we really need the money. Then they post girls on backpage and take 50% for doing close to nothing. I'm in a similar dilemma. I've applied to ads on backpage and have either been dealing with rude or scammy black/Spanish men or I've said no to it because they want 50% or 60%.

    Which agencies are you considering?

As ravenskyy says, don't sleep with anyone for a job. Many people are lead to believe that this is the norm, because there's really so much gray area in the industry. It seems like there are more scams out there than not these days, and they really know what to say, how to make it look like a good deal, but there's always a catch. Personally, I don't go looking for agencies on Craigslist or Backpages. I'm not in New York, closer so to LA, but I learned pretty quickly that you do not need an agent to get the kind of work you're looking for, despite whatever everyone tells you. I worked freelance, without an agent, for a long time. I ended up finding a good agency that I wanted to work with after coming in contact with them through one of the booking managers for Hustler. I had submitted my photos on their website, and was promptly contacted for a booking. After doing a couple of jobs, the booking manager offered to take me around to some reputable agencies in the area, and I could choose one if I liked. As I expected, none of these reputable agencies posted on Craigslist.

I started looking on back pages but yes its all extremely bad rates and cuts of 50-60%. I also looked on TER to see which agencies had high ratings and went to their sites directly. Still looking around, nothing seems too promising but thanks for confirming that sex during an audition is a scam, I figured as much but wanted to hear it from someone experienced.

So far the one agency that seems legit (excellent screening practices for clients...i saw the form online and its very thorough) is Provocative Playmates.

No, you don't have to sleep with the owner to get a job at an agency. I danced for two years before deciding I wanted to try out escorting. I had an interview with the manager, he took advantage of the fact that I never escorted and led me to believe it was the norm that someone from the agency would be my first client (without being compensated of course). He said he couldn't let me start working without showing me how the agency want their incalls to be like first. The other agencies I checked out in my area were all uninteresting and it was the highest paying agency I could find. I can't believe I actually fell for that trap, after working so long in the sex industry. I would have never in my right mind gotten naked in front of a strip club owner and let him feel me up for free, I am still so mad at myself for sucking a dick for free. Not only that, but I never ended up working for them.

At the interview, I refused his first offer when he told me that it has to be 100% GFE, it was less than I was making during an hr of bodyrub with only a happy ending at the end. For weeks he contacted me to negociate I kept refusing until he made his final offer we agreed on. Did the photoshoot and the sex part until I found out he lied and had no intention of giving me that amount. A year after I met another girl at a SC and she told me the same thing happened to her. She quit the agency she was working for bc the guy promised her a higher salary but when she joined the agency, he actually paid her less than her previous agency, but he did not try to sleep with her and she was the one who told me it really wasn't the norm even in the escorting industry lol.

I still really regret this. I have never considered working for an agency again after this incident. I don't really have any other advices regarding agencies, hopefully other members can help you out...

Watermark all your pics and don't take any nude pics. Bikini pics are good enough.

Don't work for anyone who is into drugs or dis-organized.

    Research the agency.

wow, im so sorry you went through that! thanks for sharing your experience though. hopefully it will be seen by other girls unsure of the industry norms. They said it so nonchalantly that I also thought it might be a common thing...well, its common for creeps to take advantage of women but its not the industry standard.

I'm very frustrated so far. I've only been seeing 40-50-60% cuts, super low rates and shadiness. I feel like maybe i should just not work for an agency because I can't justify giving away half my money to someone who's really not doing 50% of the work. I am in a tough spot financially and I have no one to borrow from. i've been working extra at the club which has been DEAD and even the customers who ask to meet me outside are offering pocket change. I'm desperate! but people smell desperation so I'm trying to keep calm and ask lots of questions.

Side note: the first agency with a sex-during-interview set up also noted that its not just regular sex, it was to be regular sex, oral and anal and both oral and anal were without a condom! I mean i get the GFE bbj is a thing in some places but with anal...that really worried me because anal sex carries a higher risk for contracting STD's. That was a hard limit for me. Even if it was the standard, i will not have anal without a condom.

Eww, no! Can you imagine if he' doing that with every girl he "auditions"? I mean, wtf?!?

Have you thought about just trying to find someone to screen clients and post your ads for a flat rate? It might be easier for you to find a reputable booker than a decent agency. Good luck!

IMO the only time an agent or agency is worth anything is when you are working in a sketchy city & NEED the customers to know that you have people waiting on you to check in, or even have a "driver" waiting outside.

Working independently is awesome but a lot of customers are major creepbags and the downside to being the only one knowing what's really going on with a situation is....it's your lone word against his.

    My advice is--

    1) make sure the agency is well-known. You don't want to waste your time with an agency that isn't getting a lot of calls. Search online for any forums or escort websites for clients and see what people are saying-- what agency has the most reviews? Which agency is the most talked about? That's the one you want to go with, otherwise you're just wasting your time.

    2) find out everything upfront. How much of a cut are they going to take? Does the client pay you or the agency? What happens if a client turns up and changes their mind, is a no show, or you aren't comfortable and need to cancel? Will they still expect their cut? Are they providing security, a place to work out of? Do you get to pick your own hours, or are they going to expect you to work x on x days? Make sure you're comfortable with the way the agency works and feel safe with their policies.

    3) make sure you're a good fit, physically, experience, and service wise. If you offer GFE, don't go with an agency that's heavy on PSE or BDSM escorts, cause no one will book you. If you don't offer OWO (oral without) don't go with an agency where all the girls are offering OWO and CIM (come in mouth) cause no one will book you. And physically you want to fit in, but also stand out-- if all their escorts are blonde and skinny and you are too, competition is going to be fierce, you might want to go somewhere with more brunettes and exotic looking girls. But you also don't want to look super alternative and go with an agency that is offering more girl next door.

Anyone who asks you to have sex with them is scamming you. Anyone who says you need to pay to have photos done is scamming you-- get your own photos done with a reputable photographer, watermark them, and that's all they should need. Anyone who says they need to see ID, know where you live, or any other personal information is scamming you. Anyone who says they need to see you naked in person, have you perform sexual services on someone else, is scamming you. Anyone who says you need to pay a fee to begin working is scamming you. Here are some good tips for agency hunting:

http://saafe.info (under information for escorts, there's a section on finding an agency)

Personally, I never went with an agency because I loved being independent so much, setting my own prices, choosing who I wanted to work with, making my own hours, I couldn't give it up. I thought about using an agency when I first began and halfway through my career because I was so sick of screening taking up all my free time. But you don't know if things will be busier with an agency-- your agency is competing with all the other agencies to get clients, and even when a client does decide on them, you're competing with all the other girls on their website... and since you're new, you probably won't be recommended by the booker. And, even though their prices do tend to be higher, I couldn't find any that after they took their cut I would actually be making significantly more than I was being indie. My advice would be to try and find an agency that is willing to let you continue working independently so you aren't putting all your eggs in one basket by going with them.

thanks for all the great info, Audrey_k! you listed some questions i hadn't even thought of asking. I did find one agency that didn't try to to ask for sex or see me naked or any other bs. The rates and cut seemed reasonable but it's a newer agency so I don't know if the traffic will be great. I felt good about the interview and will be trying it out for a week (she knows that i also escort indie on the side and is totally ok with that).

Thanks so much for everyone clarifying that sex for an interview is a scam! i feel like this is the number one thing every girl who's looking for an agency should know because its such a common thing to hear that sex with the management is required! so glad i didn't have to learn from experience
