Default Dancing with acne. Is this possible withot makeup?

Okay, right now I am starting to see how much money the dancers make, and I am interested in becoming a dancer. The problem is, i have acne(even at the age of 26.Jesus!) and acne scars. I am doing my best to get rid of them, and to my surprise I am making slow progress. I have struggled with acne all of my life, and I trying to watch what I eat. But the problem with that is, I don't know which food is bothering my skin. I want to say it's greassy fried food, but I hardly eat that. Anyways, enough of that, is it possible I can succeed as a dancer with my acne struggle and doing without makeup? Also the reason why I don't wear make-up cause it causes break outs. But I will if I MUST!

i have acne, and have danced pretty much the entire time i've had it. do you need makeup? yes, imho. my suggestion to you is to go to various makeup counters and ask for samples of their makeup for the most sensitive skin ever. it should be hypoallergenic and fragrance free--make sure you specify these two things. use it on a patch of your face for a week and see what happens.

beyond that i've found that being as gentle as possible with my skin has helped the most. i use cetaphil or J&J's purpose for face wash. if i'm having severe breakouts, i use benzoyl peroxide during the day, but make sure to follow up with an excellent moisturizer at night. i use nerium AD mixed with water at night. it's expensive, but has done wonders for my face re: scarring and acne, and fine lines to boot.i find that mixing moisturizer with a little water before applying also does wonders.

stay away from soda and chocolate, and drink lots of water. i mean a LOT. don't drown yourself, but pretty much replace everything you drink with water instead (except for a glass of juice in the AM for the vitamin C benefits). you can also try supplementing your diet with vitamins A and E.

if none of this works--accutane. it's amazing, but has its price. it can do liver damage if you are not/your doctor is not careful, and def causes birth defects so you will need to be on birth control. you will also notice changed in your skin--i for one never used to get sunburn and now do so easily. also, if you do go on accutane STOP VITAMIN A as this can cause an untoward effects as well.

    hope this helps.

I've had acne since I was a teen. I can't speak for your situation, but I can tell you about my personal experience.

I was on the pill but I was suffering ovarian cysts that sent me to the hospital. I was prescribed a new pill (marvelon) and it cleared up almost all of my acne up. I still have occasional break outs but switching pills and getting my hormones in check was a blessing.

You can try using benzogel, it dries the fuck out of your skin, but it can help. I think that's the main ingredient in proactive btw.

I also started to use goat milk soap (carpina) as it is phosphate free. I use it all over my body. I only use the benzogel as spot treatment now if I get a huge pimple. There is a line of products by a company called indeed (indeedlabs.com). I swear by their two products: pepta-bright during the day to even out blemish discolouration, and the retinol reface at night to help get rid of the tiny bumps. Retinol is really awesome if you have acne, it's not just for wrinkles. But it can dry you out, and make break out for a week or two before you clear up because it basically is purging your skin.

As for makeup, I highly recommend vichy derma blend stick. You can use it on acne, bad eye bags, bruises and so much more. Very friendly for acne prone skin as well. When I get a stick it lasts me 3 months for $30. Google images to see just how awesome it is.

I hope this helps you out a bit.

HHHmmm I might try that goat milk soap. I might have to stop by whole foods to get it, huh?

i use bare minerals and still break out. i have yet to find the perfect concealer, but bare minerals HAS been better than most. you can go to a bare minerals store, they are most experienced with the brand and will help you the most, regardless of skin tone. it does require a special technique.

i also second prussia re: birth control and retinol. both are great for acne fixes, but i always like to start simple and work my way up before spending lots of cash.

No worries IvyLove. Hope I helped you out despite my rant lol. You can pick up Caprina Goat Milk Soap at Walmart for $2, as well as the benzogel for ~$8, at least here in Canada.

The rest (dermablend & indeed) at Shoppers Drug Mart in the makeup section.

I know you're against makeup, but I personally give thumbs up to this one as an acne sufferer. Also, just to give you an idea of the derma blend:

lol you're funny... YES we have Walmarts. And YES we have just as many "interesting" folks hanging out at our Walmarts as down south. That's why I only allow myself to go to Walmart no more than once a month.

I use ROC retinol serum and eye cream. My sisters had horrible acne, like all through high school and into their adult lives so I introduced them to retinols and they threw everything else out.

"Since the first retinoid was approved for acne in 1971, these drugs have been hailed by many as a cure-all for skin problems. Although retinoids may not be the answer to every skin condition, there are several with proven results.
    Retinoids for Acne

If you have moderate to severe acne that hasn't gotten better with other treatments, a retinoid may help. When spread on the skin, retinoids can unclog pores, allowing other medicated creams and gels to work better. They also reduce acne outbreaks by preventing dead cells from clogging pores. By clearing acne and reducing outbreaks, they may also reduce the formation of acne scars."
    http://www.webmd.com/beauty/aging/re...eam-treatments

It unclogs pores and kills bacteria, not to mention prevents wrinkles. I use the serum and clean and clear dual action moisturizer over it for added moisture. I love the combo and never, ever get breakouts.

As for the makeup thing, yesss you need it. That's your face. It's what you use to ask for dances. Mineral makeup is....good...but it might not be enough coverage. As long as you're washing it off right as you get home, drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep, you're good to go. Maybe watch your sugar intake too.

I swear by Proactiv it's gentle and effective (better than oxyclean, neutrogena, etc.) but the key is using it twice a day to clear up and prevent new breakouts.

Also I recommend mineral makeup to me it seems lighter and it doesn't clog pores.

I also make sure to wash my makeup brushes frequently, throw away expired makeup, and use hypoallergenic makeup (like sheer cover makeup) when possible

yes its totally possible to dance with acne! i worked with a girl with HORRIBLE acne, but once she put on makeup she looked flawless. she was so good at it, that one day she walked in and i had no idea who she was. she was unrecognizable! you'll just need a very good concealer and full coverage foundation. there's this girl on youtube who has a channel all about covering acne and certain makeup techniques. cassandra bankson i believe.
but yes, you will need makeup.

i used to get cystic acne, but a few things that have helped : prescription retin A. the over the counter crap doesn't do anything. but be sure to use sunscreen.
changing my diet to raw veggie rich and cutting out alcohol/cigs/all processed sugars. dandelion greens cleanse your liver, kidneys, and skin its my secret acne-fighting weapon. and just be super gentle with your skin, treat it like a baby!

Tanning once a week in a low level bed for 5-8 minutes was absolute magic for my skin. Also, daily exercise, copious amounts of water and meditation. Stress and low self esteem caused my acne, once I started taking care of myself, it completely vanished.

My ex boyfriend from Hong Kong was all about Chinese medicine and could tell me based on where I broke out what was causing it. He was almost always right. Here's a link to a chart explaining what I mean: http://www.skinacea.com/acne/acne-fa...l#.VH85F77nZMt Hope that helps. I don't break out much anymore but it's usually a diet issue.
