    Default Christmas/Year-End Tipping for ATF?

It's nearing the end of year - and my wife and I were curious on Christmas/year-end tipping. Our postal carrier and trash pickup guys usually get plates of homemade cookies. We tip our hairdresser (who cuts the whole family) $200. This is the 1st Christmas we've had an ATF in a strip club and were trying to figure out what to do. From our conversations, we know of a particular massage/spa establishment that she frequents, so we were thinking a gift certificate there would be nice. Cash is always nice (spends anywhere) but it's fairly impersonal. And any thoughts on the dollar amt? Aside from when we splurged on our anniversary and birthdays, we're usually spending about $500 a session - $350-$400 for her time plus $100-$150 tip.

Appreciate any feedback/ideas you might have...

Hell - that's why I asked! We normally go out of the way to tip our service providers, but this is obviously uncharted territory for us. Do you girls not normally get holiday tips from your regulars?

Other than direct cash as a holiday tip, I had one customer give me $200 & say 'Go buy yourself a nice bracelet w/ this.' We had been talking abt jewellery last time he was in -- nothing in particular, just our respective preferences & mutual appreciation for quality craftsmanship. For sm reason that part of the conversation stuck w/ him & he wanted to get me smtg nice along those lines, but had no real idea abt my tastes beyond the costume pieces I wore at work, so he gave me the $$ to choose my own present. I really appreciated that approach, rather than a present bought on an assumption, bc I think it can get real dicey real quick w/ smtg as potentially meaningful & expensive as jewellery.

I still have that bracelet, I wear it pretty frequently & always remember him w/ appreciation.

So that's my suggestion, whether you give it to her for jewellery, or a kitchen item she mentioned, or whatever else. I also like the spa gift card idea. Smtg like that is very thoughtful & useful w/o being potentially intrusive.

Cash in a Christmas card would be a good idea, but I think the gift certificate to the spa is perfectly appropriate. I'm not sure on a $$ amount, but at least make sure it's enough for her to get a nice service (some places are hella expensive and $100 wouldn't even cover an hour massage)... check out the spa's 'menu' online.

Basically you can't go wrong with cash or gift cards... you can go very wrong and waste money if you try to pick out jewelry or something.
