    Default Windows 7 or 8.1

I just got the Acer Aspire V15 and it has Windows 8.1 on it. My bf suggested downgrading to Windows 7. As my last laptop still was running on XP I am unfamiliar with both.

I would appreciate any comments for and against each option.

Additionally, I have a Logitech C920 webcam if this makes a difference. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to load. I can see it in my devices but can't find the application itself. I only got my laptop today so still unsure how to manuever around Windows 8.1

    Any assistance appreciated.

Note I did do a search but didn't find a similar thread. If there is one I apologize.

there have been a couple of issue with the drivers working on 8.1 - it seems to be hit and miss - there are a few threads on it - the search function on SW can miss threads so you might try to google it or reword it here - they have a beta of Windows 10 out and due for release in April 2015 I think so it seems pointless to install 7 - just my opinion you might as well take the leap now to 8 - I hated 8 when I first got it - had a few crying sessions when I couldnt figure something out but I finally got it - you can actually set up a desktop that looks and functions like the older versions - that would probably be a good option for you - best of luck

I recently bought a windows 8.1 Levono...took a while to get things sorted out, and I had to run windows live movie maker in compatibility for windows 7. I had no problem with my Logitech c920, I downloaded the software and I have the icon on my desktop.

It won't read MOV files and I had trouble deleting files so that I could access my other videos once I had MOV files in my videos folder, so I use my boyfriend's laptop for videos made with my iphone. There has been a major update since, so maybe that has been fixed now.

Download Classic Shell to give you a windows 7 style start button and menu - http://www.classicshell.net/

Watch out for downloads using CNET, I got a nasty virus from one and CNET is meant to be safe. My computer repair guy found the same thing a couple of days before I had to call him for help. No idea if CNET have the issue fixed now. ADW cleaner got rid of it but adblocker plus doesn't block all ads so I wonder if it got rid of everything.

I have an Asus Desktop Windows 8.1 you need to go to the logitech website and install the windows 8 driver for your webcam.

At this point microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 7 or lower so you will have to upgrade to windows 8 and probably whatever else they come up with in the future.

Yes windows app page does make things a little annoying, but you can customize that to have the things you actually use and want on it pretty easy. plus luckily there is a video tutorial out there for everything these days.

Plus a quick restore to factory settings on a windows pc does wonders in getting certain problems solved.

As for accessible MOV files that goes easier when you have a video editing software higher then basic windows movie maker. This is where you need to invest in a proper video editing software or you will have to a file converting software I generally use prism video converter.

The MOV file issue is to do with windows 8.1, its a very common issue if googled...it causes windows explorer to crash just by trying to select a file, it's not connected to any editing software. I also have Adobe Premier Elements.

I hated windows 8 when I had it, driver issues, random crashes, it was pure hell for me. I prefer windows 7 professional.

yeah CNET is 100% virus installation now. EVERY SINGLE THING I have ever downloaded from CNET has come with a virus so I stopped using CNET.

Defiantly stay with windows 8.1 windows 7 is a ram hog very clunky compared to windows 8. If you miss the start menu and ease of navigation in windows xp and 7 you can always download the new windows 10 preview from Microsoft it has all the old functionality of the original windows such as the start menu and is much easier to navigate. All of my pc's are currently running windows 10 technical preview and I love it. You can download it for free here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview

With your webcam Logitech c920 you need to download and install the driver package for your OS it can be downloaded here http://support.logitech.com/en_us/pr...-c920#download

For video editing in my opinion Camtaisia is the way to go. It is easy to navigate and use while still being a full featured powerful video editing and screen capture tool. http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.ht...g2YaArLm8P8HAQ

CNET is still a great place to get software you just have to be careful when using their package installer. They do not distribute Viruses but they do package their downloads with addware and unwanted trial software. If you read what your are accepting on each of the steps you will find you are accepting to install other software on top of what you have downloaded. They are tricky you do have to be careful and read. This is how 99% of free software distributors make money.

Unfortunately they are no longer virus free..unless they have fixed it in the last couple of weeks. Even the computer repair guy I use trusted their site and downloaded a virus. It's not just a matter of unchecking the boxes for the extras.

Windows 10. I've been using it for a month now, and I love it. They brought the start menu back, streamlined everything, and made it faster.
