Default When hard work doesn't mean more $$?

I know this is kinda the nature of this job, but it's weird to have a job where hard work doesn't necessarily mean more money. With most jobs, the more hours you put in, the more money you make. That's totally untrue with dancing. Like, I could work every single day at every hour, and if the right customer isn't there, that might still be bad $$wise. The flip side is also true... Sometimes I'm seriously lazy and I'll show up late and make bank in very few hours. It just seems that things are so inconsistent sometimes, and while I want to work hard, sometimes I get caught up thinking about whether the night will be bad or good, whether I'm wasting my time by even trying, or if I'll make ridiculous money for just sitting with the right person. Does this stress anyone else out? Does anyone have a way of thinking about it that helps?

Yeah it can be stressful. Especially considering how many factors that influence your money which you have no control over like amount of girls working or amount of customers during your shift.

Sometimes the money is good but sometimes it sucks and it's hard not to get emotional when the money sucks especially when it's needed the most.

I just focus on things I can control like my appearance, my hustle skills, coming to work at a certain time, approaching customers and recommending VIP, spotting opportunities and standing up for myself if cutthroats interfere, etc

Plus on my off time it helps me to unwind and relax when I treat myself good like going to steam room, working out, eating quality food, and doing things that put me in a good mood.

i actually like to keep track of my earnings on my mac's calendar app. whenever i make money, i write in the amount i made that night on the calendar. after awhile, you start to notice trends. some examples of this might be that august was better than september, saturdays at club X are better than fridays, and i can average out my nightly/weekly/monthly earnings and schedule myself accordingly. then i can say to myself, "hey, tonight sucked and i only made X dollars, but i know that i make Y dollars on average so i won't worry so much." i would also mark nights that i spent with a regular client differently so that i know that X amount of dollars came from him, but without him i made Y. this gives a more objective view of the club's earning potential so that i can determine what i can really make if i had no regulars.

you can also note trends like a steady decline/increase in earnings, which can help you decide whether or not you want to try going to a new club/stay where you are.

Also for some reason I reach my max profit within 4-5 hours. I've never been able to work double shift and bank. Maybe because I get tired walking around all night or whatever. But I like to earn minimum x dollars per hour. I keep track in my head of how many dances/money I have every hour and if lets say 45min goes by I haven't sold any dance and club is looking dry money wise then it's time to leave so I don't lower my desired earning rate.

You're right working harder or longer doesn't always mean more money. Sometimes you have to work smarter and more efficiently.

I'm def on of those girls that shows up late & hopes to make my money in the end of the night versus sitting around in a dead club not making shit. Sometimes it works & sometimes I'm better off if I'd just shown up earlier. My current place doesn't usually pick up until 11 pm on fri & sat anyway. If I do end up sitting around bored all night, I'll lose my momentum for the night (which usually leads to me needing a drink or 2 to get through it)

This is what I do! Looking for trends and averages really helps.

I keep track of my earnings in a book and figured that I usually average the same per month when I keep the same schedule.

Other than that it would be like trying to figure out hourly wages when first two hours there is literally no one in the club, and then the same night it gets packed, someone rains $200 on my stage and after that someone buys 15 lap dances in a row.

It's pretty much magic on a small scale, lol

Even if you only make $100 in profit on a slow day, it's still $100 more than you had before. If you go into work more, you're more likely to cultivate regulars, build relationships with the bouncers, djs, bartenders who in turn can help you out when a big spender comes in. (I have made staff members who used to undercut me LOVE me and help me out thanks to slow days.)
Sometimes I'll go into work early and tell my husband "I'll come home after 7 hours or until I have $500 whichever comes first." Sometimes I'll make that $500 in a hour, or it might take me 10 hours but I don't go home until that money's in my hand. I also determine how many shifts I work by "If I don't make at least $x in 3 shifts then I'll work 4." It's not really working HARD but showing up and persevering along with practicing your sales skills and working on your personal brand. Practice makes perfect.

The harder I TRY to make money, the worse I do. It's all about the law of attraction with this job. If your energy is desperate and "trying hard", everyone can tell.

However, when I go in feeling good about myself, not giving a fuck about the money, sitting with whoever my gut instinct tells me to, dancing for my own pleasure (not trying to please the crowd), I always do well.

I noticed any club I let the managers "knuckle me under"...I didn't make money and was miserable.

I agree with NightGoddess, customers can tell whether you are happy or not at a club. Go somewhere you like and grow a garden there....in the stripping world you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I totally empathize Zooey. Are you still in room clubs in the same city?

The thing I hate about room clubs here is that I can either come home completely exhausted and sore with low to mid $$$'s in my pocket, or completely relaxed with $$$$'s. I've had to explain to my SO over and over that coming home sweaty and panting is actually a bad sign because it means I probably did 40 dances to make ~$500, but coming home looking fresh (and maybe a little buzzed) usually means I got to sit pretty in a room for hours and make great money. It's just insult on top of injury to hear, "You look like you worked hard! I bet you made so much money!"

If you keep a regular schedule, your fans will know when and where to find you. This business is more about consistency than it is about working harder.

Remember, this is a sales business. You need a contact list you can mine for times when business is slow. It takes a while to get there, but if you work at the same club consistently, have a decent social media campaign, a work phone number and send out regular text messages to your regular customers, your income can be quite predictable.

You don't have a job, you are running a business. Employees get paychecks. Businesses have customers. Change your mindset and you'll see more consistency in your earnings.

Technically we are still low in ranking compared to say the owner of the club we pay fee to work.

But I do agree with the general point is that we as independent contractors have the ability to create the income we want and can generally work when we want.

^no. Without us, the owner would be broke. We are the only thing keeping this industry alive, we could run the whole thing is we really wanted to. Strippers are business owners and the business is ourselves.

Well we all need each other. Buyers need sellers and sellers need buyers. It's just like professional sports. The owners are at the top.

If the owner said fire you tomorrow, then you're gone. Plus they make money off each dancers physical efforts without having to put in their own effort or show up to work. I'd rather be an owner than stripper any day.

It's really a gray area. Look at all the lawsuits of strip clubs getting sued because the confusion between strippers working as employees vs independent contractors.

I totally understand, this is a fickle business. Monday I made $500 in 3 hours and was out of the club by eleven. This Friday I made $500 but worked 6-2 and it felt like a struggle the whole night. It does stress me out, but it's important to go by weekly and even monthly earnings rather than nightly. Keeping regular clientele is important too, for those slow nights.

THIS. It's weird that my best nights are usually those I spend entirely clothed and drinking champagne all night haha. I think I'm going to try some clubs in this area that aren't quite so room-focused... It just seems that you can choose between typical room BS and a more lenient schedule, or otherwise deal with floor-focused clubs where mangers think they own your schedule.

I think part of it is my fault, since my work schedule has been pretty inconsistent these past few months. Thanks for the suggestions!

Had not thought of it this way before. The more I think about this, the more I like it.
