    Default I'm the New Manager!!!

    Hi ladies,

I was just brought on board as the manager of 2 strip clubs in my city (to start pt at both locations). I have been a dancer (at a different club) for 6 years and have a long list of customer service positions. I was also a high school teacher for several years. I have an old membership to this forum, but felt like switching accounts as I turn a new chapter in my adult industry career.

I am so excited to have this opportunity! I really enjoyed dancing and am grateful I have a good deal of experience to help me in my new position. I am also very proud to be break through the red tape as a Female manager. The clubs in my area generally do not have women as club managers (unless they are an owner, which is still rare). I really want to do a great job and show the patrons and industry workers that women can be uniquely successful in this leadership role.

That all being said, I am human, and I am so nervous! It's difficult to fake confidence in a new situation and environment, but I guess we all know that! I really need my SW ladies for some support. I plan on using this wonderful source, full of intelligent supportive women for constructive feedback for my ideas.

Do any of you ladies have any words of encouragement, advice, experiences, and/or thoughts for this fellow (scared shitless) dancer turned new Mamager?!!!

    Thank u in advance!!!

What qualities would you like to see in a female manager? Any specific ideas to help gain the respect of the dancers? Any pointers to help gain the respect of the male employees? Any stories of horrible manager qualities? Please keep in mind...while I have a loyalty w/ dancers and a duty to make the club the best environment for their financial and general well being...I also have a major responsibility to the club as a whole, all employees, and owners. I believe what is good for the club is good for the dancers, even though it might not always seem like that in every situation in realtime.

I've never had good experience with female management in the strip club. Perhaps you are different. All I can say is, have a strict set of rules that everyone knows and plays by and do not deviate from them.

Just don't be a jerk and don't play favorites, especially in ways that affect money (Ie, don't cut one girl a break on arriving past the cut-off time for a house fee, and then hold another girl to it)

I think the worst manager I had was just pissed off at the world and took it out on the dancers. If someone was getting fired, it often turned into a giant screaming match with security throwing her out. He would frequently chew girls out on the floor. So yeah, don't do that.

Renaissancelove, thank u for the advice (and everybody else). Set rules and set consequences for breaking them is really important for all employees. What, specifically, has it been in the bad experiences w/ female managers? Anything about their attitude? Rules? Did they act unprofessionally (patronizing w/ male employees, forming a clique w/ certain dancers, drinking on the job)? Or something more subtle?

Yes the thing I notice most with female managers who become managers is that everything is fair until after a few months. Then it seems like their brain has switched from how the girls make money to how the club makes money, Implementing more rules so that the club would be more profitable jacking up tip out. As someone that used to dance it should be easily understood that if the girls and not making money and then you start to pile on extra rules as well because the bar isnt making money then no one is going to want to stay. XD They almost always form cliques as well.

One of the biggest problems I've exp'd from mgrs is that they don't LISTEN to the girls. That doesn't mean 'agree every time' or 'give the dancers everything they want' -- I mean the way that decisions are made w/ no input from or respect for the concerns of the dancers, who are really the ones 'in the trenches'.

Yes, sm girls are whack & don't see anything beyond their own needs -- but if there are consistent complaints abt tipout policies, or a dj that's a prima donna & thinks his music choices should trump the dancers, or complaints abt cutthroat behaviour from dancers or sleazy/abusive behaviour from customers/staff, etc -- can't tell you how many times Īve been told 'Well, I didn't see it, so tough' or 'That's not my problem, you & So-n-So need to work it out yourselves' or 'Well, it's Mgr X's decision, so I can't/won't do anything'.

Basically, listen to the dancers' perspective. Don't just blow them off bc that's the easier thing to do. Be willing to work w/ them & they will generally be more respectful & trusting of how you handle things.

Also don't feed into drama. I worked at a club where the female manager would actually help "her" favorite girls harrass other girls that she didn't like. Come on, it's a nightclub, not a hen house.

& Definitely interact with the customers in a positive way. They are more than willing to give you a heads up about other customers who need to be thrown out, or willing to give good word of mouth referrals for the club. Not ALL of the strip club customers are Sweatpants Boner Man.

Don't play favorites. Be fair with club fees, and offer incentives for girls that always come on time/come in early. KEEP YOUR GIRLS HOT AND DRUG FREE--draws in better clientele, and decreases the risks of LE raids/extras girls. Keep safety in mind. If you have a VIP lounge, make sure someone is ALWAYS nearby--keeps us safe and more comfortable selling them. And if your girls claim that a certain customer is being creepy/rapey, STAND UP FOR HER, ALWAYS. Or I can promise you, you will kiss (good) business goodbye.

That being said, congrats! The fact that you are even asking for advice is admirable, and an indication that you will do well.

Pro Tip- many clubs post signs in the back/dressing room stating that the club complies with the local Police and all drug searches. This will help a lot....

We need more female managers/owners! Women should own this industry, not men.

The fact that you are a former stripper will make you a good manager. Just don't forget your roots. Be nice to the dancers, but don't be a doormat either. It's a delicate balance. Most of all, be confident!

    Congrats! <3

Although, I am new, and still a waitress at the club I am working at,but maybe my input can be useful.

Try to be kind, but assertive.Be Fair to everyone. And be patient. I am sure with you being a school teacher having patience is key, and you have to realize that every dancer is different. So you have to approach them, and talk to them differently, but treat them equally as if they are the same.

My favorite manager (& the only one I loved) ever was the perfect balance. He was respectable and nice to all of the normal girls, except the trouble makers. If he had to warn a girl more than once in a night, he'd send her home. Depending on the extent of things, he would even suspend someone for a couple of days or fire on the spot. Whatever he did, made the work environment pleasant to work in. He didn't play that shit.

My advice, don't be afraid to be strict and put someone in their place if they don't follow club rules or disrespect another dancer. I hate being around crazies, & I can't stand managers with NO balls. Also, like it's been mentioned here...no favoritism please. Have hiring standards, it attracts better clientele. Don't allow sketchy to happen itc, sex and molly slipping in the drinks.

Good luck to you. I can't imagine handling a bunch of girls being easy.

Congradulations mamager! I would just be careful who you get too close too, because it can be risky, because many others will want your spot.
