Default how often do you wash your hair extensions?

I wear in clip in extensions pretty much everyday and probably style them a few times a week. When I first started wearing clip ins my stylist told me I should go as long as possible without washing them because they have a protective sealant on them that washing will destroy. So I've gone quite a while without washing them, but it's kind of gross to me.

I'm curious if anyone washes them 2-3 times a week and has noticed that they degrade faster? I'm curious what the best thing to do for them is. I just bought a really nice set of extensions that I love and won't be able to buy again until I return to the USA, so I want these to last as long as possible.

I wear clip in extensions. Washing them that much would kill them and I wear nice ones. It grosses me out to not wash them too but I go as long as possible (like a month or longer) without washing them. I feel like after I wash them once or twice there trashed and I need a new pair. And I'm careful with them and use nice products. I just got a new pair and I don't plan on washing them. I lay them flat every night to avoid having to re straighten them too. So pretty much yeah I think washing them that much would ruin them in my opinion.

I co-wash them exclusively when they feel ratty or grimy, or when they smell bad enough that adding more product doesn't help (smoking is allowed in most private rooms where I am). That can be a really long time. It does make a difference though, I've been able to stretch some out for years this way. When I washed them a lot I'd buy a few pairs a year. Occasional trims can also prolong things.

OK, I normally wash them every 2-3 months but was worried that would make me sound totally disgusting!

The only time I feel like they need to be washed is when they're so heavy with product (usually hair spray) that I can't style them properly. I'm wondering if dry shampoo would be a solution or it'll strip them just as much as a normal wash?

I just got these beautiful body wave ones but the wave gets destroyed anytime I properly curl them so I feel like I'm gonna have to keep washing them to get them back in the S shape.

dry shampoo would probably cause build up and leave dandruff-like dust on your shoulders. or maybe i've just used bad dry shampoos.

I wash my clip ins like.. once a month if that lol. I only wash if I can feel the build up or they start smelling like just old extensions. I only really wear my hair straight so I don't put product in, just a light mist of hair spray and only sometimes. and I only wear mine 1-2x a week.

Also I just got my foxylocks extensions 2 weeks ago and I loooove them! I got the deluxe ones and they're thick and awesome. I suggest anyone looking for extensions to check them out

When I was wearing clip ins regularly I would only condition them every so often. Probably like once every few weeks. I gently condition them in a pot of water, put some product in them, and let them air dry overnight and the next day they were nice and soft. I had to condition them or else they started feeling ratty and dry. You just have to be really gentle with them especially when they're wet so they don't lose too many hairs and get too thin.

I wash mine about once every two weeks. I don't scrub them but I dip them repeatedly in lukewarm water mixed with shampoo and then I leave them soaking in conditioner for about an hour and dip them in water again until all the conditioner is out. I put moroccan oil in them (trim the edges to one length if they are getting uneven) afterwards I blow dry them straight with a round brush. I don't need to heat straighten again until the next wash and I have another set to keep curly. I curl those after washing and don't heat style until another wash. For myself putting the oil in is what makes the biggest difference. If I don't add oil they get matted as soon as I put them in. Also heat styling as little as possible helps me to keep the ends from breaking off. Since I've been washing and taking care of my extensions this way they've been lasting soooo much longer. Also every 2nd or 3rd day after brushing them out at the end of the day I put a bit of oil in and leave them lying flat and straight while I'm sleeping.

I don't think dry shampoo is a good idea. Dry shampoo soaks up oil from your scalp, but extensions don't get much of that, they just get the product you put on them. A surfactant-free (surfactants in shampoo would undo the sealant) gentle conditioner/detangler as a co-wash should keep them shiny and fresh.

Every 5 days. Mine only last about 20 wears and I have 5 more days to work and my new ones didn't come in before I left. I hope to hell I can get another 5 days out of them.

I have to wash them this week as they're nasty right now, I got caught in the rain at work and it made them super greasy. Going to try just washing them in conditioner tomorrow and see how it goes.

2-3 months after purchase, then it goes straight to a trash bin.
