Dizzy Fractured Knee and returning to work

Hey Y'all! It's my first post!

So I fractured my knee last year and it's finally showed up as healed on the MRI. The pain is not like it was but sometimes it still flares up. The worst part about dancing on it before (I had not gotten attention for the injury for about 2 months..so I continued dancing on a fractured knee like a dummy) ..was where the water on the knee had occurred and i could not put any pressure on my knee so both the stage and even giving a dance was impossible. So I was fucked all around and couldn't even sit off stage to sell dances, not to mention I went back to work on it again using a cane and although I earned lots of "respect" from the customers, none of them wanted a dance from the crippled girl and respect doesn't pay my rent. So here I am a year later, and I'm scheduled to start back this week. I'm nervous about messing it up again and being out of work even longer or back in pain and non-functioning which is even worse. I have gotten permission to work every other day at first so that i don't do any back to back days because I am worried that would be too much to start with. Aside from that though, do you have any advice about returning to work after a knee fracture? What should I do and what should I definitely avoid? Any advice or experience would be so appreciated. Thanks! btw the fracture was on the inner facing joint of the right knee..exactly where the knee bends and that's why it took so long to heal...I also believe that I had some tears or nerve damage because about 3 inches on the front of my knee is completely numb and has been since i injured it.

Could you possibly wear Tommie Copper under stockings or boots?

Does your doctor know you dance? I really recommend talking to them specifically about what you can and can't do. None of us are familiar with your body and your injury, so you really shouldn't be basing your return on our advice. You really have to take care of your knee, especially as a dancer, or else you could very easily mess it up again as you're worried about.

2nd'ing Shanna's advice to talk to your dr or surgeon b4 returning to work. Fk what they may or may not think abt sex workers, & if their personal hangups start colouring the discussion, get a copy of your records & find another dr to discuss this w/ who can be professional & honest. You've only got two knees love, & I'm betting you're still way too young to want to be courting a knee replacement.

Thanks for the replies so far, I have already been to several different Dr's and specialists regarding my knee, unfortunately I live in a very small town and the Dr's here are no good for anything, really. The first surgeon told me to go back to work before even getting the results for my mri---which i should have done and then sued his ass for bein a jerk---but aside from that they don't care about if it's going to get messed up again since that would make them more money. I'm being honest! When I declined surgery and opted to heal naturally with time, acupuncture and my chiropractor..the surgeons/dr's would not help me further. They were honestly only looking for the $$$ on my injury not about my actual health. So I won't get an opinion worth too much from any of them. That's why I'm asking..I was hoping that some other dancers might have experience with knee injuries as well and some personal experience about returning to work from one. I can wear the brace/tommie copper with over the knee socks no problem i believe..so thanks for that tip! Anyone have any personal experience with returning to the club from injuries?

^Well, take it as easy as you can then. Avoid floorwork, especially moves that put pressure on your knee. It might be wise to just skip stage altogether if possible, though that's not feasible in all clubs. Be careful about putting all your weight on your knees while giving dances too. Maybe even consider taking your shoes off during dances and whenever else you can (if you're just sitting around when it's quiet, for example) to minimize the stress they put on your knees. I actually worked with a dancer who wore flats when she first came back after a knee injury, so that's an option too depending on your club and pain levels as you go.

If you're wanting to stay in adult work for the moment, rather than picking up a vanilla job that would be physically easier on your body -- can you cam, at least until you can find a decent dr to take your needs seriously? Unless you're working in an air dance club that would let you skip/minimalise stage sets, I really think you're setting yourself up for a serious risk of causing further dmg. You mentioned the numbness in the knee -- as you know, just bc you don't feel pain, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong.

If you've been taking it easy to let it heal, then the musculature and ligaments will be weaker and you are at risk of a more severe injury. I'm all for natural healing and everything but you probably need a sports medicine Dr to weigh in on your knee. Especially since dancing can put such a strain on your knees.

Speaking from experience here. My daughter has VERY strong legs as a semi-professional horseback rider, the problem is it builds the muscles un-evenly and causes stress on other areas of the knee. She HAS to do special exercises to prevent stressing her knees and starting another very painful recovery cycle.

You probably need to run a cousrse of physical therapy before going back to dancing.

^ Yes, see a physical therapist. We can all give you well-meaning advice from our experience, but you really need to consult with an actual medical professional about this. I see the local doctors all suck, is there a city with more options near by? Possibly even a personal trainer at a gym would be able to give you pointers on how to dance with the least stress possible to your knee.

That said, I'm actually working through my own leg injury, although mine is just muscle not bone. I don't go on stage, I work shorter shifts, I have really toned down my lapdances so that I'm basically only cuddling my customers, and I'm taking ibuprofen and using a hot water bottle on the affected area after my shift.

Be really careful! Knees are very delicate.

I didn't read the whole thread sorry. But I just had surgery for a broken radial distus. They put a volar plate in. This was about 8 weeks ago ish. I went on one work trip at 4 weeks and worked 8 shifts, fast forward and I'm on one now and have worked 5 shifts and it is really hurting me. Not sure because when i saw him 3 weeks ago he said I could go back to normal activities. The incision was killing me this morning. I would suggest resting as much as you can. You use your leg more.
