    Default I h*te the dj

I had a customer wanting a private dance but the dj was calling my name for stage. I asked dj if he could give me some time and I'll go on stage after I sell these dances.

Well this f*cker tells me no he needs me to dance on stage now.

Im pissed because when I get on stage nobody was tipping and to make things worse someone hustled him for a dance by time I get I last stage dance I look over and see he's gone.

it makes no sense to me to be forced to get on stage when I have closed a VIP sale and I could lose money going on stage.

How is hard is it to call the next dancer in line? it was so many dancers last night to chose from but he kept calling me on stage. Which I'm starting to hate now because dudes stay staring but don't tip making it a waste of time and energy. On weekends especially club should encourage and remind them to tip on stage and quit freeloading.

Next time I'm ignoring his a$$. And chosing VIP over stage.

I comlained to to the manager but he act like h couldn't understand why I was upset. Saying that it was so much money in the club that I should be able to make it up. Which it wasn't. I heard a few girls saying they weren't making money and customers complaining about how dead the club was.

Have you sold a private dance at the same time you had to go on stage? Which did you chose to do? Do you get in trouble going to the back for VIP if dj is calling you to get on stage?

Technically they are not supposed to skip us, but as long as you tip at least $10, our DJs do skip girls who are in VIP. The DJ I'm friends with will actually skip me if he sees me closing on a known big spender. It makes sense for them to skip us so we can make more money and potentially tip them more.

I don't know what to tell you though, seeing as the manager didn't care. Maybe next time offer him a few bucks to take you off.

Does he not have a set rotation of girls? He should not be repeatedly calling you on stage...

Well, right off the bat, it sounds like an f'd up place..which a lot of places are..& it sounds like they don't care..eh, dj's. I've had to go onstage multiple x's cause other dancers had vip's. This's been awhile, so maybe they've changed? Sounds messed up, you have to tip this jerk I assume? Yea, I'd ignore next time

You're right maybe my fault for not thinking to give him an extra tip to see if that would change his mind. We are forced to tip dj every shift so giving him money for this request would be extra.

They let us skip stage if we're already in the back in VIP but if he sees us on the main floor then I guess he assumes we're available for stage.

At my club, DJs aren't supposed to ever skip -- even if you're already dancing with a customer and there are plenty of other dancer just sitting at the bar doing nothing. Most of them are willing to skip dancers that don't cause them trouble if they slide a tip over with the request though. However, even they usually won't skip someone after having called them to the stage, unless they're feeling particularly kind and/or if you've asked the next dancer in the rotation if she's willing to go up now. It's annoying for sure, especially since stage isn't a source of income for us (it's beyond rare for people to stage tip around here), but since I know how our system works, I do my best to make it work. I keep an eye on the rotation so I know when I'm coming up. Then I can either make sure I either close the sale far enough in advance that I have time to tip the DJ to skip me, or I know NOT to close the sale just yet and leave my drink with the customer so no one will approach him. I'll usually throw in a cutesy line about getting warmed up for him to pre-close.

Next time that happens, just tell him you're on your way to VIP now and you're waiting for him to close the bar tab.

He shouldn't give you shit over that.

I've never had a DJ skip me unless the club was getting a cut. When I've worked in commission clubs I've gone entire nights without doing one stage because I kept selling dances. In London unfortunately the clubs only get commission on VIPs so that's the only time they'll skip you.

If this is a constant problem, i.e. he's routinely calling you on stage when you are about to make a sale, it sounds like you've done something to piss him off-- if he you haven't I would have a talk with him, since that's something all the DJs I've worked with do to girls they don't like. Otherwise learn the rotation and sell the dance before they get to you-- at all the clubs I've worked at I know the first few girls before me and once we're down to one before my sale pitch goes into high gear. I've never had a club stop me mid-dance and say I have to go onstage.

Psh if I close a sale at the same time the dj calls me, I go to do my dances and get my $$. No asking permission!!! As long as you're tipping him let him figure that shit out. He sounds like an idiot...In fact if a dj interfered with my money like that--no tip for him!! If I make a lot of money I always tip the djs a little extra so it's in their best interest for me to sell dances and rooms.

^ YES! This!!! For me if I hear him call my name I will pull the guy into the room to appear as if I'm doing the dance already so he'll skip me entirely that way I can keep working the guy for a VIP. I ignore them & of course if my mngr is there i'll get in trouble for it but hey, tough! That's how we make our $$$, they can deal

I mean, if you didn't even offer him a tip to skip you, I don't see why he would skip you. What is he going to get out of it, he might get in trouble for skipping you, at least make it worth his while.

i try to pay attention to where i'm at in the rotation and if i know i'm coming up and also about to close, i'll go to the dj, tip, and make sure he'll skip me. but this is already on top of being a good dj tipper, friendly, willing to go onstage if i am free, etc. did something happen between you two that would make him unwilling to skip you?

Also kinda depends on timing... the latest we can expect to be skipped due to VIP dances is during the song before our set, so that he can switch another girl to standby. If he is calling us RIGHT NOW for the song that's starting as soon as he stops talking, no way no how are we getting skipped.

I've only been skipped in the second scenario once and it was because we had 3 girls on, hardly any customers, and the DJ recognized the need for us to entertain the customers with dances.... especially since A) none of us were making money to tip him with, and B) he was playing break songs anyway so he could easily say "Next is Qui- oh wait, never mind, another break song!"

Most clubs with VIP rooms prioritize rooms over stage performance because they make money off of room sales and nothing from the dancer's stage tips. Even if you are the only girl in the place, if you've sold a room, the club should give the customer buying a room priority. Perhaps the dj was looking for a tip to make it happen? Do the other girls tip him to skip stage? Maybe ask the house mom what could have happened here.

I don't even pay attention to stage rotation, really. I know the girl before/after, and sometimes 2 before me but that's it. When you go in back, the bouncer lets the DJ know so they can skip you, and then lets him know when you're out. Girls will go back there to do coke and will be off stage for like 3 hours straight. No fee or anything, but my friend's club a mile away charges $10 per skipped stage set. She tries getting guys to pay the skip fee on top of the dance. I feel like it'd be stressful that way... I use VIP as a way to avoid stage. "Why let everyone else see me when you can have me all to yourself?"

Its $50 to skip a set at my club and that is standard in Melbourne. Girls will swap with each other or do a stage as a favour. I guess that the best idea is to be mindful of when your stage is coming up in case you need to arrange to swap.

Not to play devils advocate but it is probably just as frustrating for girls who find their set suddenly the next one up when another dancer convinces the DJ to swap them, especially without much notice. I worked in a club where this would happen and it made it very hard to plan my dances and extend, close sales and arrange a booking with the host, when suddenly the 2 girls before me are booked and I have to be onstage in less than 30sec.

There have prob been times when you have closed a great sale and swapped your stage and ruined the opportunity of another dancer (don't fleece me its pretty likely). That said......

if its only happening once every now and again then I think its better to just let it go. If it happens regularly then consider whether the DJ may have an issue with you (as another poster suggested). Or finally, whther its a club procedure which needs to be addressed- in which case get a couple of other dancers to back you if you don't have political power w Management. If management wont change things then i guess you need to make a choice from there.

Thanks a bunch! You all have super helpful input.

I think the dj has his own little system on how he does stage rotation. Multiple girls on stage at once and I believe he tries to coordinate dancers on their style of music and I think he preloads songs. So only way I know when I'm up is when he calls my name like x songs away. And sometimes it's hard to hear over the music.

I admit I have ignored the dj calling me up in 1-2 songs away in favor of a vip cause I figured if they want this payout money and dudes aren't tipping on stage then they shouldn't complain. I'd always tell the bouncer to notify the dj when I'm going in vip. And I didnt think it would be that hard to call the next dancer in line. But I guess if he has some elaborate rotation system and I'm messing it up doing this then I should have given him a cut of my vip money since a cut of our vip money only goes to the house.

Psh I still just try & hide from the dj so he won't call me up. Stage is such a waste of our time! The vip is totally where our $$$ is at. However though, at my current shit hole stage tipping is almost non existent anyways & we aren't even allowed to play anything other than the shitty top 40 hip hop crap. I'll do anything to skip that shit anyday! I don't even think our dj deserves a tip from us bc he's lazy & never switches up the songs.

I try to skip stage too especially when it gets too crowded. I'll get really pushy for guys to go in vip

^ We just couldn't do that in Aus. If I skipped all my stages I would be paying minimum $350 by the end of the night. There are no excuses for missing it.

Well I actually have the goal of being or staying in VIP as long and as often as possible. It's hard to skip stage cause no matter how dark it is or where you try to hide out the dj knows your not in vip and will call you on stage.

The club I work used to be crackin and it used to be possible to make at least $40 on stage so back then it was worth it to get on stage especially after I had made my rounds and hadn't sold a dance. But now its lame.

The night I'm referring to I made a whopping $5 on stage on a weekend night!?!? When I could have made $60+ And I was pissed case I left with barely any money that night.

I have no problem doing my mandatory 2-3 stage shows per night and I am also willing to go up on stage AFTER I get out vip if I have somehow f*cked up rotation. but with over 30+ girls on the weekend there is no reason I should go up more than that. Especially if they expect me to pay their ridiculously high house fee and tips.

DJs that "go by the list" are lazy employees that don't deserve my tip.

Being flexible and doing favors for girls is what makes a good DJ. Can't go up right now? Ok! Want to go up sooner? OK! (Within reason of course, don't go up twice an hour every hour on a Friday night. Don't ask to be skipped every time you are called to stage) Follow up with a nice tip, and everyone is happy.

WTF! I would be PISSED if a DJ did that to me! He made you lose money. And that is really stupid how some clubs dont allow dancers to skip stage sets when they manage to score a VIP dance. In my club, the second someone makes a VIP, they automatically call up the next dancer in line to cover the one who got the VIP. Because thats where the big $$$ is made, for both the dancer and the club! Not only did you lose out on money, so did your club. VIPs should always be put before stage dancing! Even though you said your club makes you tip the DJ, I wouldnt have tipped him. Whenever someone makes me lose money, I make it a point not to tip.
