I recently started dancing, because I have Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition which causes pain and discomfort in the back, neck, shoulders, hands and joints. This makes it difficult for me to do simple things like sitting in a chair for an extended period of time, bending over, lifting objects, and other essential tasks relating to a normal 9-5 job.
I first discovered pole dancing because I heard that it was good exercise for someone with Fibro, so I took a pole class and fell in love. It is the only exercise I've found that doesn't hurt my back! Working a full shift can still be exhausting, so I'm limiting myself to three shifts a week in order to spend the other four days recovering. Still making enough to support myself and save for school though, which I never would have thought possible!
For those of you with chronic illnesses, how do you do it? What are some tricks that you've learned to keep yourself healthy while working?

Does dancing ever make the dizziness worse? I'd be afraid of falling off stage (which I've almost done without all that).
But on the other hand, you need to be sure that your self esteem is tough enough to deal with the rest of it. Every day you work, you will hear people making rude/vulgar/hurtful remarks at you. You will have men trying to convince you to do things you don't want to do, and you need to be able to say "no" very confidently without feeling vulnerable.
