Default How do you beat the travelers blues?

I don't work my local market. A lot better money elsewhere, but I'm starting to miss my friends and home. Getting lonely for sure. I want to head home but also want to make more money before i head back.

For the traveling ladies, do you guys ever start feeling a but lonely when you're on the road? Anything you do that helps?

Hi HoneyR - I don't actually have a 'home' so I don't have the experience of missing family as I don't have one. This over the years has made me resourceful and independent and part of my lifestyle. This does not mean I am a friendless homeless vagabond! I have houses I own but I choose to rent them out and be free to live my life and travel and do what I like. I've just discoverd web camming so this will excpand my horizons even further now. I've found that wherever I go I can have 'friends'. Its interesting when one moves on that these 'friends' dont keep contact if you are not in the same state or country. Blessing of being in new places is the 'confessions of strangers'. I've found people to be more open and honest when they dont have a background or history with someone or worries about managing a relationship.
Now to clarify I dont mix personal and work, so I'm not sure if this answer will help or is on the right track. So no I never feel lonely as I always meet great people when I'm travelling so don't have time to feel lonely in fact. And lucky for my personality type not having family has been a blessing for me personally

Thank you, I don't really have family in terms of blood family. Just ppl I've become close with and a sense of familiarity of home. As time goes on I become fine with being gone for longer periods of time.

I find home is wherever. Its a state of mind thing. Im at 'home' wherever I am. And we all change and grow and move on so relationships and circles change irregardless of whether you are in one spot all the time or making the world your home.

I often travel for vanilla work as well as sex work, and being on the road all the time is a thrill, but can be difficult too.

When I start missing home I skype with my closest family and friends and look for things that remind me of home, like places that sell poutine (I'm Canadian! haha), bookstores (they've always been a safe haven for me) or simply things that make me happy and comfortable, like movie theatres, or manicures. Or I distract myself by really buckling down and working. Even if I'm not with clients all the time, I work on marketing, taking new pictures or making new videos, etc.

I hope that helps! Take care.

Do you mind me asking do you stay in hotels when you travel or do you rent an apartment or something? I think it might be righ the hotels i get tired of.

AirBnB or Homestay are both cheap and flexible options. With homestay i get to meet locals in the country I am in and have a family around me. When I get sick of that I stay in an airbnb place that gets around the dramas of real estate agents crap

Are you traveling for escorting? I never traveled for more than a few days. I found it was easier to get bookings when I was only there for a short time, it made me more in demand. And the hotels start to get suspicious. I never really got lonely after just a few days.

I usually stay in hotels when I travel.

If you're not expecting "company", you can save money and get a change of scenery/break from hotels by using AirBNB (as someone else already mentioned) or housesitting (staying at someone's house for free while they are away in exchange for watering plants, caring for pets, bringing in mail, etc).

Check out local things to see or go to parks.

I would catch up on tons of TV/movies when I stayed in hotels- comically I didn't have cable TV as a kid so I enjoyed a chance to see random old movies I'd heard of on basic cable at a motel. Weird thing to be dazzled by but now I can say I've seen "Big Trouble In Little Tokyo."

Also- hit the gym in the hotel! many high end hotels have awesome workout rooms and hot tubs.

This is really good advice. When I used to travel a lot, just getting away from the "tourist areas" helped a bunch. I would go to the library (I like books) or find a neighborhood park to wander around in for awhile. A coffee shop that isn't Starbucks is a good thing too. Anything that got me outside and out of traveler mode helped a lot.

Good luck! Being on the road is hard even when it's going well.

I'm in a library now. Using free wifi, studying, surfing etc. I live alone and not currently working 9-5 so it breaks up the boredom and keeps my data plan down before I jump on a plane in the next few days. I find in Europe people are pretty gregarious and I can make friendships easily, and Turkey is the best - people so lovely and friendly and kill you with kindness. Australia is a bit of a cold culture so people tend to look at you like a weirdo if you chat to them like in Europe. I don't know how America is so can't comment.

Find the best local coffeehouse the first day and become a regular during your stay.

I love this thread I too am gearing up to travel dance real soon for spring/summer. I get lonely sometimes but after a few days of getting a routine down again, I'm fine & don't need ppl around. I'm about to start living in motels by the week so I can up & leave when it's time to travel instead of feeling "tied down" with any sort of lease. I actually love the vagabond lifestyle. It's def not for everybody BUT there are numerous ways that once can make it more comfortable & more "homelike" by making acquaintences in various places & going to coffee shops & even the local cool hangout spots.
