Default Should you try working even if you're feeling under the weather?

I just started dancing at a local club about a week ago, but then I caught a small cold. I've been sick for about a week, but I am DYING to get back to work. I don't want management to think I bailed on them or something - it's just bad timing.

As of right now, I only have a slight cough and itchy throat and maybe a runny nose, would it even be worth it to go back to work before I'm 100% better? Or would it be better to wait until I'm healthy again?

Of course, I don't want to get the other girls sick, but I hate sitting at home and not making any money.

Any words or wisdom or personal experiences would be much appreciated right now, ladies. Thank you!

Maybe if you get on antibiotics and if you don't have a fever.

Be diligent about washing your hands particularly after blowing your nose.

I know exactly what you mean though I lost about a weeks worth of money when I got sick around Christmas time. I went back at about 75% health and end up getting worse from all the smoke and lost my voice then had to take another few days off.

If you are sensitive to smoke it could make your cold worse.

It would definitely be better for you to be 100% but if you really need the money, then perhaps you should go in. It really depends on how you feel and how sick you really are. Are you going to be wiping your nose, coughing, and sneezing everywhere and on everyone? If you just feel a bit under the weather, take some cold medicine, drink tea, and go make that money!

Also don't go on antibiotics if you have a cold. Colds are caused by viruses and antibiotics treat bacteria. More people die from antibiotic resistance than AIDS in the US. It's a very big deal that people take antibiotics when they don't need them because it's leading to several strains of "super bugs" that aren't killed by antibiotics.

I actually just took the past two weekends off because I'm sick. The first weekend I was too sick to get out of bed, the next weekend I was feeling better but decided it was best to avoid potentially infecting my co-workers and dozens of dudes, and possibly slowing down my own recovery. Just stay home, drink some orange juice, and return when you've had time to regain your equilibrium. Can you call or text management to let them know what's up?

And if you hate sitting around the house being idle ... take this time as an opportunity to read Hustle Hut and give yourself a manicure or something. Then when you do go back, you'll feel better than before.

No! Stay your sick, snotty, coughing self home! I do. It's very inconsiderate to expose everyone else. Even vanilla workplaces tell you to stay home.

We have all been guilty of it, but realistically you will pass it on to someone and they will pass it on to others and it will go around and around. Plus, working will slow down your recovery. Try taking Active Elements 7.1 at the first sign of a cold-it won't develop (my secret weapon ).

Don't ask me, I'm calling in sick every other week. I almost think I have to start forcing myself to work even if sick just to keep myself responsible

It depends on if you're contagious or not. If it's not something contagious and you feel like you can muscle through it then that's fine.

    ^This!

A girl came to work not long ago with conjunctivitis and another worked with glandular fever-ekk (whether they were still contagious or not, I don't know).

First, as already stated, stay off the antibiotics. If you're not dealing w/ a bacterial infection, antibiotics will do no good but can lead to antibiotic resistance & problems later on if you do contract a bacterial infection.

Second, SCs are dirty places, & you're working in very close proximity to ALOT of ppl who you don't know where they've been. You would be risking not only infecting them, but as your own immune system is working overtime at the moment trying to fight your current infection you may be a lot more susceptible to other germs they are carrying. Also, if your mgmt insists on keeping the club thermostat turned down to the 'Walk-In Freezer' setting, your body will be struggling more than normal to keep your temperature regulated.

I've worked a few occasions when I was sick, & learnt pretty quickly that it wasn't worth it. I was increasingly stressed bc I didn't want to infect coworkers or customers (well, maybe there was 'one' customer I wouldn't have felt bad abt infecting) & at one club they kept the temperature freezing (mgmt running around in sweatshirts but telling the dancers to get over themselves), which just exacerbated the physical discomfort. Stay home, your body & your coworkers will thank you for it.

Stay home. Mostly because other girls will either rat you out for coming in while sick OR hold a grudge & mention your illness whenever they get the sniffles.

Also the SC environment isn't good for people who are feeling ill, it's dirty in there and loud and smelly. Better to come in when you feel well.

I worked in a dive and there were fines for calling out. I got a big hug from the bartender for showing up when I was loopy with bronchitis. I'm not saying it's the right choice or even recommended, but if you need to pay for missing your shift, go in and hope some custy has a fetish for coughing strippers.

Yeah apparently at an old club I used to work at, there was some sort of MRSA outbreak and girls who had it were still working. Gross. Imagine being mostly-naked in a vip both where someone with an active MRSA sore was on before you... I stopped working there for a long time after that happened.

    Thank you all so much!

I decided to stay home, especially after reading all your advice. It took two freaking weeks, but I finally had my first night back last night and it went really well. Really glad I stayed home to heal as opposed to pushing myself and risking everything getting worse.

    Thanks again!
