Question Do most clubs do this?

How many clubs have you guys ever worked at where they keep the tip that the customer leaves on the credit card receipt for you? My club has done this to me & a few others there several times. Each time i get a vip I always tell the guy to not tip me on the receipt bc the club will keep it for themselves & I won't see a dime of it

Also, how many clubs seem to start up this new "tipping the host" in an envelope the end of the night BS? Basically this club I work at started this whole thing that was never written in our IC about tipping anyone out esp the 1 host we have on certain nights.... I personally have never participated in tipping the host until I did well last night & I was the last one to pay out. I only gave $5 but still.. the mngr put it on the table in front of me & said "here's for the host". I think it's a desperate attempt for the staff to try & take most of our money, what do you guys think? Ugh the staff does absolutley NOTHING & still demand that we tip them. Isn't that illegal?

I've worked briefly at one club that had the 'leave a tip on the CC receipt' thing, but they were upfront w/ me that the written tip was meant to go to the club. So it was pretty much on me to notify the customer that if they wanted to tip me on top of the room rate, they needed to do so in cash rather than including it on the receipt.

I think the 'tip envelope' is bollocks on the one hand, but I can see where a club would do their tipout that way just as a way of making sure every1 got hit-up for a mandatory tipout. More of a convenience than outright trying to fleece you harder. My problem w/ that approach is that I much prefer giving the tip directly to the person I want/need to receive it, bc IME the vast majority of SC tip collectors can't be trusted not to pocket some/all of the $$$ then tell the intended recipent that I stiffed them.

Yup yup definitely a California thing. Management will come up with all sorts of bullshit on why I should tip people who don't do SHIT for me (and don't even know my name!), yet are paid an hourly wage. Thankfully I do well so sparing a couple of bucks isn't a big deal, it's just the principle behind it.

I've always thought that's the shittiest thing clubs in USA do to their dancers. On the other hand, at least you can ask the customer for tips too, to mitagate those costs. It's uncommon, can be frowned upon, and sometimes outright banned to ask customers for tips after a dance here.

When i did the SuperStripper course the tax section mentioned tax breaks on mandatory fee/tipout. Maybe an American who did the same course will chime in, I can't remember the particulars.

I thought tipping the VIP host was standard practice in the industry? I would inform my customer that the host needs to be tipped, and he would not make an issue of it. When I got to Vegas I needed to make money ASAP, so I told the VIP host I would split any rooms he brings me 50/50. This worked really well as I was learning how to work the club. Once I had my hustle down, I was beating the host to my customers.

This is the deal in Manhattan too. A good host will tell the customer the tip on the receipt goes to them and not me, but not all of them do. You have to be really political in your relationships with hosts in clubs like this, and also tip them on top of the tip the customer already left for them, unfortunately. 10% is standard here if they didn't hook you up with a whale, maybe 20% if they did.

The thing I hate the most about this system is that tipping dancers with a credit card requires another trip and receipt. If it takes a long time and the customer is drunk, sometimes they're like 'Fuck it, here's $50 in my pocket.' Great 10% tip on an hour room buddy. but better than nothing.

I worked at a club that did that! The tip-snatching thing. As soon as I figured that out, I always told customers that that tip was for the bartender, and if they wanted to tip me, they would need to put it in my hand.

California is ridiculous! This place also took 70% of your earnings -- 40% in dance fees and 30% in tip-out. House fees could push it up to 75-80%. Needless to say, I didn't stick around.

I always tell customers that the gratuity on the receipt goes to the host, mine is at the end. Tell them minimum host tip is 20%, if not those damn hosts will be on your shit about why they tipped so shitty. Mean while these hosts make like almost half a mil a year. *eye roll* I fkn hate hustling for their damn tips.

Well just to clear this up a little more about the tipping host thing at my club; the problem is they don't ever help anyone get vips or direct a customer to anyone of us. My club is super clean & it's pretty much every man for himself in that place. I wouldn't have an issue tipping them IF they actually earned it. By just standing around all night doing NOTHING, I'm sorry but I'm not giving out a fucking dime to anyone. I find my own clients every night & utilize my own hustle w/out anyone's help.

Ugh, if CA clubs are like Manhattan clubs as far as host politics goes, there's a couple options.

#1 (If you're not necessarily a totally clean dancer -- I know some don't feel comfortable admitting otherwise, but just sayin in general): Tell the dude the host gets all the tips, and tell them to do like 20%. Some miserly dudes balk at the 20% recommendation, so hustling them to tip the host when you also have to tip them can seriously cut into your money. If you are great at finding your own customers and keeping them in rooms yourself with no help, you can get away with tipping the host a small amount. So basically, if you're a clean, driven, room hustler, you should be able to get away with this approach. But if you're dirty, tip 20% on top of the guy's 20%.

#2: If you are a clean dancer, don't emphasize the customers tip too much, just suggest 10% or whatever, then tip 10% of what the host knows you got. Cash tips are secret. But if the host hooks you up, 15-20% is good for facilitating a symbiotic relationship. But if you're clean and the host does nothing for you, you can get away with a miserly tip.

I hope no one assumes I'm dirty here; I just have worked with all types of dancers and know the deal from what they tell me.

It sucks to make the initial investment, but it can pay off so much, even as a clean dancer, if the host is cool.

I wish there was a system where no fkn host had to put us in vip. At my club... If the customers tip less than 20%, I hear a damn fuss about it from the host. Except for a genuinely nice one and one who is crushing on me. Lol

My club does this, but the VIP host makes it very clear to the customer that the tip is for him not the girl and offers to forward cash to the customer off his card to tip me.

yeah when I first started the VIP hosts wouldn't say that and guys would get confused when we told them.
