    WWW Technical internet speed question...

So I know the standard answer of "more is better", but I was wondering if anyone knew more specifically what kind of minimum upload speeds I need?

I'm in a bad situation. My roomates have had this Comcast plan for years now and it's super cheap, so they don't want to switch plans because they'd loose the deal they have. (Even when I offered to pay the difference.) But it's only 750k upload. And I need more upload speed. They also torrent, so it blocks the pipe.

So I thought I could get my own DSL plan.(Since DSL uses the phone line, it won't interfere with their cable line.) But I can only get 1 mbps upload max.

If I was the only computer on that connection, and hardwired in (no wifi, no sharing, just me plugged into modem) do you think I could stream fine with 1 meg up? I only work streamate, don't split cam, and don't use encoder (just the web interface high def).

Any help would be so great. <3 I'm loosing customers because of this and I can't deal with them torrenting anymore.

If you have a great computer, 1mbps upload could work. I know plenty of girls that do it.

DSL sucks. But I understand you gotta do what you gotta do. I would check with the upload speed before you sign any contracts

If you're actually getting 1 mbps upload (and not split camming etc) you'd be fine, however in my experience they like to advertise maximum speeds... meaning you may get up to 1 mbps, not that you're guaranteed that speed, and it will probably be lower. I've successfully cammed on Streamate with a 0.35 upload speed but if it gets that low using the encoder will probably be a necessity, as it lets you tweak the settings in a way you can't using the web interface. I would try using the encoder and playing with the settings before you make any decisions.

Wait.... I can use the encoder to lower my bandwidth requirements!? Can I ask what settings to play around with and what they do? I tried a search and couldn't find anything useful.

I'm assuming this means breaking away from the official SM setting files.

I can't look it up now, since I'm somewhere where Streamate is banned on the network, but if you look into the encoder section on your model page, there should be a low settings. Since I use their recommended settings for TV Producer, I haven't fooled around with it too much. But you can test it out and figure out which one works best for you. Also streaming through the browser is totally alright. So you don't have to use encoder. Encoder is optional, but preferred and the site highly recommends it.
