I recommend it almost exclusively. It has by far the easiest interface to understand and it's extremely thorough if you get the small business edition.

I use it as well. Super easy..you do have to pay, but I think you can opt for it to be taken out of your return. I've had other 1099's before and it was simple. Go for it!

I'm thinking about using turbotax. It looks like there's a 5% bonus for an amazon giftcard too (camming materials, anyone?) which seems like a great park. I've always used a CPA and I know that CPA's help reduce the chance of being audited... but I'm kind of hesitant about my CPA knowing what I do. It looks like turbotax is a bit cheaper too....

You can get the audit insurance when you check out, its a fairly straightforward thing.

I used Turbo Tax last year and it was very straight-forward. The only issue was on my end when my family CPA did my parent's return and realized the whole family got an overall better refund if he claimed me as a dependent. Alas, that was my last year of pulling that stunt since I pay 100% of everything these days.

I'm using our family CPA this year because the man is a freaking genius. Turbo Tax deductions for home office, insurance, utilities, internet, and the like are good enough to get me into the ball park of owing like 10% taxes overall, if that, but our CPA is top-notch and knows of several valid deductions Turbo Tax missed. The running joke goes something along the lines of 'my rate will never exceed your refund.'

Altogether, I think that Turbo Tax Business is fine for camming related work, but I wanted to do my first year or two of adult work taxes with a CPA who could show me all of the valid tricks and point out anything I might have missed so I can do it myself confidently at a later date.

I used turbotax for the first time last year (on the recommendation from girls on here). It not only was easy, but they ACTUALLY answered the phone when I had questions, and were very nice and helpful.
One thing that I'm upset about is that this year they are not going to handle the filing of my state's taxes. Only the federal.

Is it that they can't handle your state taxes at all, or they just won't electronically file them? For us they just gave us the .pdf to print out and send and said you couldn't file electronically because of our state requirements on business taxes.

Well, I know that Minnesota isn't accepting Turbo Tax this year for state returns because of fraud and the government is apparently launching an investigation, so most states are wary of them right now.

I never use the online version, as it tries to up-sell you continuously the more forms you use. Small business download/offline package should work for most people.
