Default Can you have too much body art/jewelry?

In response to a reply I got regarding a comment I made about too many nose rings. What came to mind is that in my opinion it is possible to have too much ornamentation. Two or three nose rings fall into the same category as having too many tattoos, or the Cathedral in Cologne, St Peter's in the Vatican, or some of the extravagant palaces in Europe. There are so many individual parts to look at, that it distracts you from being able to appreciate the beauty of the whole. More than once I have found myself checking out the individual tattoos on a dancer, with a bunch of tattoos, to the point that I couldn't even tell you what the dancer actually looked like or what her routine was.

Charlie 61 said that girls with nose rings do not care what mere mortals think. I would have agreed with Charlie61's comment 10 or 15 years ago. Back then the girls wearing them were already on the upper end of the beauty scale, that it just enhanced their look. For some it still does, but now they have become so ubiquitous, in the hopes of attaining that goddess status, that nose rings seem have lost that effect.

So, what's the point of this thread again? To make girls with facial jewelry uncomfortable? Are you curious about other users' preferences? Or is it solely to voice your own opinion?

It's just a bit bizarre that you started an entire thread simply to state your opinion about nose rings.

It's kind of like the bumper sticker phenomenon. When you slap a sticker on your car, you'll only end up pissing a bunch of people off who don't agree with you. Clearly a preference for facial jewelry is quite personal, and many of our members either have jewelry themselves or appreciate how it looks on other people. So by starting this thread - a thread that exists merely to broadcast your dislike for nose rings - you're asking for drama.

To clarify...if you had posted something like this, I wouldn't have questioned your motives: "What's your opinion on nose rings? Do you think they're sexy, or are they not your thing? I'm personally not a huge fan, but I'm curious about what everyone else thinks!" This is a forum...usually threads are started to invite responses.

If that's the discussion you're looking for, then perhaps you should change the thread's title and the original post accordingly.

    Edit is much better.

And I hope you know, OP, that my original comment was said in jest. I was just trying to be funny when I said that they don't concern themselves with others' opinions. Though the underlying point is serious: that generally, people with visible tattoos and piercings don't care if their body modifications appeal to others or not. It's a personal decision, usually made because the owner likes them and wishes to attract people with similar tastes.

Still, totally legitimate thread topic. Proceed.

I know it was made in jest and took it as such. It just got me to thinking about why I had that opinion.

PS-I find guys with tattoos more attractive and most guys who tell me they hate tattoos aren't someone I'd fuck. So, it works out well

I don't mean it in the sense of no tattoos vs having tattoos. I mean it more in the sense of having one or two on your arm vs having a full sleeve, or having 4 earrings vs having 19 earrings. Getting body art or adding jewelry to the body is certainly a personal decision, but is it possible to have too much, so that it will affect you negatively in your profession?

I don't find full sleeves ugly, I just wind up looking at nothing but the arm trying to figure out the design, rather than the dancer.

I think the more the better. There's just as many guys who like tattoos as ones that don't. I've had friends with no tattoos dance for guys who preferred that, most came back to the dressing room complaining about them misbehaving.

I personally have zero tattoos and only one piercing in each ear. And I only wear studs, no drop earrings. So I'm about as conventional as you can get when it comes to body modification ...

But I have the biggest lady boner for Rihanna. I think her piercings and tattoos are the sexiest!

This was a common statement made by many club customers I have met. Depending on their placement, I also find them to be distracting if I wanted to 'see the big picture' of the dancer.

Having worked in several clubs in different states, I have found that tattoos and dancers are the norm. It is rare for me to see dancers without a tattoo of any kind.

Getting a tattoo or certain piercings would not benefit me in my personal life or my professional life in which body art would absolutely need to be covered up/taken out. However, the lack of body art has greatly benefited me as a dancer, as being the minority without tattoos. Being 'different' garnered attention and the lack of body art attracted a wide range of customers.

I doubt ppl who get all these tattoos and piercings care about other ppl's opinions. They're not doing it to please anyone.

If someone is attractive, they are attractive. I don't have any tattoos myself, & don't care to get any tbh but I do appreciate nicely done tattoos on certain ppl.

It really depends on the person and their look. And, obviously, the quality of what they have. Personally, when it comes to a lot of people, I do think there's a line they can cross where I look at them and think "too much." But sometimes people can be full-out "modified" and look totally rad.

Personally, I like tattoos and piercings on women way more than on men. I don't really find them attractive on most men. I think it's because I consider it "artsy" aka "feminine." Idk, I've always had a thing for super clean-cut looking guys but artsy, edgy girls.

But, regardless of how I feel about any of this, as was already stated by many, the people who alter - especially permanently, in the case of tattoos - do it for themselves, not because they really give a rip about other people's opinions about "how many is too many" on their body.

I understand the argument that when it comes to dancers or other people working in a looks-based industry, it could affect them, but at the end of the day, unless you're a full-on, fulltime, professional "career" stripper who plans to work in top-notch clubs until you retire, worrying about your look can only stretch so far without driving you up a wall. It's one thing to make sure you're fit, take good care of your hair/teeth/nails/skin, and know how to apply makeup and dress to flatter your body type - all general things that anyone can and should do - but when you're talking about forgoing your entire personal look just for the sake of appeasing some random customers who don't give a flip about you or your body or your happiness outside of the maybe few hundred bucks they're gonna throw your way.... There are many girls who would rather make themselves happy in their off-hours than worry about the handful of customers or clubs who won't like them the few days a week that they work.

I understand the personal side, and that I am not judging, to each his own and if your happy that is all that matters. I am just curious about the professional/business effect of it.

I personally am not into tons of tatts or piercings.

When I think of lots of tattooes and piercings I think of Denis rodman or lil Wayne neither of which I find attractive buuuuut I'm sure there are women who do.

I did go through a phase where I got a couple body piercings and tattoos so I can see why people like them. Mine were all smaller and hidden because i grew up with the notion that visible tatts and any piercings would limit corporate job opportunities. Well I work for myself so I don't have to worry about that but I do think too many (especially poorly done tattoos pointless art think Gucci mane face ice cream tatt) can be distracting to the eye, or at least my eyes.

But hey to each his own

Well, I love men with full sleeves tattoos, lip piercings, multiple ear piercings, long nails and back tattoos. I have a thing for Emo, Scene, and goth guys Most of the guys that I have dated had about 3 or 4 ear piercings, tattoos, and even long nails. Mainly, they worked either as tattoos artists, other types of artists such as photographers, butchers or tuckers. However, I do not like facial tattoos on men or women unless it some type of cultural thing. My tattoos are hidden...so I would not have any problems in the corporate world. Personally, I believe that it is a matter of personal taste when it comes to tattoos.

It's personal preference really. Each individual is a package. Different build, skin tone, hair, and body art some look better with tattoos and piercings some look better without.

Personally my opinion is whatever that person is comfortable with, up to the point it might become drowning hazard, or so heavy they can't walk...depends on the person. And NO, those of us with tattoos and piercings don't give a rat's ass what anybody thinks of it.

I like tattoos and body jewelry. It's a beautiful way to express yourself. In the words of Madonna- "Express yourself, don't repress yourself." I find beauty in a wide variety of different looks. That's the great thing about variety. Beauty exists in so many different forms.

However, I would say this is a tad overboard IMO:

    world record.JPG

Nothing against them, more power to 'em! I just personally am not into that level of body modification.
