Duh I sprained my foot right before my BA!

Hi ladies. I messed up. Late Friday night I hurt my right knee and foot. Saturday I went to the nice, expensive urgent care with an in-house radiology department, and was told that knee was just severely bruised and my foot was just sprained. I was given the standard RICE advice, a prescription for some pain meds, and told I should be able to walk without crutches in a week or two. I'm still pretty swollen, so I feel like it'll be closer to two.

I'm getting a BA this Friday in the early morning. I've read a ton about what I should expect while I'm recovering, but I have no clue whether I should expect to be able to walk on crutches in the days following the procedure. I'm assuming I should bring along a friend to help my boyfriend load me into the car post-op, and carry me to the bed or sofa, but is it safe to assume I can walk on crutches for short distances (like to the bathroom) after the anesthesia wears off? The surgery is already paid for, and I've been planning this for months. I'd hate to try to postpone it at the last minute because I need to use crutches for a few more days, and I think there are serious financial penalties for rescheduling a few days before (I'd look it up right now, but my patient information booklet is on the other side of the room lol).

I feel silly thinking about buying a wheelchair just to make it easier to get around my house for a few days.

Has anyone here used crutches after a BA, or known someone who did? FWIW, I'm getting silicone unders with inframammary incisions.

I was so tight after my BA for a few days after that I could barely move. When I did move it was mostly just to the bathroom and my boyfriend had to help me walk down the hall and pull my bottoms down for me. I can't imagine walking in crutches because my arms were stuck to my sides from the tightness. I would think if you can't walk on your foot you can just have someone help you get to the bathroom on mainly one foot. I was already needing so much help as it was it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference if my foot was hurting too. One week after my surgery I was feeling good though and even spray tanned with my arms above my head so you may only need that much help for a couple days.. I don't think a wheelchair would be necessary but see what your surgeon says!

You won't be able to use crutches IMO, it would be painful and possibly damaging. Express your concerns to your surgeon. The hospital will be able to provide you with a wheelchair to get you to your lift post surgery. You may also "loan" one from the hospital, but you would not be able to wheel yourself around anyway. You might just need to rely on the help of others post op (you won't be very mobile initially anyway). Or, ask to stay overnight to insure you have the help you need the first night.

I talked to the head nurse at my surgeon's clinic; she talked to my surgeon & called me back. He doesn't think that using crutches will impede the healing process, and says using a wheelchair would be bad because I need to be up and moving around a bit. This seems intuitively wrong to me, but I guess I have to choice but to trust him.

I'll have 2 people at my house for the first couple of days to carry me if I need to be carried, and my foot seems to be getting better already. I just can't tell if this is normal jitters everyone has before surgery, or if this is a unique situation I should worried about.

I mean I don't think it will end up being a huge deal because if you end up like me you will pretty much be in your bed for a week all out of it watching movies and sleeping. When you get up it will be to the bathroom and you'll have someone help you hobble over there. By the time you don't need to take the heavy meds anymore and you're feeling better you probably won't be so tight and could use the crutches easily (week after prob). Everyone's healing process is different though, my friend just got her boobs done and she felt perfectly fine like the next day. I think your jitters are normal because I was freaking out up until the day of my surgery.. almost to the point that I was thinking I wanted to cancel it for no reason haha. If your foot already seems better I think you should be fine.. just have your crutches there for back up if you want to try using them and your boyfriend/friend there as well. Good luck!

I did it! I have fake boobs! And my foot is okay to very carefully walk on for short distances! Yay!
