Default Newb here, what is none of THEIR business (costumer/fan)?

Hi SW! I love this place, I've been studying it for almost a two years on and off (hoping to find a better vanilla job, but looks like this was meant to be). Before I jumped into this, I wanted to build a "fan base" and just test the waters on a niche site. I finally feel like I need to be paid for my content and am ready to take the next step. While I had and still have my vanilla job, I requested certain questions not be asked re: my identity, but they still do. I usually ignore them or am very vague, but I know when I get into this, I'm going to have to be more "warm." The problem is, I am honest to a fault, very friendly, and even lying by omission, makes me feel a little bad bad. But screw it, I'm here to start a business and make money.

I just wanted to know how do you maintain your regulars or gain new fans, when they are so curious about your life? (For example, one wants to know my full name and birthdate to fly me out- and I'm like HELL NO--he doesn't get what the big deal is about that… ignorant smh) I know it seems obvious which questions you don't have to answer, but when I go into this I never want to be caught off guard. I have to have my defense arsenal ready to go once I start this…

In your experience, what is none of a costumer's business and how do you dodge them?

    Welcome!

All girls are different in how much they reveal, do whatever is comfortable for you. Be careful about too many lies, as you may forget what you said last time!

Personally, they don't get my real name (or my family's names!) or my precise location, just a district (or where I used to live, or where I'm planning to move to). Otherwise I'm not too guarded. I talk about my pets, my past holidays, my degree, blah blah whatever.

Careful of playing local radio stations or having takeaway menus lying around etc - will give you away!

True, true. I wanted to create this character completely opposite of me, so I don't have to reveal anything of myself…but yeah getting caught up in that is something to work out too.

Ooooohhh takeaway menus that's a good one. See that's why I made this thread… I just need more "the devil is in the details" things to think about and make sure I'm on point! Thanks <3

I don't cam, but as a dancer, I try and pick one fake story and stick to it. Parts of it may change based on the customer I'm interacting with, but the general idea/big things (where I live, what I do outside the club, where I'm from, etc.) stay the same. Helps me keep track -- as Vlodina pointed out it can be easy to forget what you previously said -- while giving me room to customize my personality to what it seems the customer is looking for. I get feeling bad about lying about omission, but I think you need to just not think of it as a lie. Your customers aren't paying for access to your true self; they're paying to spend time with the persona that you're presenting. Using your stage name isn't a lie, so why should using a fabricated backstory for that stage name be a lie? You're selling entertainment and a fantasy, after all!

My cam room is my office. I'm very careful to NEVER flip my camera around in there. I keep family photos, my degrees (with my full legal name), and all manner of other personal things behind the camera on the wall/my desk. My actual cam space that's in frame is just my decor, bed, and decorations.

Beware of posters that are for local things (i.e. small bands, etc.), pictures of locations, WINDOWS (guys WILL screen cap that shit and can find your location based on the view out the window, I kid you not). Keep your space super locked down for personal info.

Guys ask where I live and I tell them 'on the internet' and 'somewhere in the US' if they press. If they keep asking or call me a cunt (common), I tell 'em it's none of their business. I stole the internet line from Audri, btw, so credit where it's due.

I never give them my name. I never talk about my family/friends (not that you have a sister, not that one of your parents passed away, not your favorite place to meet friends). If you've got plans for a big concert or a trip, don't tell them about it. No one really needs to know you're going on vacation to Oahu--the island is tinier than you'd think.

My profile is so heavily edited. My age isn't correct, my height is a bit off, my weight is a bit off--heck, I fibbed on my eye color (grey/blue/green eyes? Pick one that isn't yours if you can manage to get away with it).

    Stalkers--I'm all about preventing them.

ETA: the thing about radios is also correct--Pandora plays advertisements based on zip codes, so make sure it isn't set to your actual zip code! Also, hide any clocks, as that will give away your time zone! 'What time is it where you're at bb?' The answer is always morning/night/afternoon. Not too specific.

Also, never tell people if you live alone. If they ask, tell them no or ignore the question. Women who live alone are targets, plain and simple, so fib fib fib!

DAMN! Now that is something to remember. And Isabelle thank you too. See this is why I love this site; it keeps my head straight. I too, am afraid of stalkers. I don't want to be too paranoid, but I just want to be ready and maintain frame when it happens. Thank you lady loves so much! Such great things to keep in mind.

Make a fake real name. That's what I did. People ask your name, tell them your fake real name. Or tell them you won't tell them that and just give your fake real name to special customers (who spend lots of money on you) but never ever ever give out your real name. Even your first name. Like, don't make your fake real name your real first name with a fake last name. Be very vague about where you live, or just lie outright. Create a full persona and study it so that your story is consistant. Stalkers are scary and they can get pretty far with a small amount of info.

Be safe and welcome to the forums!

When I first started camming over 4 yrs. ago, I didn't know about this forum, and with only giving the city I lived in, I had 2 stalkers!
I learned very quickly, not to give out any personal info.
My accent is pretty distinct and regional, so I just tell guys (only after they are in a paid session with me,that I live where I used to).
Most guys don't push it, and like most people, just really want to talk about themselves....or their dicks.
I usually turn the question around, and ask personal questions about him...i.e. his job, what he likes to do, hobbies, etc.
I have one fake name I use, so its easy to remember, although guys just call me BB.
I do get the where do u live question on my pso lines as well, and I just say the us.. if they push it, I say that I don't live any one place, because I travel around training slaves. That shuts them up.

I don't tell them much of anything. My name is a fake "real name" as mentioned above. My location is here, there, everywhere, over under. I don't talk about my family, I do talk about my pets, but I don't even give out the real info on them ( breed, names, ect.) they have a million nicknames so I just use those when I refer to them. I do say I'm married which I am, I don't really talk about it beyond answering the question of " does he mind what you do?". I never say he's not home, if they ask if he can hear, I say he likes it or something like that. Keep your cam space as impersonal as possible, I stick to a playlist on my ipod because of the Pandora/Local station thing. I've been told I have a strange accent, but I grew up in a house with 3 adults with 3 different distinct regional/ethnic accents so that kind of gives me a mish mosh. I get around nailing it down because honestly depending on what I say or how, it comes out as one of those 3 or some weird blend. Good to know about the windows thing, I keep the curtains closed but would have never thought of a Google Earth type thing.

Reading this and thinking about it, I guess the devil really is in the details. Takeout menu's I wouldn't have thought of either!

I never provide any personal information. I am vague about everything! It's called PERSONAL information for a reason. I talk about work (cam/videos etc) stuff, some hobbies, and very generic things like what I am making for dinner etc. If they are pushy trying to get personal info off you see it as a red flag. You don't owe them shit aside from what your job is, and that is to offer them shows. Why do you feel bad lying and/or hold back information from someone that may or may not be trying to stalk you, record your shows and post them afterwards, or even just because they are just plain rude and feel entitled? Sometimes they are asking because they just want a persona behind the model, so don't feel bad making up a story. In that case you are selling an image to them not your real self and it's ok to make up stories or an alter ego/persona.

If you're worried that you cannot say no, then create a basic, generic persona and stick to it. Like, let's say use your favourite aunts middle name as your fake name. After you've repeated the same thing a million times it will be talking about a friend or a character from a book. Like everyone else said, keep smart about what info may lead them into your personal life. Menus, sports teams you like/go see, concerts/ conventions, events, radio/tv in background, random items on a bookcase etc. If you visited somewhere huge like NYC for a week and are not too worried saying you went to a let's say a Yankees baseball game, then say it AFTER it's happned. Never talk about family, friends or other such details. And remember, the best way to keep your story straight is to "KISS" -> "keep it simple silly".

Keep in mind the architecture of your house, too! You can see a door and a window frame in my cam space, and it's pretty obvious that I live in a old house on the East Coast. I don't mind that people know that, because I don't claim to be someplace else, but guys have commented on it and tried to guess the age and location of the house. That said, this style can be found anywhere from MA to FL, so it's not a great clue. If someone were really knowledgeable, they might be able to pin down the specific architectural style, but even then, that would only tell them that I might be in a few cities where that style was fairly prominent.

Therefore, my cam persona lives in a city nearby-ish, where this house style can be found, where the weather is similar, and where culture, plants, and wildlife are similar. I do NOT give out that city if they ask, but I always have it in mind, and know about the weather there, just in case it differs from mine. That way, if I accidentally drop hints about my real area, I can drop some more hints about my fake city, and it will still line up and point them in the wrong direction.

Lie your ass off. Make sure anywhere you are camming is sterile. Even down to what you drink in front of them. ( apparently some drinks are regionally labeled?) Take no chances. If they catch you in a lie, laugh. Make up a new lie. Only idiots are really going to "try to meet you in real life". Sadly there are a fuckton of idiots out there. Guys that think we do this for any reason other than the $$$. They're delusional. They think if they send you cock pictures of their great towering ( or not even towering) manhood your panties will get all wet and you'll have to invite them over because you can't help yourself. If they're not tipping or just keep questioning you and not going private --- BAN BAN BAN. So many guys ask me where I live. It's plain as day on my write up. My fake location. And out of alllll those guys that ask me where I live and still go private. less than 1%. So basically if they ask you where you live just BAN. You owe these guys nothing until they pay and then you just give them a show. Nothing more.

I keep information where I live VERY private. I am still "me" of course, but my private life is more important. Today I had someone asks me details (kept asking, annoyingly) and I told him, "I'm going to politely ask you to stop questioning me about my private location." He stopped. If they don't stop, I'd ban them instantly.

Sidebar: I just wanted to say that when I first read the title of this thread, at first thought the OP meant (referring to the typo 'costumer', instead of customer, until I read it through.
The thought of costumes got me thinking of ways to spice up my cam rooms....I found an awesome 'costume' warehouse in my new town yesterday, that sells every costume, wig, & accessory imaginable.
So thanks for inspiring me to change things up a bit for work!

From experience as a PSO, I already have a back story for everything. Guys want to know where you go to school, about your friendships, your family members, etc. Make everything as realistic and believable as possible. When they ask for stories, I think about things that actually happened and then I mix in some untrue things to make the story more exciting and change the names to reflect who they are asking about.

I have my cam name, geographic region only, fake accent, and I tell them I don't discuss anything irrelevant to a cam show. They don't need to know exactly where I live, marital status, kids, pets, or anything else like that and that is what I tell them. They ask to meet up? I type out violates TOS.

I don't give out my info to anyone anymore. I used to do the fake name/location thing, but it seemed to encourage clingy behavior. Once they had my "real" info, they seemed to think we were BFFs and we could hangout for free. NOPE.

Nowadays, if I'm feeling nice, I'll tell them that my location is a secret. If I'm feeling like a troll, I'll tell them that I live in an underground bunker/on the moon/under their bed. If I'm tired of being asked that question over and over all freaking day, I'll tell them that there's no chance in hell that I'll ever meet up with them, so why does it matter where I live?

My tolerance for bullshit is pretty much zero at this point in my life.

I will share somethings about me that are interesting. But that's it. My location (some people can figure out when I'm from because of my accent/dialect), age, relationships, health, ect are of no ones concern, because it is not important. I have no problem shooting the shit, but if it's personal, no-no. I say it all the time on cam. "Why make it personal? We are here to masturbate." Because that's what it comes down to.

Great advice in this thread. I came in to weigh in on "what is none of their business" with "anything you don't want them to know" but it looks like it's all taken care of already.

. People have said, "doesn't that turn people off? If they know you're lying then they're less likely to want to become regs." I think a major reason that these guys want to know personal info about you is that they want to be closer to you, be the "special" guy who knows the real you. When someone hits the point at which they become enough of a reg to realize that I'm lying about this, I can decide to tell him (in pvt) the state I'm actually from. Now he feels he's in on the joke and he's a trusted confidant. I've gained trust without actually giving anything away that I wouldn't have already given for free had I picked and consistently used a fake state. It's the same kind of trust building buffer that you get with selectively sharing a fake real name.
