Sad Best repair for fried, over-processed, breaking off bleached hair

The hairdresser fried my hair from carelessly leaving bleach on too long and my hair is breaking off and can no longer handle heat styling etc. I'm using pure coconut oil once or twice a week and sleep with it on. I'm taking 1000mcg biotin as well.

I also have two hair masks.. moroccan oil repair and african shea damage repair and avoiding heat styling. Any other suggestions or product recommendations?

Thanks. My hair is a disaster.

Bad news- this is going to be a long hard time in your life.

The good news- can you wear headwraps or wigs? Anything you do to shelter your hair and make new growth happen can be accelerated by lots of measures, but the top thing you want to do is help prevent new hair from getting pulled out or damaged.

It took me TWO YEARS to grow out hair that was processed three times and finally fried by a bad home color job. It was so sad.

My advice- eat things like Jello and steak, any high protein thing you can stomach, eat it. Rubbing Monistat into your scalp with a toothbrush works too (yeah I know, crazy.) Start using shower caps & wash your hair way less. All of this will maintain scalp health and keep new hair from getting pulled out. IF possible, do the "no shampoo" hair care method of using baking soda and ACV vinegar. (However with chemical damage to your hair this might not work as well as it does with virgin hair.)

Just get the hair grown out and take care of the new growth.

I'd recommend, 1st of all for your scalp, from Sally's Beauty:http://sallybeauty.com/braid-sheen-s...efault,pd.html

    ^it's very soothing, & will help w/growth.

    For your hair: http://www.kerastase-usa.com/masque_...-cleanse-treat

it's expensive, but the jar, it'll last, & well worth it.

Also this, if you can..if not, use the braid spray til you can http://www.kerastase-usa.com/masque_...reat-condition

Also, you need a VERY Gentle shampoo http://www.sephora.com/be-gentle-be-...equestid=51570
    or
    http://www.sephora.com/shampoo-P3888...equestid=51726

Seriously? I'd report the 'beautician' to the state. That is uncalled for unprofessional, & worse, dangerous.
    Good luck.

Yeah I know.. Its so depressing.. this is the third time I've had to do this because of idiots/bad hairdressers. It sucks.. took me 2-3 years last time to grow it out and have it exactly how I wanted my hair.

Two things are really good for preventing friction, breakage, and tangles: satin pillowcases and ugly scrunchies. You can get the pillowcases at Sally or a weave shop for cheap. Wearing your hair in a very soft braid or low ponytail while you sleep is so much gentler than sleeping with it loose. A scrunchie is totally unsexy but it's way better than a regular elastic band.

If you aren't already using a soft bristle brush, you should try one. I think natural is best. They're more gentle than a comb/hard bristle brush and they smooth oils down to the end of the hair shaft.

Finally, you should try using coconut oil whenever you wash your hair, not just once a week.

Sorry your hair got messed up! I hope it grows out asap.

Yeah, I have a gentle detangle brush and only washing my hair once or twice a week.. The roots are already an inch long I'm not going out with a scrunchie lol.

Do unprofessional, annoying hairdressers realize the problems they cause for people especially in a job based on appearance. I'm so tired of dealing with their screw ups for the past 5 years. I hate this. I'm thinking of getting a weave sewn in or tape extensions or something. This is ridiculous what a bitch she is for doing that.

Do NOT baking soda your hair if it's really as damaged as you say! BS is highly alkaline, which is why you have to ACV after, and you want NOTHING alkaline or stripping on your hair. My best suggestion is mixing 2 cups 100% aloe gel (the clear kind) with one can of coconut milk (not beverage!) Use this as your conditioning cleanser. The fat proteins from the coconut milk will help fill in and strengthen holes in the follicle. Another good one for that is real henna once every week or two, but DO YOUR RESEARCH before trying it. Some hennas can have very, very nasty results if you try to chemically process it at a later date.

Stick to using a detangling brush/comb BEFORE showering, use natural bristle (boar) brushes after detangling to distribute protective scalp oils down the strand.

If you can tolerate inversion, try that to help hair grow faster. Try scalp massages with a mix of castor and jojoba (the closest match to natural sebum) oils, leave on overnight, and wash out with a GENTLE (sulfate/sulfite free) shampoo (I personally like Dr Bronner's Baby-Mild soap followed by ACV or the aloe/coconut shampoo).

If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.

Yeah just get a weave sew in. I did this when my hair was badly damaged after dyeing it. But if you do this, get an applicator bottle and fill it with leave in conditioner and put some in your real hair everyday. The applicator bottle will help you reach your hair inside while you have the weave in.
My hair felt brand new after I did this.

I had to cut 6 inches off of mine for it to even be manageable after bleaching the f out of it. Use products that will replenish the protein and keratin in your hair. I use Macadamia rejuvenating conditioner, the one that comes in a jar. It smells amazing, and it will replenish protein in your hair. It is expensive, but SO worth it. Invest in expensive and reputable hair products like Kerastase, I would use coconut and olive oil at least twice weekly. Also an egg in your hair, let it sit for an hour or over night. You are probably going to have to just get it cut off, though. Mine is now manageable, but I will not be able to bleach it until it grows out.

I've been on a mission to get healthy thick hair again after damaging it a LOT over the years. I take biotin & fish oil every day, I try not to put it up too much (or if I do I use an old school thick scrunchy.. they're less damaging), I use a natural shampoo with argon oil & protein or whatever else is in it, a natural conditioner with shea & other good stuff in it (shamp & conditioner are from walmart so pretty cheap), I do at home hair treatments all the time, and I only let my hair air dry and I rarely use hot tools on it.

Hair treatment: coconut oil & peppermint oil in hair for as long as possible (like as early in the day as I can and wash it out as late as I can the next day is what I do)

My "Ultimate" hair treatment: coconut oil, peppermint oil, a little olive oil, 1 egg, 1 egg yolk, avocado, honey .. leave that all in for a few hours

Seriously the ultimate hair treatment I did made my hair SOO nice. It sounds gross and I thought it would dye my hair yellow or green but it didn't. Actually I only put the avocado in for the last hour of the treatment bc I was scared of it turning my blonde hair green lol. But literally the best mask ever for your hair I highly recommend. They say only put egg in your hair once a month so you can do the other treatment in between. At my hair-peak I was doing it every two weeks or sooner but I've gotten lazy.

I'm pretty obsessed with getting my hair healthy again haha but I think it all boils down to home-made hair masks, natural shampoos and conditioners, very little to no heat, vitamins, a LOT of water, and a healthy diet (which is the part I suck at lol). I wash my hair once or twice a week and I stopped using normal brushes.. I only really use a wide tooth comb. I also use Aveda damage therapy products after I wash it.

It doesn't need to be expensive and you may not need to cut it off if you stick to doing all of this consistently for a while. My hair was growing pretty fast when I was doing all of this consistently for a few months. My hair was really SO damaged at one point. I used to fry the shit out of it with straighteners and curlers and crimpers for YEARS, I got it permed, I get highlights, I used to do fashion shows where they teased and hair sprayed and fried my hair.. I'm really surprised I even have any hair left honestly lol. It's pretty healthy and long now though.

I can vouch for coconut oil. Leave it in as a deep conditioner and maybe even put a shower cap on in the shower to let it soak in further then wash it out.

It may take some time to get your hair back to good health. And the biotin should help with making it grow longer and fuller after consistent use.

Sorry to hear about your experience with this unskilled beautician. I have had my fair share of horror stories and now I can tell right of the bat if they don't know what their doing. And I only go to stylist I know can do a good job. Did you tell her boss what happened? They should have at least offered to try and fix it for free or gave you a discount on conditioning products or something?

Be careful of too much protein. It can snap your hair off and make things so much worse. I recommend a gentle shampoo (shampoo as little as you can get away with) like Bumble and Bumble shampoo and the Rich conditioner. Amazing stuff. Also for drugstore options, Neutrogena triple nutrition mask, the one in the jar with the orange top is excellent. Get a boar bristle brush and carefully detangle your hair when it's still wet. Don't rub it with a towel, get one of those absorbent twisty turbies from CVS. Eat lots of protein, rather than using products with protein in them.

Oh hun I feel your pain.
I got blied (blonde-fried) over 4 years back and I'm only just back to where I was before length wise.
Two years ago I started taking 5mg of folic acid as close to daily as I can remember. In the UK it is pregnancy grade and very hard to get hold of apart from online. I stock up when I travel elsewhere. I have noticed that my hair grown while taking it is stronger and less prone to breakage/snappage.
I have been using coconut oil overnight twice weekly for the last 3 years too and that works to keep the hair healthier.
    But
    and this will be great for you;
To encourage better thicker, faster hair growth (and possibly better quality sleep) use a mix of 70% coconut oil and 30% castor oil. You can use pure castor oil but it is VERY thick and whiffs oddly.
You and also use castor oil overnight to encourage eyebrow and eyelash growth but avoid getting it in your eye or the world will look misty!

^This ! I found the Shu UEmura range http://www.shuuemuraartofhair-usa.com/ultimate_remedy to be the best over the counter/non natural remedy. It's been a year since my hair was ruined and it's not even half way back to being healthy, it's getting there though. I lost inches and was devastated.

If you keep the colour, just dye the roots and tone the rest to match-putting dye in the fried lengths will cause more breakage . Find a skilled colorist to help you nurture it back to health-it will be a slow journey.

One more vote for Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy range - I use the mask and the serum. It is ceramide-based, not protein, so there is no risk of overdrying your hair if you use too much of it, it is a very balanced product. Aphogee offers some strong protein treatments, especally the 2-step treatment is said to be quite powerful, and the 2-min reconstructor is the weaker version. Apart from the Shu Uemura range which is my HG of haircare, I also use the Lipidium range by L'oreal Professionel (mask, 2-component serum, primer and ampules), Milkshake whipped cream, Joico K-pak intense hydrator and deep-penetrating treatment, Fusio doses by Kerastase, Chi silk infusion. It is imporant to keep the right balance between protein, ceramides and moisture.

This started happening to me, my stylist pulled bleach through instead of just doing the roots, and I had pieces ⅓ the length of the rest where they broke off partway up and were frizzy and fried on the ends.
I dyed it a dark red color (so I wouldn't have to color it for a while and roots wouldn't show), started only washing it twice a week and using the Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo/conditioner, and really limiting dryer and straightener use, like drying it just enough to not be dripping everywhere and only curling it once a week. Really simple stuff, but after 6 months, it feels and looks MUCH better.

About 1 year ago a new product was launched in US, called Olaplex. They say if your hairdresser adds it to the bleaching mix, the hair won't get nearly as damaged, plus it can be used separately as a hair strengthening treatment.

I haven't much luck healing my hair once it's damaged from bleaching, but I used to take herbal supplements that actually made my hair grow. The brand is Banyan Botanicals and the one I used was called Healthy Hair. I know everyone's hair is different but for me personally they made a difference. Best of luck!

Supplements can help the new growth or speed up the growth a little, but they can't do anything about the hair which has already grown out. Kerastase offers a range for damaged hair which is called Resistance - the mask is called Masque Force Architecte, there is also a serum named Fibre Architecte which combines ceramides and keratin, and the Ciment thermique which is used as a thermal protection from blowdry. Nutritive is the hydrating range. Redken has the Extreme range: Redken Extreme Strength Builder mask, Extreme Anti-Snap and Extreme CAT Protein Treatment.
