Here in UK, as long as the items are SOLELY AND EXCLUSIVELY for your work, you can claim them against expenses. That means never using them for anything except work.
In the US generally you can't write off anything that could possibly be used for personal use. Makeup is a big one. If you can get a CPA to sign off on it, then go for it, but I wouldn't try to claim it if self-filing. The IRS calls it the "housewife test". Also generally speaking, unless you spent thousands on makeup and/or are filing as a separate business then it usually doesn't effect taxes (and can even negatively effect you in some situations).

When I first started camming I also sold Avon, if you sell makeup etc, then its a write off if you buy it from the company you sell it for, that's about the only way I know to write it off. Though in theory if a customer specifies a certain type of makeup and you print off his request then you might could write the makeup off on an as needed bases.

If the receipt for the makeup has the name of a big box store or department store on it, a business expense tax deduction is unlikely to fly ... since 'housewives' buy the same makeup every day with no business reason for doing so. But if the receipt has the name of a theatrical supply house, no problem deducting it.
Also, there's a ton of threads in Dollar Den discussing this and other dancer / camgirl tax issues !
