Default That Time of the Month??

Hey! I just got hired somewhere and will probably start within the next week or 2. I don't get to sign up to work, my boss texts me inviting me to work and I accept/decline. I really don't want to decline my first shift, but I'm PMSing and I get my period REAL bad... like bloating, the worst pain I've ever experienced, bleeding through... its a nightmare. I even have prescription meds but they don't even really help in the first couple days.
Does anyone have any good tips on dancing with your period? Like, is the tampon string going to end up hanging out of my thong?

you roll the string in a ball and tuck it up inside you or cut it. only you can decide if you'll be able to dance with the pain, but a lot of strippers take the first 2 days off

I have extremely heavy periods and bad cramping as well, but so far I haven't missed a shift because of my period. Even if it's the first day, I'll just cut the string off a tampon and remember to change it once or twice during the night, and remember to drink lots of water. I've noticed that dancing significantly decreases my cramps (physical activity and distractions often help like that), but sometimes I do get an awful cramp in the middle of a shift. I just try to shrug it off or go wait it out in the bathroom for a bit. My customers haven't seemed to care much about the bloating or anything, although one did assume I had kids because of it (lol).

But if you really don't think you can manage, don't push yourself. The best thing about this job is that the schedules are flexible and often light. If you get called in and don't feel up to it, don't worry about it. I'm sure the managers won't mind.

When I was diehard for cash I just cut the string and changed it constantly. I don't like working when I feel bloated though so I'd recommend water pills, coffee, and pain killers...whatever gets you through the night. I don't think it's a big deal to take those days off if you can afford it though. That's the beauty of this job. After I was more financially stable I never worked the week of my period.

I agree with the other posts that physical activity helps with cramps and cutting the tampon string. You might have to fish for it, but as long as you don't cut the string all the way, you should be fine.

Instead of a tampon you can also try a menstrual cup. They're a small silicone cup that you shove in the vagina and it'll collect the blood, and you can leave it in there for 8-12 hours, depending on your flow. It's reusable (I know, icky) and it'll save money in the long run (if you look after it properly, it can last 5 years).

Stripper- and pole-wise, some people swear by it, and for others it does leak a bit, especially with all the movement. I've personally actually no experience with it, even though I do have one, because shoving anything in my stupid vagina hurts (finally seeing a doctor about it yaaaay and that's probably TMI for everyone reading right now), but yea. The menstrual cup.

Added bonus: no chance of toxic shock syndrome since it collects blood rather than absorbing it, unlike the humble tampon

Thanks for the tips guys! I did get invited to work and I decided to decline. Bless those of you who work at that time of the month! It's not just the pain but I also get all swollen, like my belly and legs, and this would be my first time doing anything like this... I'm kinda nervous as it is, so I figured it'd be best if I'm totally comfortable the first time. The boss didn't respond to my text declining, so I'm hoping he doesn't stop inviting me over declining my first shift

Glad you're going with what's comfortable. Did you explain to your boss why you aren't coming in? It's probably best to at least make up an excuse like being sick, and make sure they know that you want to come in still at another time (since you're new and all).
