Default Custom Customer Keeps Messaging.. and Messaging.. And..

I do videos for c4s and the like, and take customs. Custom videos are great, they're so easy. Customers tell me what they want, pay up, I film, and done.

So a new customer contacts me about a video. Awesome. We swap a few emails to go over the details, he pays me, and then asks that I wait because he has some additional ideas. My responses have been short and sweet since. It's been what I feel is a ridiculous amount of back and forth emails, and he wants to keep talking about every detail. I'm ready to spell it out- I'm busy, he can contact me when he knows exactly what he wants and I'll make his video then. If I cammed or did phone, I would tell him to contact me there so I would be reimbursed for my time. Any more messages from him and I'll feel like his payment has already been used in full.

This is a new one for me. I can be pretty blunt and bitchy (it's my persona), but is there a better way of handling this?

Make a policy that once you receive payment, major changes will not be considered, ever. Sure, changing the color of the outfit is fine--but 80 tasks like that and you'll be ticked.

Re: this customer. Send him an email, right now, that says 'I'm making the original video we agreed upon. I generally do not accept changes after payment and I'm sorry I made this seem like an exception. If you want further changes/variations, you'll have to pay for another custom video. It will be ready on [insert date]. I'll send it to you then. Have a lovely day.' Proceed to ignore all of his whining emails and just do the video to be done.

Lesson learned: customers given an inch tend to take a mile. I've been forced to delete all of my indy skype show contacts after shows because they'll pull this 'hey bb, what's up? how r u? what're u doing? *giant spiel about his day* what do u think?' crap constantly and not purchase a show. We aren't friends just because you saw me naked once bros. You'll be contacts again when you pay for another show.

The other thing is that the guy knows exactly what he's doing. He knows he's being disrespectful of your time. And he's getting his rocks off for free by discussing the details of other things he wants. Free dirty talk via email and he can hold that he 'already paid' over your head until that video is finished (which he keeps changing to avoid losing his freeloader privilege). Yeah, ignore that sucker.

I usually outline that I will take an x amount of detailed requests for video when I have someone like this, preferably point form. This stops the epic paragraph novels these guys love writing out. And if they are nitpicking then I will tell them please get back to me with a final condensed draft of what they would like; long drawn out requests, re-edits and so on are too specific/or wishy washy (depending) and confusing for me to keep up with and remember while shooting. If they are repeatedly writing you back, say you are having a difficult time keeping up all the details and messages, that you want one final message and write you when they are ready to send you that. Period. Don't feel bad saying that. There is nothing wrong with being firm if you're being polite, especially if someone is screwing around with your time and will be pissy because you forgot a detail from email #7/13. That way you are off the hook for ridiculous list of specific requests like 19 different camera angles and you forget one etc.

You can also write a blurb and save it. If you get people writing you in the future about customs, send them an email stating here is a copy of my rules for a custom video. Please write me specify in point form, x amount of requests, I do/don't offer this, rates, and so on, that way it saves you from this sort of a headache in the future.

I tell customers like this to think about the order and then send all their ideas in one single email. Simple as that to cut them off.

However, these annoying guys will also be the type to later email every single day, several times a day; "Is my video ready yet? How's it going?"
So ugh, annoyers gonna annoy. My customers like this are harmless pesterers, who end up being decent customers, but they have to be constantly cut short or they will monopolize your time.

Once you've agreed to make the video with the details provided BEFORE YOU AGREED that's the video that gets made. Decide what changes you think are still worth the money he has paid or will pay and tell him that's what he will get.

I've had people send me the initial email and we agree on everything that he's said and what he will pay. After I say yes that's fine, he will go, oh hey can you do this too? If it's something I can easily do I tell him that's fine but if he keeps adding stuff to it I tell them that I am not willing to make those changes but that I will make the video with THESE details.

I repeat back to the customer when I tell them I can do it.

    Example:

    Dear customer,

I can make this video for you:

15 minutes - 3 days turn around time
    Solo masturbation
    glass toy
    using your name
    wearing this outfit

for $100, the price we agreed on. How does this sound?

You need to put your foot down and be stern with him and let him know that you've got other custom videos/work to do and that you're willing to make a video with these details for that price, but you will not accept any changes. You don't need to be bitchy, just firm and don't budge or he will keep doing it. If he still doesn't get the hint or gets angry, make the video he first suggested and send it to him and cut all ties.

    Genius!

You've inspired me to remove everyone from my Skype list today. <3
