Question Going back to work; thinking about using my real name.

I'm going back after a break of several months next week, and I'm thinking about just using my real name, Camilla. I like it better than any of the fake names I've used over the years, and the older I get, the closer my work persona(s) get to who I really am anyway. I work in my hometown, and most locals already know my name from more-vanilla jobs I've had anyway. I don't use facebook/twitter/instagram/geocities/whatever, so that's not an issue. I'm 31, never having human children, and out to all friends and family.

Has anyone on this forum worked under her real name?

    Please share any relevant experiences.

I've never used my real name at the club but it's pretty easy to follow my cyber crumbs if you type in "stripper" "alligator" and "Philadelphia". I'm not too worried though.Name: IMG_20150323_041406.jpg

I don't because I have a unique name but I know a lot of girls who do. It's never been an issue.

I used my real name because I was too lazy to come up with a stage name. Most of the customers and other dancers/staff assumed it was a stage name anyway, so it really was NBD.

^I've worked with girls who have and customers don't believe them and do the "what's your real name" bit. It's not something I would do due to possibly being outed, but if that's not an issue for you I guess you just have to decide whether you feel it's "safe". If you are worried, try using a nick name instead like Milla, Camile/Cam/Cammi etc? I've used nick names in the past and had no issues. Using a stage name is fun IMO-but if your actual name suits you you are lucky .

Honestly, about half of the girls at my club used their real name. "Camilla" sounds enough like it COULD be a stage name that it might work (Instead of something like Barbara, or who knows. No offense to the Barbara's out there - just the first thing that came to mind!). If you aren't worried about your work life and your personal life bleeding together... Then my outlook on stage names is just that if you can rock it - go for it! It should be something that makes YOU feel good working.

I use a 'real' stage name. Easy to remember. Several girls I've worked with have used their actual names though. It's all over FB and Twitter too. No one believes the name you give them. They always say, "Ok, what about your real name now?"

I know girls who use their real name, I personally wouldn't (afraid of being stalked) but most customers will probably assume it's a fake name anyway.

You'll still get asked what your "real" name is. I've known plenty of dancers who have used their real names, especially if it was stripper-y sounding. Paris, Story, Kenya, and Brooklyn are some that come to mind.

I danced under my real name for years. I like my name. It made sense at the time. It was fine. Then, at some point, I thought it would be better to have a seperate persona. So I did that.

The most annoying thing about dancing under my real name was the endless stream of customer questions/interrogation... "LOL, no... that's not your real name, tell me your real name... blah blah blah." I felt like my brain was imploding. I absolutely KNEW that I was telling the truth. But customers refused to believe me... and as a result would keep bugging me about it. As an honest person, that really bothered me. It seemed more sensible to invent a fake name and actually fudge the truth since I was being accused of having a fake name anyway. Whatever.

A fake name and, consequently, a fake "real name" are tools that I utilize in my hustle. It is a way to make people think that I am revealing a secret to them and only them. Even though the line of questioning is nearly identical from 40% or more of the customers, they feel special when I tell them that my name isn't real. They love the idea that they're in on some intimate secret. I don't really feel bad about it... a stripper with a fake name seems to be part of their fantasy... otherwise, why would they press the issue so much? I could tell the truth till I'm blue in the face or fight and argue with guys (I actually showed my ID once out of sheer frustration, I know, I know... that was stupid... luckily nothing bad happened). A few years in, and I was too tired to bother with that nonsense. When it comes to fake names, I'll embody the stripper stereotype every night as long as I get to the VIP faster than I would otherwise. But that's just me.

As far as advice, I say go for it.

I've worked with dancers who have used their real names and they all did fine. I think using/claiming to use a real name can be beneficial in terms of building rapport and not seeming like you're all about money (even though you really are!). Some club environments are perfect for making money as a "real girl" type, especially the neighborhood ones.

Lol I knew a girl who had a stripper sounding name so she used a normal name (jessica) as her stage name

Thanks to everyone for the insights, especially Sophia.

I think I'll give it a shot tomorrow night (my first night working at any job in months!), and just see how it goes. I think if I introduce myself by my real first name, and then a DJ announces me by an old super-strippery stage name, I can use that to my advantage. And though I've never really used a fake real name before, I'll come up with one (Edith? Agatha? Eugenie?) for those rare men who demand such a thing yet seem ready to spend money.

And I will try to pose with my stripper hair/makeup, my machete, and at least one vicious-looking dog before I go ask for an old job back tomorrow.

In any case, I'm planning on working 2-3 weeknight shifts at a dive until I rebuild my upper-body and ankle strength and lose 5-10 pounds. I can always end the experiment when I switch over to a nicer club.

I've got no fear of being outed either, so I back up your decision to go for it!

I actually plan to get a DBA some time in the near future (next year or two, once I'm back on my feet) as part of building up my business persona, so I think it'd be hellaciously funny for a customer to deny my stage name and I can be like "oh, yeah? Here's my card."
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.
