    Default A month long appointment?

    Hello beauties

I have a situation I've never encountered before. I have a client that wants to take me to the Europe for a month. I have spent overnights with him, know some of his background and trust that he won't be a problem is the sense that I'll be kidnapped or something of the like. His overnight sessions are more on the busy side if you understand. He mentions that he will be in some meetings during the day and understands the need for personal time and time to explore.

For longer sessions my usual rate is
    a flat "A" amount
+ the cost of a 4 hour session for each additional day (half of A...)

Er... this would add up to a very high amount all together for a month and my rate structure overall encourages longer sessions.
I guess I'm wondering if you guys had any input of what a month would be, either for you or hypothetically what you think you would charge.
How you felt during extended time away?
Would you charge a flat rate... plus two weeks? or what do you think?
I guess it might be unfair because I'm not putting my rate out there.

I would also consider time away from my home and my rent costs/ bills while I'm away. possibly daily food/entertainment costs for myself during the day on top of that.

    Any thoughts?

Maybe the cost of 5 "additional day" appointments per week, instead of 7?
Bleh idk. I'll keep running numbers -_-

I guess I could also shorten the trip and charge full amount... I wonder if that might work, actually... Haha Just thinking out loud.

If he can afford to take you away to Europe for a month, money isn't likely a big concern.

He probably has a ballpark range of what he is willing to pay. Maybe ask him what he has in mind - it could be a lot higher than you think.

Working over time is meant to be paid better than normal - not less.

^^^ agree with Amberfly on this one. Even if a girl is doing 'overnights', if she's doing them close to home she still has a few hours available to tend to personal business, to line up tomorrow's 'clients' etc. Taking you far from home for an entire month, with an implied expectation that you will be at his 'beckon call' on an unpredictable schedule that works around his business meetings, will totally disrupt your personal life as well as interfering with your business relations regarding existing other 'clients' and marketing yourself to new 'clients'. This will undoubtedly have a negative financial impact on your short term future earnings once the month with this one 'client' is over.

Thus, to 'break even' financially, in addition to charging your 'usual rate' for every day that you are not at home and not able to offer your services to other 'clients', you should also recoup enough additional money to compensate for the likely fact that you are going to lose some other existing 'clients' due to your being 'out of circulation' for an entire month thus having to at least partially 'rebuild your clientele' once the month is over.

Personally speaking, taking yourself 'out of circulation' for more than a week involves enough unknown future financial risk factors to be cause for worry.

Calculate how much you will get on a good day here. multiple that by 28. You have a good estimate for your bottom line price.

Spending that much time with a client is too much. For me even spending that much time with someone I like is hard. Me personally, I wouldn't even consider a month with a client.

I would be sure to figure out all the money details in advance. For safety sake, ask for an itinerary in advance, with hotel name, phone numbers, room numbers, flight numbers so that you can let someone know where you are the whole time. Also, make sure he knows that you will need time for yourself. Maybe even ask for a separate room to emphasize that this is a business deal and not a month long date. Be safe and who knows, it could be a lot of fun.

My thoughts: Hang in there. LOL that is far too long with a person let alone a client...A month long job should have amazing compensation because it can be exhausting depending on the person. Best of luck to you!

I had an offer for a two week trip and was nervous about the length of time so we did a week instead - it turned out awesome and I wish I had done the second week - so you just never know

Thank you ladies for putting my business and time in perspective, I completely agree.

Its a confidence issue for me, I sometimes am still "shy" about it. My rates are at the upper middle, but longer term appointments, when i look at the number on paper... Its definitely about confidence, being able to assert that and what its worth and what i bring to the table.

xoxox thank you for your responses, its helped a lot and given me something to work on

I'm interested to see how this turns out for you ChickenTuna. As usual, some great professional advice given. One rule of thumb, for all my own business negotiations is that (a) I know my price I'm willing to work so I'm smooth when I hear a verbal offer and (b) I (just as was advised by several posters) ask the leading question of "what did you have in mind" whenever practical and get them to make the first offer. This is only guidance and is not always practical, with some people you get a sense they will low ball anyway and you don't want to waste your time or see the bar set too low - in these cases I assert my highest price I want.

A big piece of advise I will give you is don't trust a client too much just because he is a regular.

There are too many sharks in this business waiting for you to put your guard down. Be safe even with regulars and good luck.
