Default Customer shooting unauthorized video of dancer at the Club

A dancer friend of mine asked me for some advice about this and I was really at a loss as to what to tell her. It came to her attention that a regular of hers was filming her with his cell phone while he sat at the bar and he had been doing so for quite awhile. My friend was really upset and nervous about that because of the potential that he could post this more publicly and she asked me if there is anything she can do to stop him from filming. I suggested telling the club manager to keep an eye on him as the club does have a no cell phone photo policy, but barring that, there is little I thought that could be done. Anyone have any better advice for me to give her?

Tell her to contact a lawyer. Then print out the article where a guy who owned a revenge porn site got 18 years in prison for sex videos men posted on his site for revenge without proper release forms , Id to ruin girls lives.

Flip the script on how you can sue him & get major money for filming you without consent & uploading onto the web. Then you can also sue the club for not having bouncers & employees that did NOT stop him from filming. It was their job to do so.

Lots of lawsuits & major $$$ if I was her. Tell her to march right up to him and demand his name, address and where he works so she can sue him. That will scare him enough to shit himself.

In todays world there is no privacy, you can't strip, do porn, cam without the world knowing it. Get over it ladies. Plus all people who watch porn, soon what they watch on free tube sites will be outed too, so the men also will have to face their dirty little secrets be known too.

Sam - we're not aware of him posting the videos anywhere at the moment, so a lawsuit may be a little premature, but the confronting thing is something to think about, he may be scared by that. thanks

Problem is that once he's posted a video online, it's too late. You never know who else has saved or shared it at that point. By nipping it in the bud now, it could prevent any video from surfacing on the internet.

He is shooting content against her will. That has the potential to out her, ruin her reputation, cut off vanilla career paths and put her safety in danger.

He knew that before he started to film but his own needs above hers. Thats cruel. He doesn't care about her or needs iota.

It isn't even JUST about her. Who else has he filmed? And gotten away with. That content can be saved, shared and potentially around for ever.

This is about taking a stand for a vulnerable group/person. Give her the information. Please.

    Are there copyright issues here?

Amber - couldn't agree more, that's why I'm asking here for ideas on how to advise her. The only info I have is what she (my dancer friend) told me. I just want to give her some ideas to help her deal with it as she is freaking out.

slowpoke - I don't think there are copyright issues until and unless he posts something, but I can't be sure about that. He could just be using it for himself. I fear the only thing she can do at the moment is confront him which may not achieve the desired result.

In NYS believe there are privacy laws against this, or at least it is actionable.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
