Does it actually help you keep the clients appointments? How much would you charge upfront and how do I go about getting the deposit in advance?

I am fed up with the cancellations. Just today, I confirmed all of the appointments 2 days before my trip so I wouldn't end up wasting my time AND money going on tour seeing pretty much nobody so I booked/paid for my travel costs after they confirmed. Now that it is 1 day before the trip, 2 people back out and the number of clients is already low. I might as well have stayed home and made the same amount!!! I rescheduled my last trip to this area because the number of people was so low that it wasn't worth it. Now it turns out after the cancellations that I am only seeing these very same people who tried to book last time. Lol, Sorry for venting! The cost of travel, hotels, taxi, food, and sitter is outrageous.

You can ask for 50% up front, maybe in combination with a small 'discount for prebooking' (or add extra time). Many guys refuse to pay in advance and it can lead to 'bad press' for broken appointments.

I work with a full upfront payment system in exchange for priority time choices for the early bookers. No discounts.
It will drive you crazy touring without any security-dig your heels in and expect it.
Start with your regulars and build from there.
Your biggest obstacle is credibility with upfront payments.

Interesting. So you ask for the full payment upfront in prepaid form? That sounds amazing if it actually works and guys are willing to do that.

It's very hard to believe the large number of people who get "sick" and cancel last minute anymore. Just this morning I was cancelled on 30 minutes before the appointment so I am now fully ready for nobody and woke up at 5:30am to be on time for this with 2 hours of sleep lol. Funnnnnn.

UGH thats not cool. I sympathize.

Yeah I do, its a hard road but worth it.
You have to be really strong with them and willing to "lose" money the first few tours.
Basically it took me a year of cracking the whip really fucking hard on all prospective customers locally and on tour to make them understand I wasnt going to be available at the drop of a hat.
Now, I offer priority spaces to pre paid customers and the rest can ring my phone off the hook until they figure it out.

My tours got so insanely busy a few years ago that I had to make a change for my sanity.
The phone would get rung out to the point where I was charging my phone constantly, from guys who knew I was coming but left it till the last fucking minute.

At the end of the day you teach your customers how to treat you.
If you are good enough they will learn to prioritize just like they do with things like football games and "guy stuff" that they pre plan for months ahead.
    Hope this helps xo
