Default My eyes became sensitive to makeup. :(

I must've developed sensitivity or something. I don't know if it's my eyeshadow (Urban Decay) or my eyeliner. They both sort of make my eyes teary. My eyelids burn without the use of primer when I try eyeshadow, and even with primer, my eyes feel very stiff and puffy. I can't go all night like this! Does anyone else have sensitive eyes? What eyeshadows do you use?

    Mine are very sensitive.

Make sure to clean your brushes frequently & never share with anyone. Also eye makeup does have a shelf life. No matter how much you spent on it - throw it away after it expires.

All else fails, use makeup from Sephora most of their stuff is free from parabens and chemicals that break you out. Or switch brands try hypoallergenic eye makeup.

I've had this happen - I even got weird dry patches above and around my eyes. I take breaks from wearing eyeshadow and stopped using most makeup removers. I use coconut oil instead and wipe gently.

yes. i've gone on a 5 month makeup hiatus to give my skin a rest, and now my eyes are very sensitive..even the tiniest bit of commercial eyeshadow makes them ache. and honestly if you live in the US the makeup is not regulated like at all unfortunately, there's tons of shit in there that's not good for our skin and especially delicate eye area. so i've started making my own shadows mixing different things like arrowroot powder ( which is a great base, also a great dry shampoo) and cocoa powder, beet root powder, any kind of natural powder in various colors. you can also make your own eyeliner from activated charcoal and various oils. its not an exact science, and i'm still experimenting! of course there are organic makeup on the market i'm sure, you could try and find some if you can

Yes. My eyelids get scaly and burn. Happens out of no where. Yesterday when I got up I looked like I'd been crying for hours. I use milani and mac shadows. And I use urban decay liner and I have a nyc one. Neem cream helps and aloe. On your days off put those on your eyelids and take a claritin.

I like plain, no-alcohol aloe gel.

I'll look into aloe gel & claritin. NYX is actually my go to brand. It still burns, but not bloody bad like UD.

I wonder if those anti-allergy eye drops work for this.

I'm wondering if it might be a carmine allergy. Carmine is made from cochineal beetles and is used to color some foods and cosmetics red, pink, purple. I have to carry an Epi-Pen in case I accidentally ingest it because my allergy has gotten worse with each accidental exposure. It might be worthwhile to check the ingredients labels on your makeup, especially if you are using any purple/plum tones. I've even found it in some shades of brown! If I get any near my eyes they turn bright red, itch, and swell up. As long as I avoid it I am fine.

Anti eye allergy drops can help, especially with itching. Cold compresses can help too, and feel soothing. I hope you can get to the bottom of this and feel better!

This happens to me too, but I didn't realize it was a problem. I wear contacts so my eyes are in a permanent state of aggravation. I figured it was just one of those things!

Any liquid eyeliner will make my eyelids burn, and lash glue makes my eyes redden and water. Generally, I don't have a problem with shadows. I use Laura Mercier, Hourglass, and Prescriptives.
