    Default Tanning without looking weird

I've been considering tanning if only just to get some color since my job requires me indoors like 8/10ths of the day. I look like someone conjured me up. I should say BOOOOOO! How much tanning is ok and how much is to much? All i want is to look like i see the sun time on time (Before you ask, i do, i do, but it tends to be going from here to there).

I would suggest a spray tabor self tanner. You don't want to cause skin damage by going to a tanning bed.

8/10 of the day indoors. Let's say 12 hours of sunshine in a day, that's like 10 hours. I'm taking your question seriously and it sounds like you need to get out in the sun. Take a 2 week cruise to somewhere tropical. Read a favorite book by the pool while drinking a cold margarita.

Umm, skip the tanning bed. It's bad for you and way too intense of a tan.

I'd suggest trying Kiehl's tanning lotion. It's for face and body. It leaves my skin a little oily, but it doesn't smell or stain your clothes nor will it give you neon orange palms. It's really subtle and it'll take you from salamander-colored to human-colored.

^^^ allow me to 'qualify' that point a bit. Commercial Salon 32 lamp tanning beds are indeed 'intense' ... because the Salon owners bought them based on being able to cycle through a maximum number of customers in the shortest possible time.

However, there are also lower 'intensity' tanning beds available. I bought one of these 16 lamp tanning beds for myself a few years back.

I typically used my tanning bed for 10-15 minutes every 2-3 days to maintain an actual natural looking tan. That's about 1/2 the continuous exposure time, and definitely 1/2 the light 'intensity', of your typical Salon tanning session in a Commercial tanning bed ... thus just 1/4th of the stress on my skin.

When deciding to buy my own home tanning bed, I added up the costs in both time and money of the home tanning bed versus going the Salon route. The Salon route required me to drive to the Salon and back twice a week, putting extra miles on my car as well as burning extra gas. The Salon session costs weren't exactly a bargain. But perhaps most important, not using a Salon also saved me the time and money of taking one shower BEFORE leaving for the tanning salon, and then taking ANOTHER shower after getting home from the tanning salon to wash off the tanning oil. With a tanning bed at home, I can jump in first thing in the morning for a few minutes, and then take a single shower.

All in all, buying my own home tanning bed easily 'paid for itself' in two years or less. And with all the gov't 'scare tactics', there are a lot of second-hand tanning beds now available at much lower prices than new ... even if you also spend money to buy a new set of lamps for it.

PS I hate 'bottle' tans. I have tried chemical tanning agents on occasion, and with my skin they have always produced an 'orange' tinted tan !!!

As to the overall risks of skin cancer, the stats on Commercial tanning beds are shaky to start with ... mostly because there wasn't much 'enforcement' in the past regarding maximum length / frequency of salon sessions. Then add in the usual 'uncontrolled' variables, like a particular person's genetic disposition, additional solar exposure outside of salon tanning sessions, etc. And as mentioned above, the stats are all based on high 'intensity' commercial tanning bed light output levels. Does 1/2 the light 'intensity' cut the risk in half ? By a factor of 4, or perhaps a factor of 10 ? Nobody has studied this.

Also, while no studies have yet been released that I know of, nothing says that 'bottle' tanning agents are 100% safe either !!!

Whatever you do, do not use St. Tropez self tanners! I tried them the other day and took that shit right back!

I recommend Jergens Natural Glow. It gives a subtle progression of colour that maximises after abt 1 wk of daily use. Absorbs pretty quickly, no oily leftovers on skin, fades just as gradually, so once you hit the top-colour point you only need to re-apply it abt every other day.

^ Just don't get the skin firming one, it's a bitch to rub in and leaves a whitish cast to your skin for a little while. But otherwise Jergens is good.

Even though there are good self tanning and spray tan solutions today, I don’t think they can match having a good natural tan. I love to tan outdoor as well, but tanning bed is just so convenient! You may not want any lines either
I suggest that you start tanning in a tanning bed, if you can’t spend time tanning outdoor. I'm pretty sure you'll love the feeling and results right away. Tanning bed is more efficent time wise and you should be going 3-4 times a week until you get the desired color. Then you should be fine with a couple of visits a week to maintain. Another great advantage og real tanning (tanning bed or outdoor) is that I always get such a good wellbeing experience, feeling so fresh and good compared to spray tan etc wich only makes me wonder how to keep the tanner from not straining...
