    Default Travel Fees

What do you other ladies charge for moderate travel fees? I live in an area that is within semi-reasonable driving distance of a lot of areas where I know there are few to no local providers. I'm willing to make the drive, but I don't know what I should charge for fees. I would also want it to be a minimum of a certain number of hours, even before tacking on a travel fee, because I'm not driving 3 hours for a 1 or 2 hour appointment that I have to turn around and drive 3 hours home from. Obviously, if it was farther, I could discuss putting me up in a hotel/my overnight rates, but I don't think that's what this guy is looking for. It almost seems excessive to ask someone a few hours away to book multiple hours and also tack on an exorbitant travel fee - but at the same time, one appointment with him would take up my whole damn day so obviously I should be compensated...

    Thoughts?

I totally feel you on being compensated for travel time. I think you should too especially if you can't work/book clients/etc. while traveling (ex. if you are driving). Maybe you can think of a percentage range based on your hourly fee??? At the least I would think of gas fill up costs and costs of basic car maintenance (putting more miles on your car means you have to get oil change and tires balanced sooner)

I would think if he would already know whats up about paying more since you traveled from far away to come see him vs being local.

Within 20miles no fee. More than 20 miles distance I charge $50 per 50 miles

If he would rather avoid the travel fee or have a shorter appointment he could always come to you.

I can see why it seems excessive but any other trades person would charge a call out and minimum rate. Its business.

Somewhat similar but slightly different situation with someone else now, and I didn't feel like making a separate thread:

I have a regular client who does amateur photography and would like to get into amateur videography. The other day I met him for a photoshoot where he provided most of the props and clothes and he paid me my normal hourly rate. We discussed future projects, and he wants to do a 6-hour day that I would have to travel about 2 1/2 hours to the site. He's asking me to quote him a price to be compensated for a day like that. My normal "6 hour" rate would be 1200 (due to "block booking" discounts). Considering the travel involved (and the time of day he's asking), I was considering asking for slightly more. But since this is purely photos and video, I curiously went on Model Mayhem to look for average hourly model rates and stumbled upon a thread where people were complaining that even $100/hr is way too much for even a top-notch model.

I'm used to being compensated a certain way for my time, and he was willing to pay my normal rate this past week for just photos. But I don't want to put him off or be delusionally greedy by quoting a super high price for non-escort time. Then again, legally speaking, it's not supposed to matter what you do with my "time," right?

This is such a different situation, I'm not sure what to do.

In general my rate is my rate regardless of what he chooses to do with the time - I live further out so for me 30 minutes or so is no travel fee - if they are just a little ways out of that range I charge 15 to 25 extra - depending on current gas prices / time of day - I despise rush hour traffic -- couple of hours away and multi-hours $50 an hour is reasonable TF

Great question.. I have to drive 2 hrs to my "base city" so beyond that in state I tell them I have to have 2 hr minimum. But I find that most really want an hour and I am asked to drive 4+ hours each way for the 1 hr appt. Geez... I have not yet asked for additional fee to drive to them. But I get asked to fly/drive all over the country without guarantee of appts or time involved to which I tell them I have to have a minimum based on location.
My base city has outrageous rates for hotels which I have to use since out of town so my rate has to be higher to just cover that which turns off a few from longer visits.

I charged $60 or so for an hour or less of driving and if they mention it I say, "it's just a tank of gas" and smile.
