+1 Marie Antoinette (Sofia Coppola)
+1 Quills
Also: Stardust (early 2000's) Princess Bride (late 1980's) and anything Shakespeare (Except for Ethan Hawke's Hamlet, costumes are modern).

Hamlet with Mel Gibson. Also, book is a favorite.

Harem Suare and The Last Emperor, yay!

I was also going to suggest The Tudors and Barry Lyndon. Anyone watching Wolf Hall on PBS right now?I would recommend that. They're already into the 5 th episode. Only a few left. It's a mini series. Amazing acting, cast, script and costumes. Damien Lewis, Mark Rylance and many actors from other British Productions. You might also want to watch a movie with Mark Rylance called Angels and Insects. There are beautiful costumes and it's an interesting movie. Also, maybe Rome the series from about ten years ago from HBO.

Also, The French Lieutenents Woman. One of my many fave movies with the "best" actors, Jeremy Irons and Meryl Streep. And a wonderful French movie named Ridicule taken place during the French Revolution.

How did I miss this thread?! Awesome sauce!
Some of these were already named, but my faves are:
The Other Boleyn Girl
The Hours
The Piano
From Hell
The Secret Garden
A Little Princess
Count of Monte Cristo
Black Beauty
Midnight in Paris
"Dancing tables, making deals with devils like a drunk beauty queen"

Hitchcock's "Rebecca" - so good you won't mind it's in black and white. Stays close to the plot of the book. It's a story about how someone's evil can live from beyond the grave, without any supernatural aspect.

What!?! No one has mentioned Outlander?? That series is amazing!

I watched on you tube, Rise & Fall of Versailles parts I, II, & III. Part III is about Marie Antoinette.

"Man for All Seasons", maybe the best movie I've ever seen, and that's saying something about personal integrity. Four Stars.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

An updated version of " Poldark " is now showing on PBS. Fortunately I get 3 different PBS stations ( NYC , Long Island and N.J. ) so although I missed it last night to watch
"True Detective " it's on tonight on another PBS station.

I thought "Becket" was better with a fun and interesting plot on 'you know the whole transforming of a man based on "honour of God" themes rather than his boss (the king). I also dig Peter O'Toole in it. Awesome actor back in his heyday doing period pieces. Really liked him in 'The Lion in Winter' as well with Katharine Hepburn as Queen Eleanor.
My favorites are:
The Illusionist
The Prestige
Neverland (2011, 2 episode mini series, while not technically a period piece, it is a great take on the Peter Pan origin story)
Doctor Who (While not entirely historically accurate, they favor Victorian Era England and the costumes are awesome)

I watched Beckett last night, great movie.

I made it through the first part of "Lawrence of Arabia". What a great movie!! It's so epic.

Recently watched the first series of The Knick, set in New York in 1900. It's good! Ignore Clive Owens dodgy accent and its very good... looking forward to the second series.

If you're down for a TV series, Magnificent Century is a cool multi-season Turkish soap-opera about Hurrem Sultana (Roxelana).
