    Thumbs up Plastic surgery/medical tourism

Has anyone on here traveled out of the country to save money on plastic surgery? And what was your experience? Thanks

I'm glad you had a good experience. I've heard of a decent surgery center in Dominican Republic. And a dancer who had good experience in Venezuela. I have a plastic surgeon that I'm happy with and I've had a few procedures with him. But I'd like to get some more lipo and possibly a necklift. And maybe a Brazilian butt lift. So all of these procedures will cost me a fortune in the U.S. Any help is much appreciated!

I've known quite a few girls who had 'work done' outside the USA. But their reasons mostly involved wanting a type of procedure or a type of medical device which was not FDA approved, thus unavailable locally.

If the only reason for considering having 'work done' outside your home country is cost savings, consider what you might gain ( saving some money up front ) versus what you might lose ( having to spend a LOT of money for short notice after-care if post-op problems should suddenly develop ). Keep in mind that travelling from the UK to continental Europe is quick, cheap, and easy ... whereas travelling from the US to any foreign country except Mexico and Canada is not so quick, and definitely not cheap.

^^^ what region of the US ? Northeast ? West Coast ?

Also, in terms of minimizing costs of US plastic surgery, it's often possible to achieve significant savings by driving a couple of hours away from major US cities to utilize a plastic surgeon located in a smaller city with a lower cost of living. Same is also sometimes possible by hopping over a state line.

I am actually considering travelling to the US at some point for a redo, possibly with a lift. I like what I've seen and heard of Dr Dewire. The cost of everything including travel etc. isn't something I can do anytime soon though but I would rather wait and save.

Sorry for the threadjack, I guess I'm making the point that the cost is one of the least important factors if I'm going under the knife, as Melonie has said, there's a bigger chance you'll end up spending a lot more long-term if corners are being cut.

Tom DeWire does excellent work. But if you're not already located on the US east coast, probably not worth the extra travel and accomodation expenses.

I had dental implants done in Bosnia, while visiting family.

The cost was 5,000 instead of the quote of 25,000 I was told it would be in Canada. The facility was modern, the staff spoke English and provided care that was comparable to other dental procedures I have had in North America.

I stayed there for a whole afterwards, for the aftercare, which I think made me more comfortable with the decision.

I would go back for sure for other plastic surgeries, if I ever want them in the future.

^Wow that's a massive difference in cost. I've heard very good things about dental care in Poland and Hungary too.

Yeah I have heard the same. There's a bunch of dancers at my work from Eastern Europe who have had BA done in Poland,Hungary and Serbia and they look great and are very satisfied.

I think the key thing would be making sure you have enough time to stay afterwards in case something does happen and that you have a place to comfortably recover.

There obviously have been situations of procedures abroad gone wrong but I think that a lot of it has been hyped up since it's in the interest of the medical community here to protect it's business.

Anyway, thanks for your advice Layla!
Not exactly sure what you're referring to but I answered the original question and then added something else I thought was relevant. I even acknowledged it was a bit off topic and I was speaking for myself not lecturing. It wasn't meant to be negative about other countries at all. Not really a big deal, definitely not meant as a 'lecture'. Never mind...

I went to Belgium from the uk to get my boobs. Many girls from the uk do this, he even does consults in London.
I've met girls who got theirs done in Brazil and Uruguay and they looked really good.

It makes me feel as though I don't even want to be on is site anymore.
I'm sorry but what are you talking about? Is someone saying something and then deleting their posts? Because I don't see anyone putting down any country.

^I thought Nyla19 meant me because I reiterated that I would be careful about where I went for surgery.

I can see how maybe it sounded like I was being all 'Ooh no don't go to other countries, they have no idea what they are doing' but I really wasn't. That's the problem with stuff getting lost in translation online I guess!

every country has botched surgeries - I have seen 3 girls that have Franken Boobs from the same doctor in my city - he is cheap as hell and that keeps him with clients I guess - I would never ever ever recommend anyone base a surgery decision on price alone - Not saying anyone here is - Just Saying - I have a transgender friend who has been going out of the USA for procedures for the past couple of years - she checked him out thoroughly and has been totally satisfied with his work - she has booked a full gender reassignment with him for next year - Do Your homework no matter where you go

I erased a few of my posts because I rambled a bit too much with a few posts. I'm maybe a bit too sensitive to post on here a lot. I post threads and I guess I feel attacked a bit at times. I was a bit annoyed at Melonie for lecturing to me. No biggie! I'm over it!
