Default The power of achieving small goals.

We often see many threads encouraging us to push ourselves to bigger and better things contrasting with those threads asking for help on how to deal with life's little (or large) interference's and still make more money. Many times the answers are along the lines or work more hours, work a better hustle and work in more places (ie, start a website or clips for sale) but its easy to get in over your head when trying to go from 0 to 60 in a few months so I felt it was worth mentioning that sometimes the best thing to do is just set one small goal for yourself at a time and make it a habit. It could be something as simple as one extra hour a day every day you work. Once that becomes a habit add another.

There is tons of studies that confirm that habits form after 21 days. I find with my more simple goals I can make a habit of doing it in about a week, but for some others I need to push myself for 21 days before I just do it naturally.

I started with wanting to work one hour more a day until I was doing 5 hours min each days. This was easy since I normally did about 4 hours but I really made myself sitck to that extra hour each day until a 5 hour day felt normal. I have also set more complex small goals like learning to be less chatty with freeloaders. I am a friendly type and I like to talk but I wanted to streamline my hustle and focus on the spenders rather then spend 2 of 5 hours just hanging out chatting so I set a goal that I will respond to 3 to 5 lines of their typed text in my chat room and I try to close the sale. If they dont go prvt. or excl. at this point I ignore them. My current small goal is to get on cam one hour earlier each day, I want my day to start at 8am instead of the 12pm start I am currently doing.

Over the last year and a half I have made many MANY great habits out of small goals and I can honestly say that I have doubled my hourly wage over the last year and a half on cam and that is a huge huge deal!

I wonder who else finds working in small goals more effective then just trying to go for everything all at once and what types of small goals you have set for yourself? I would love to hear your success or failure stories.

I currently do not try for the small goals, but rather try and jump on in for the large ones and usually end up failing. After reading your post, I am going to start trying for smaller goals and see if that helps me get my ass in gear. Thanks for this !!!

My problem is setting too many goals at once. I'm pleased with the outcome of setting these goals but I never quite reach them. I don't know how to not set a bunch of goals because I want so much! I only have a few goals in mind for the month of May. My biggest obstacle will me changing the schedule I work. I'm getting enough sleep but I'm not getting enough money. I'm going to have to start slowly and work my way up. I'm more likely to get online if I tell myself I only have to get on for an hour instead of four.

I love this thread, and thank you for starting it!
I have always been the type to make big goals a thing, and have a to do list a mile long everyday.(Then I would feel dissapointed in myself for not even checking off half of them.)
I've been thinking about this subject a lot lately, actually, and just trying to relax and let the 'universe' handle the things I'm too overwhelmed to do/achieve.
I went to a funeral on Saturday of a close family member, who not only died way too young, but was the kind of woman who had long lists of to dos taped all over her house when she passed suddenly. I get it.
My small goal is to do only the things in a day that I really feel like doing, and aren't a mental or physical struggle. The time will come to do them.

Everything I have done in my life over the last 4 yrs, I have taken it step by step and I cannot believe myself how much it adds up.. In every area .. whether it's earning money or saving money or losing weight or washing dishes.. I break things down into lil steps so it's not so insurmountable.. for instance I save for my retirement $6 at a time and I have a few thousand and I just started it 2 yrs ago.. not much.. but if I didn't even start at all I would have zero.. I am currently losing weight and instead of thinking I need to lose 30 pounds.. I only think of it as I just need to lose 1 pound.. piece of cake.. then on to the next.. etc etc.. you get the point. It's kinda like making everything a game of how lil or how much you can do.. One SMALL step leads to BIG things!!

I'm having to change my way of thinking about my goals lately. I used to have such high goals and I would think if I can't make it all, what's the point? I wasn't grateful for what I was achieving because it wasn't this huge goal I had made up, and I would get discouraged really fast. So I would give up way too easily. Now I'm trying to break things down in to much smaller goals and I'm a lot happier because of it.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately too. I feel like I'm spending so much time worrying about all these things I "need" to do, and then suddenly Monday turns into Friday and I'm like, where did my week go? I feel like I've been missing out on other areas of my life because I spend so much time worrying and trying to do so much at once that I just forget to stop and enjoy all the small things.

I think this works really well for lifestyle changes like losing weight. If you really struggle with weight loss then consider making it even simpler like this month replace everything you drink with water or eat only X amount of calories for breakfast. Its important to focus on achieving this one small goal only until its a habit and just let everything else go. I think we often feel like we are failing if we arent achieving the main target. Small goals are about feeling great everyday for doing that one thing you wanted to do and knowing it is all counts towards where you want to be.

Wow this paints a very powerful image that beautifully ties into the making a small goal theory.

I don't make goals really. I kind of have an image in my head of what I want to achieve and then I meditate and ask source energy, or universe/god etc. to guide me towards my wish/dream. I stay unattached/detached to the dream/wish/goal eg. I am not unhappy without it in my life, but it would also be a bonus if I did have it in my life. This is the fastest way for me to manifest desires. Everything I do, is guided by intuition and it has always steered me the right way. When I start wavering from my intuition, chaos ensue and I am not a happy camper.

There are several ways in life to realize your dreams. There is will/hard work and determination and there is intuition/inner/spiritual guidance. I think we all use a combination of both methods.

That's great .. I like your way of thinking, I do a lil bit of both I would say.. how is this working out for you long term? I mean like you want a house you get it , you want a car you get it.. but those are just things.. I am curious if you have built a life that is long term sustaining or working towards that..

This thread couldn't come at a better time for me,so thank you
I'm on a mission to lose 100 lbs and if I think of that as my goal it seems huge and impossible. Instead I'm thinking more of losing 2lbs a week and even breaking it down even further than that: thinking "i will stick to my diet today" instead of "for the next week i will stick to my diet". That means if I slip off the wagon one day it's not the whole week, month, year ruined. It's just one day and I can start afresh the next.

Small goals are awesome. It's all in the mind.

I have a much easier time splitting up my daily camming hours into 3 shifts where I make a little goal. At the end of the day I still made my big goal, but it is much more motivation and much easier to acchieve. When I am for a big goal on a quiet day it might break my spirit.

I've done this my entire life and I have had many miracles happen. Things like being held back from crossing the street as a truck comes out of nowhere and nearly hits me. Met my husband after asking the universe for a kind, loving man who makes me laugh. Sixteen years later we are still together and in love like the first day. When I asked for jobs I always got them. But those times when I didn't ask or listen to the guidance I would end up in really bad situations and places. I once had my palm read and I actually have a double life line which means I have a protective spirit watching over me.

Love this thread! I always put so much pressure on myself to achieve big things and totally look toward the future. What that does is it stresses me out so much and makes me not enjoy/hate the present.

I went on a new wellness program and basically have been taking it one day at a time. It is amazing that I have made it to day 9, because normally I just quit at some point and get overwhelmed. Now though I just use the LOA and meditate on what I want and also realise that Rome wasn't built in a day and that things add up gradually.

that's great.. but I have to chuckle about my own experience.. I spent 8 yrs being single and I pleaded and begged for the man of my dreams as I deserved him.. they sent me a man who made me lose custody of my son, almost lost my house, broke my shoulder and taught me a new way of managing my finances. that's what the higher power thought what I needed..LOL.. NOt a man to be with to stand by my side unfortunately.. apparently I don't need this so called good life.. I am still trying to figure out such a disaster after staving off men for 8 yrs.. but I digress.

I belong to a group on fetlife that is all about bettering ourselves and setting goals to make our lives better. One of the things that we do is called the 21 day challenge. It goes a little something like this

For 21 days I will do X (X can be whatever you want for me it was drinking fruit and veggie smoothies and filming a fetish clip)

Then you report each day in this fashion

I will make a fetish clip every day for 21 days (1/21)

    The next day would be

I will make a fetish clip every day for 21 days (2/21)

If you miss a day you start back at zero and you keep doing it until you've done it for 21 days in a row. The idea is like DeepThoughts was saying, it takes 21 days to make something a habit. If any of you are interested, I'll make a 21 day challenge thread or we can do it here. It's a lot of fun because you get to cheer each other on and celebrate when we hit that 21 day mark.

I am a firm believer in baby steps. Small choices made in our everyday lives propel us towards larger goals. Large goals alone can overwhelm us and doom us to fail. It's all about those tiny decisions we make...

The key is to be unattached/detached to the outcome. Be happy with what you have in the present moment, very appreciative, grateful etc. because those emotions are what you can control. Abraham Hicks calls it alignment and being emotionally available to only the source. The better you feel in the present moment, the more likely you will attract the manifestation you desire. Like attracts like. When you beg and plead you end up sort of 'forcing' things to happen which may not be the best situation for you at the present time. It's not that the universe/god gave you a lesson nor is it your fault that you attracted that man. It was simply what happened. To move on is to tell a different story. From now on, you only attract men who are kind, loving and generous, (and whatever else you want in a man).

This Youtube vid explains it perfectly:

Everything you've been saying reminds me of this book I bought in high school. Intuition, spiritual guidance, detached from the outcome, etc. I've read that book several times. I think it's time to read it again. I stopped believing in this way of thinking when I stopped believing in god but that book had great advice about getting in tune with your inner voice.
