For those ladies who may get discouraged every once in a while...
...or when your inner critic gets more chatty than you would like her to be...
...or when self-doubt seeps in...(just before the "levees" break)
...or if you're on the fence about dancing...
I have found that drafting a manifesto works. A manifesto is a set of justifications that you can return to the next time you're confused, doubtful, anxious, etc. about what you're doing. It reminds you why you are doing this in the first place and keeps you on track.
My own super snarky manifesto addresses my financial insecurities and fear of what "others" might think of me that kept me on the fence about dancing...
Feel free to add your own...if not for you, do it for the lurkers.
MONEY Manifesto
1. Poverty is a good thing.
2. Shame is optional., student loan repayments.? Not so much...
3. Statistics reveal that historically, women (of color) are society’s highest paid earners.
4. Financial independence is overrated..
5. So what if my safety net (SO, parents, friends, etc.) unexpectedly folds?
6. What’s true for everyone else is certainly true for me.
7. Everyone must (think) like me.
8. Considering its fringe benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401K matching, etc.) and job security, exotic dance is an excellent long-term career choice.
9. Comparing myself to others has done wonders for me in the past.
10. Other people's opinions of me are absolute truths that never shift, and thus they're trustworthy.
