Default Getting Fired - How to get your job back?

I recently was fired from a club after working there for several years. This club is no-bullshit, very strict. Many girls have been fired at one point, and kept out for a few weeks to a few years depending on the situation. The owner has a reputation for having a bad temper and because I never see or talk to him, I don't think he has ever liked me very much. I was sent home a few months ago because I "mouthed off" to a customer who had tried to steal from me. That was my fault and I took complete responsibility for it. The other night I was trying to get through the crowd to do a dance I had been paid to do on a certain song. I said "excuse me" twice to a guy whose chair was blocking my way. He didn't hear me, so I nugged his chair an inch and forced my way through, saying sorry along the way. The guy flipped out and was very offended. He complained to my manager, and I was sent home. Even though my manager reassured me it wasn't a big deal and to come back tomorrow, the owner clearly did not agree. He gave my friend my license and told her I wouldn't be working there anymore and could come back after summer. He made my friend fire me, so I never got to speak with him directly.

I've never been fired from anything before. I wrote him a little note taking responsibility for my bad behavior and such. I'm going to wait a few weeks and then go try to talk to him. I'm wondering how to best handle this situation. I would love input on how to reassure this guy that I'm pleasant to his customers and an asset to his club. I'd also like input on how to build good relationships with management. I never interact with the owner - the only time you really speak to him is if you get a complaint. What he doesn't hear is the great feedback I get from his customers regularly. I'm good at my job, I just had a bitchy day and some bad luck.

You can't just go to another club and take your regulars with you? For them to be that "strict" is ridiculous. He was trying to steal from you and you mouthed off? LOL At my club he would have been punched, had his beer dumped on him and then been escorted out the door. I would take your talent elsewhere, make new girl money awhile, or take regulars with you, then go back after the dust has settled....maybe end of July?

I don't have any regulars. There are regulars of the club that I dance for often, but I don't keep contact outside of the club. Yes, I realize it's kind of bullshit but complaining isn't going to help. It's the best place to work in my area, hands down. I'm worried working elsewhere in the same area may hurt my chances at getting hired back quickly, so I'm planning some trips for May and can hopefully go back in a few weeks.

I agree that it is ridiculous for them to be that strict! The owner sounds like an unreasonable asshole. It was NOT your fault for mouthing off to that customer, he tried stealing from you! The club should have kicked him out for that, and you had every right to mouth him off. Same with that other guy, he was in your way and wouldnt move. It isnt fair for them to pin the blame on you everytime and instead of accepting that you should stick up for yourself. If you are too apologetic, they will continue to bully you around. Tell them you are a good worker and had a good rapport with the customers except for those particular incidents. But you had every right to react the way you did, and in the future, you will handle it better. You can try saying that but if it doesnt work you are better off working at different clubs outside of your area until the end of the summer.

The best thing to do is give it time for them to forget/get over it. You were explicitly told that you could return at the end of summer, so I'd give it at least a month or so before going back. I'm not sure why you think working at another club in the city would hurt your chances of getting hired back, but I really think that's your best bet. It's not like they're going to keep tabs on you or fault you for making money somewhere that will actually let you work. And who knows, you may find that other clubs aren't so bad when you put the time in.

Trust me when I tell you that they don't care what you do after you're fired. They don't call other clubs to see who's working where. Seriously....if you were going to be homeless and living under a bridge b/c they fired you, do you think they would care? You think they would offer you your job back? NO. You may be attached to this club and feel VERY comfortable there. But life goes on. Every girl has to audition at a new club some point in her career. You'll be fine once you get over the nervousness you have. You may even make MORE money at a different club. You have to let it go for now and call them at the end of July or August.

Yup, there once was a day when clubowners did care ... at least a little bit ... about the well-being of dancers. But that was probabiy driven by the fact that attractive, talented dancers were a rarity back then, meaning clubowners had a hard time replacing a 'lost' dancer. These days most clubowners don't give a 'rat's a$$' about dancers, since they are 'instantly' replaceable.

You have already done what you could to try and 'mend fences'. But this clubowner saw fit to both make sure you were fired, as well as avoid any direct contact with you. I wouldn't put much faith in the clubowner's supposed promise to rehire you at the end of the summer, either. IMHO going back to this clubowner with 'hat in hand', either now or at the end of the summer, would also place you in a position of 'owing' the clubowner.

As many others have suggested, it's time to explore different clubs.

PS on the topic of 'taking customers with you' to a different club, this is pretty simple. All you have to do is post a comment about whatever new club you wind up working at on your old club's stripclublist and tuscl pages. The comment may be yanked eventually, but it will remain posted long enough for at least a few customers from your old club to see it.

Thanks Melonie. Yes, I realize I would "owe" him, but thats what he wants. I know that fighting with him about it won't get me anywhere and I don't have much longer to dance so I guess I'm willing to put up with it. I'm not going to try after summer, I'm going to try in a month. I'm going to go work in TX and NV in the meantime.

There are other local clubs I'll stop by, but I wouldn't want to work at any of them long term. Thanks for the TUSCL tip! Thats a great idea

Don't even go back. My first regular club was run by a hypocritical bully hick & he would play these head games with everyone.

He doesn't deserve to make money off of you.

Follow Up: I went in in July after losing a little bit of weight. I took responsibility for being stressed out when I got in & asked what I could work on and fix to get my job back. They just said we don't have a spot for you right now & didn't say why even though thats what I was asking (not specifically for my job back). It sucks because all my friends work there. One of them recently (6 months later) showed the owner a picture of me (I've lost a lot more weight and am looking awesome) and said I was doing really well. Apparently he told her it still wasn't a good fit. I have no idea why I was fired and it's frustrating because there isn't anything in my control. I just want to work with my friends again! I also miss the money, of course.

It's weird because when I go to other clubs, the managers are so happy to have me. They love that I'm super hot, friendly, and a hustler.

Do you ladies think it's worth me going in again, looking awesome? Or should I just take my friend's word for it and assume it's a lost cause?

It sounds like the owner just doesn't like you, so unless he leaves or gets over it (seems unlikely given that he's already had time to cool off and forget about it), IMO there's no point in trying again and disappointing yourself, at least not any time in the near future. Enjoy the other clubs that are happy to have you and make your money there.

I think you should stay at the clubs where you are appreciated.

Sounds like you're in an abusive relationship, you keep trying to go back despite being treated badly. You didn't do anything wrong, you apologize and write an apology letter, you keep saying there's no other alternative strip clubs when I'm sure there is.

Don't worry about all your friends being at that club. You are here to work. If they won't take you back, fuck them.

Have I been living on independent woman island so long that I am out of touch with reality? Why the hell would you want to work for someone like that? They clearly do not value their dancers and in a job where your safety is and should be a top priority at all times, not giving a shit about your dancers is bad business. Find a new clubs and try to bring your friends over there. The customers that spend money will follow the dancers. Is the money really that good at the other club, were you making 1000+ every night?

They fired you because some snot nosed little boy of a customer ignored you and then threw a temper tantrum when you moved his chair. What are they going to do when someone tries to push past your limits in VIP??
