Just wanted to update quickly with a new product I found that is truly skin changing. Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. A few months ago Apple Cider Vinegar stopped working for me and 2 stubborn cystic pimples lodged themselves in my forehead for months-- this shit got rid of them within 2 days, I kid you not. Miracle product!!!!

Now I only use this, a weekly AHA mask for exfoliation, face wash, sunscreen and Shea Butter on my skin, nothing else. I still cut out silicone from all makeup too. My skin looks amazing.
Do your future self a favor and work hard now.

^I've used that under the Mario Bedescu clay mask and it worked amazingly but I never used it by itself. I love the clay mask though!

My routine is quite tedious but.....

    1. Am-
Use a wipe to remove any dirt/residue if need be
    Rinse face w cool water
    Heat filtered water via microwave
While the water heats up brush teeth and wash face

Steam pores open by placing face over container. You can also dip clean washcloth in water, wring out, and put on face

Smooth aloe on face and wait for it to dry. You will know when this has happened because moving your face will be difficult; it should feel stiff

Wash mask off w dr Bronner soap (tea tree or peppermint most recc). You can also simply rinse w cool water

Apply a toner (I make mine out of acv/(rose)water/lemon juice

Apply oil free moisturizer or coconut oil (very thin layer)

    Night
Wash face with dr Bronner or other Castile soap
    Rinse, Pat dry, apply toner
Apply oil free moisturizer or coconut oil; wait for dry

Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream like you would a concealer

    Extra precautions

Avoid meat, dairy, eggs, junk food, fast food, etc
DO NOT wear make up, fragrances if you don't have to
    Avoid prescription medication
Avoid liquids that aren't water or tea

I used to get cystic pimples..deep, huge, painful ones that cause scarring if you aren't careful. It was 100% from smoking, bad diet, alcohol, and using makeup frequently that suffocated my skin.if you live in the states, makeup here is largely unregulated with tons of bad shit in it, and I was plastering it on everyday to hide my bad skin so it was a vicious cycle. I also didn't clean my phone or pillow cases very often. I used harsh face cleaners.

    So I quit smoking,
started eating a lot of fresh pesticide free produce
cut out sugar (that's a huge one, it causes both acne and wrinkles)
    drank just water
Stopped wearing foundation and traded it in for a tinted sunscreen (that I wear everyday)
and I started using cerave face wash and moisturizing with unrefined Shea butter. That shit is amazing!!
Simplify your skin routine w as little ingredients and chemicals and fragrance as possible. Expensive does not equal good.
When I get the odd tiny breakout, I use a little tea tree oil or stridex pad on it and it clears right up.
Basically your skin is the largest organ you have and its reflective of your overall health and inflammation is a huge cause. Diet, stress, makeup, and smoking made me hate my skin for so long

I have managed to find whatever key to my facial acne (food, makeup, and cleansers), but I have bad/weird body skin, especially on my chest, shoulders, and thighs. Red and bumpy, sometimes with little white pimple-type things, sometimes with stuff that almost looks like blackheads on my chest. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do for body skin problems? I tried using the same cleansers that I use on my face, but that just made the skin crazy red and itchy.

^ do you think it might be those hard keratin plugs and not acne at all? I'm thinking it's not acne if its that different, for the thighs could it be bad razor burn?

Yeah, I think it might be keratin plugs. Hadn't thought of that. Thighs it can't be razor burn, as I don't shave up that high. Whatever it all is, it looks bad. So bad that I resisted HD video for about 18 months longer than I really should have, because I hate how it looks. Off to research what to do about keratin grossness!

I need to read and reread this. My skin is terrible. I stopped dairy for 6 months. It was ok, but not great. Started dairy back up and I'm bloated. yay.

I also like to add that if anyone has sudden onset acne they need to carefully check every prescription they are on.

I was told my sudden cystic acne was hormonal and there wasn't much they could do. I was uiven creates and prescriptions after trying natural means. I was told by my pharmacist none of my prescriptions have this side effect.

But something in my gut told my otherwise and I Google Drive each one and .001% of people taking one of mine have this side effect. I went off it and it stopped immediately. Now I'm waiting for the scarring to heal with regular facials.

I had hormonal acne my entire adult life until just 5 years ago. I tried every method to rid myself of it except going on Accutane. I finally went to an endocrinologist who put me on Spironolactone 200mg per day. Within 6 months ALL of my acne was gone. I did not change anything about my diet, lifestyle or skincare routine.

I wash my face with Purpose liquid face soap using just my fingers and follow up with Neutrogena moisturizer. I wash my face once per day and often sleep in makeup. No acne! The only time I have any pimples now is if I forget to take the Spironolactone for several days.

If your acne is primarily in the beard area (cheeks, chin, neck) your acne may be hormonal. If your acne is hormonal, nothing will work until you address the real cause - your hormones.

I love rubbing myself down, standing over a steaming pot, removing my makeup with coconut oil before doing a fast baking soda rinse. (want to change to rinsing with charcoal) Only problem is you end up slippery from all the oils when people hug you or sit down, but instantly makes your skin look sooo moisturized!

Oddly enough, I've added 2% organic milk back into my regular diet, and it has not negatively affected my skin. Feels like a very healthy addition to my diet, especially since I've been trying to find a good calcium food source. I've also noticed that eating lots of veggies early in the month seems to prevent pre-period breakouts for me.

Yeah, Spiro saved me when I was withdrawing from birth control in my early 20s (horrible breakouts!). Also helped me break my skin-picking habit. Having acne is terrible for confidence. My skin used to be fucked. I have the pictures to prove it!

I was able to stop taking Spiro in my mid-20s and have been able to maintain my skin through a combination of things that work for me (hot yoga, babying skin with gentle cleansers and good moisturizers, great diet full of green tea and veggies and whole foods, etc.).

Always glad to see another Spiro success story!

I had acne from probably 16-22 (I'm 23 now) and nothing ever worked.

Heres what worked for me in the beginning:
I decided that a process of elimination would be the best option so I started with my diet.
-No dairy, No meat, No soda/juice
    -10 day detox
    -80oz of water a day

    Products
    -Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser
-Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Serum (I have some face scarring, and this shit works!!)
-Organic raw coconut oil (as a moisturizer)

I also read weird tips & tricks that I tried: using ice on your face directly after rinsing off cleanser, not holding your phone to your face, don't touch your face, changing your pillowcase more often, using a separate small towel to dry your face.

Nowadays I just use Dr. Bronners tea tree oil soap or black soap and my skin is ok. I still use products with glycolic acid on a weekly basis because I have "ice pik" scars.

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I have a new product to mention.

While the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion is still my holy grail topical product, I started taking L-Lysine supplements and haven't had a single cystic pimple form since. Its easier to prevent them from happening at all than to treat them when they do occur. I don't know why it works but jesus it does.

    I take 1000mg a day.

Between this, buffering lotion, and avoiding silicone products my acne is effectively cured.

So my skin started goin crazy this year so recent I signed up for Curology a online derm service, you take pictures and fill out questionnaire they they send you a lotion and you can get meds. I have spiro. 1st month you only pay 5 for shipping then after its 20 per month. Im just started it so far seems ok, I think they also do retinol too. Also another service is Yo Derm its costs more tho I know they do Retinol.

I've had acne all my life even if I am not wearing make-up, even if I stay all day long wearing foundation, there's no big difference. I use La Roche Posay for cleansing and argan oil for hydrating (I know, it's oily already but argan oils and some others do not contribute to acne at all). What I know for sure is that it passes with aging, so the older I get, the less acne I have, same happened to some of my relatives, so in a few years, I'll barely notice a zit anymore.

If I remember correctly, spiro lowers oil production, so be extra careful when combining that with retinols! I'd just ramp up the retinol use even more slowly than is normally recommended, to make sure you give your skin enough time to acclimate. And moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

I also get the sense that bread doesn't break me out, but it seems to make my skin a bit more red / irritated-looking. I haven't confirmed that yet. Things like whole-wheat pita and tortillas don't seem to have the same effect, but if I start having whole-grain bread with sandwiches every day, that seems to redden my skin. Interesting on the dairy. I am currently eliminating dairy so I can see if it is a source of my skin issues. Would be amazing if I too could one day have cottage cheese or yogurt, but for now, NONE. Thankfully, I love almond milk lol.

On the bread topic, this is due to inflammatory response. Gluten and all things we should not eat effect inflammatory response. Inflammation is responsible for the redness associated with zits. Maybe try an omega 3 supplement when you eat healthy breads? Or include anti inflammatory foods along with your sammich.

I am also eliminating gluten. I am pretty much eating a strict paleo diet. I love eating this way, but it can be a pain in the ass. For me paleo and eliminating has always been about putting fourth effort, not being perfect all of the time...because you are doing better for your body and stressing about maintaining a strict diet and skincare routine also effects your acne lol.

I should slow it down and focus only on eliminating dairy for now, but my acne seems to be both hormonal and inflammation induced. Prob is with eliminating several foods at once, you will never know which exact food is or is not breaking you out. But, I can slowly reintroduce and see that way.

I have also found gut health is very important and recently have found out that I do have gut issues (constipation, gas, etc) I have chosen the paleo route for various reasons not just to fight acne...but not all vegetables and fruits are good for acne prone skin or those who have gut issues. Along with paleo, I am leary of foods according to the fodmap food list...which lists foods that are bad for people with gut issues. Goodbye, garlic, onions and anything left that I had to eat lol. It works with the paleo diet well. And I eat beans and oats once a week.

Diet didn't help at all for me. What truly changed the game was getting light chemical peels on a regular basis by a professional, and finding the right face wash and moisturizer. I get a peel done every month or two, like 3-4 times in a row, and then spend the rest of the year just using Image salicylic acid gel cleanser with my clarisonic (with the Luxe brush) and Cerave PM lotion. I then use sunscreen on top of that when I go out.

Seriously that's all I do now - regular facial peels, cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen.

Morning warm lemon water seems to be making a significant difference in my skin. I juice a lemon, add warm water, and drink that before I eat anything in the mornings.

A few days after I posted about how my acne was cured I had a huge breakout, the worst its been in a year.

I don't know whats going on. Its possible its stress. I haven't changed anything in my routine or diet (although diet has never effected my skin, even when i went on dairy/gluten/sugar free diet).

I have been super stressed and anxious lately. Or it could be hormonal. god damn it. I cursed myself by posting about my progress.
