Default Does anyone else take the stairs?

Ok so I live on the sixth floor and I'm kicking myself for living in this building for so long and always using the elevator. The only time I ever walked the six flights was when the elevator was out of service.

My rescue dog was okay with the elevator until one day I wasn't paying attention and the heavy door slammed into her side :/ since then she always pulls me to take the stairs. So I've been walking up and down the six flights 3 times a day and I have to say I'm feeling a lot better and more energized since I've started doing it regularly.

I think I've always taken the elevator because I've felt lucky to have an elevator in my building that wasn't old and rickety. A couple of my friends here in new york live in walk-ups and always gush about how lucky I am to live on the top floor with an elevator. So I guess I am lucky that I have the option to do one or the other.

But damn I'm so mad at myself cuz imagine what great shape my ass and legs would've been in if I had been doing this every day for the last two years. It took me getting a dog to realize how I could help my body doing something so simple.

So my question is, has anyone made the switch to taking the stairs and did you notice any changes in your body or stamina? Would love to hear ways people incorporate a little bit of working out into their everyday routine

Yep. It definitely makes a difference. Dancing finished what the Army started with my knees, so I've had to completely stop running in the past few years and switch to the stair master for cardio. Oh my god. I've always had a big butt for a thin girl, but regular stair workouts turned it into a serious booty. You know what I mean? Lol. 10/10 highly recommend stairs to everyone.

Yes. I take them every chance I get because in Florida we don't have them and they make your ass look great! I stayed in the 3 rd floor condo on my last trio and when I had energy and was off I ran up and down them.

Yeah! Love taking the stairs. I always take the stairs to my office on the 8th floor at school. At certain times there are so many people trying to use it that I make it up there before the people in the elevator do. I am a cyclist and do a lot of lower body workouts anyways, so it has never really been challenging. I don't think it's made much of a difference in my booty, but I probably only climb them a couple of times a week. It's such a good habit. Stairs take coordination and balance, and those kinds of exercises are really beneficial for your whole body and overall health.

That's a really sweet story about your dog They do so much for us! I recently had to start carrying mine up the stairs. She's an ooold mama min pin.

When I stayed at a friends house for almost a week I could not avoid taking the stairs because their house was a two story and they had a basement too. I was always going up and down the stairs all day long. I just loved it. Plus the tiny bit of weight I wanted to lose just melted right off. It was awesome. Wish I had the opportunity to go up and down the stairs like that again.

The stairs are great! I don't notice any difference in the way my body is sculpted, but I think it's more of a stamina builder than anything else. In order to reap the real benefits you'd have to either run up the stairs, or take two steps at a time.

My friend moved into an apartment not knowing that the "out of service" elevator hadn't been fixed in years, and the management had no intention of fixing it. So it was 5 flights of stairs the whole time she lived there. I remember thinking, how is this not getting her in great shape?

Ugh. At work we have two lonnng staircases to take when we get to the elevator. When I first started working there I felt so out of shape going up them. Now I'm used to it.

I live on the fourth floor and once I got stuck in the elevator so I'm afraid to use it! Apparently it breaks down a lot so yes I take the stairs. I've lived here for two months and haven't noticed much of a difference. Maybe 8-10+ floors would but 4 is too few to really get much benefit (besides endurance) -That has improved.

I normally use the stairs every chance I get. Since my feet are still healing tho, lately if my destination is several flts up I will say Fk It & use the lift bc walking hurts, but that aside, I say God Bless Stairs.

I had to take the stairs eight floors up into the library today. It felt great but when I got to my destination, it turned out to be a quiet floor (aka serious "no talking" library silence) and I was like:

I think I got winded around the 5th floor. Am I out of shape or are stairs supposed to be taxing?! I was also carrying by 80lb book bag...

When I lived in San Francisco, I took stairs everywhere. My hair dresser was on the 12th floor of her building. I HATED the elevator in that building! I took the stairs whenever I saw her. I also lived on a 4th floor walk up when I was there too.
