    Default Ingrown toenails!!!

I never really had them until I started dancing. I am now retired from dancing and I keep getting them. I do "cut across" properly like the doctor said but they keep coming back. I know my corns are permanent from dancing but what about ingrown? I just took them out, and they arent bleeding but i do see like a big hole, kinda pink. Sorry, tmi. But yeah, I got pretty good at taking them out with infection. I just want them to stop. I wear sandals almost all the time, so idk if its ever going away.

I had to have surgery on mine several years ago - both big toes on both feet and both sides of the nail- they look just a tad odd but I think it is just because I know -- I will try to get a pic for you - they numbed the area and cut down the whole length of the toe nail and down to the root - then they took a long q-tip type swap and dipped it in something and shoved it under into the cuticle area at the base of the nail to kill the roots - it looked like some type of torture - lol - for the most part they dont bother me but I go to a manicurist to have them cut - if I do it myself they try to grow back in at the top and they hurt

It really wasnt that bad - the alternative was way worse - I was in so much pain I couldn't take it anymore - the downtime was 2 or 3 days I think - it was 30 years ago so I dont remember exactly - I know it was not a week

Actually in my late teens early twenties I worked as a bartender ( the drinking age in Phoenix was 19 back then ) waited tables on occasion and I had a factory job that required steel toe shoes - I actually escorted for a couple of years before I started dancing at bachelor parties so I cant blame it on dancing

edited to add - I just realized you said I have MOM toes - lol

At- home hack for ingrowns- cut with a razor from the back of the nail, not the front. This loosens the "root" of the nail embedded into the toe. (Needlenose pliers can work for this kind of thing, some people use high quality tweezers.)

At a point it's not advisable to keep picking at your toe at home, you should go to a doctor.

If it isn't too extreme, a doctor can remove it in the office. Mine did.

I've always had this problem. So have my mom and sister, which makes me think it's hereditary even though I used to think it was from my dance heels.
I get a pedicure every week. Not just so my feet always look pretty, but for maintenance of this issue! Some nail salons have options on their menus for removal of ingrown nails. It usually costs a little extra, but it's well worth it.
Of course, if it's an extreme issue, probably best to see a doctor.

Princess, my mom has them, not my sis though. She even got a surgery on it because it had gotten so bad. Yes, I do get pedicures 2 times a week. I used to do once a week but I dont dance so I can manage 2 a month. It is still a problem. I will go see a doctor and see what she suggests because it hurts when they remove them or when I do them myself. Its just weird it wasnt a problem until I started dancing, if it is hereditary.
