    Default tipping dj

At my club tipping the dj is optional. I like to tip him 5 bucks a day anyway, he's generally a nice guy but doesn't do much other than announce my stage and then turn the fan on for me cuz I get so hot during my stage. What is a normal tip for the dj? Or should I even tip him if I don't have to?

My club has optional tipping also. The VIP bouncer and DJ are always first to gets tips no matter what I make (unless it will leave me broke). I start with $5. If the DJ keeps me off stage $10. I'll tip him for getting me new music too (He got me Du Hast last week after I had asked the previous DJ for 3 years). But our DJ handles music, mic work, the lighting and still has to clear tables, run VIP money, break up fights, and sweep the floor too.

I tip because I really like my DJ. Plus he is more likely to 'forget' I'm working on busy nights. His wife makes me cookies. And we play WoW together sometimes. I didn't tip the last DJ. He sucked.

The dj where I currently work is lucky if he gets $10 from me ha~ He's awful! Just downright lazy & rude.

It really depends on your club culture. Tipping isn't really a big thing in my neck of the woods, with most dancers not giving the DJ anything on top of their fee. There are a couple of DJs at my club that I will always tip $5-10 upfront because they will either put me at the end of the stage rotation or keep an eye and not call me out of the back if I'm supposed to be on stage. There's one DJ who plays by the rules regardless of tips (stage rotation determined by sign in order and no skipping), so I don't tip him unless he directly helps me make money, which is rare. Any time one of the DJs help me make money (usually skipping me on stage), I'll tip them $10. Skipping me on stage means I make at $80 in the 4 songs it'd take for my stage show, so I feel that's a decent tip.

I don't tip for nothing or to get on the DJ's good side, but I know there are many clubs (especially down in the US) where that's necessary because the DJs can be more vengeful over not getting tips, even if they do nothing for the dancers beyond their job.

If you're close to any of the other dancers at your club, ask what they do. If not, try and observe when other ladies sign in/out and interact with the DJ to see if any tipping is happening -- and then see how the DJ treats them. Does he do them any favours? If so, maybe it's worth tipping him more, at least when you want him to do something for you. If not, I think you're worrying for nothing.

We're required to tip 10%, which is split between the DJ and the bouncers. I tip extra, if they do something extra for me, like running to my car, reducing cover for VIP, so I can get a custy in there or moving me in the stage rotation.

I did tip last night's DJ an extra $20 before my shift. He's a really good DJ, he always plays music he knows I love and tailors the music not only to the crowd but to how I'm dancing. If he notices that I'm on the pole less or am not moving as well, he'll slow things down. I really just wanted to let him know that I appreciate him. He was shocked, so I guess it's not overly common.

Dj is required $5 tip. Now I on occasion tip extra but it only if they added new music or I had to skip stage rotation to go in vip.
