1. The ATO does not consider camming to be something that requires an ABN. You don't need an ABN to cam.
2. The ATO considers any income from camming as 'foreign income'. You just need to claim your earnings as 'foreign income' in your normal tax return you do every year. No separate tax forms are required.
3. Foreign income is taxed at the EXACT same amount as any normal income you get in Australia from a job. So that means that if you earn under $18,000 it is considered under the tax free threshold and you won't get taxed for it. Anything about $18,000, it will we 20c in your dollar or 20% of whatever you earn over $18,000.
For claiming to Centerlink:
1. As of Jun 2015 all payment estimates will be going from yearly estimates to fortnightly estimates. This will be applied to all payments from Centerlink (Family Tax, Austudy, Newstart, etc).
2. Centerlink does not discriminate about where you get the your money from. As long as you tell them who much you are earning each week/fortnight, they really don't give a damn what you do to get the money.
3. Centerlink wants you to tell them what you earn each week/fortnight so they can adjust your payments accordingly so you are going to need to track how much you earn each week/fortnight.
