Mine lasted a loooong time as well. I kept my computer for 8 years. Made repairs here and there but I mainly bought a new one because the hard drives are much faster now.

I didn't get too much of a chance to experiment because shortly after the install, Expendable Laptop refused to boot. I tried everything I could think of, but couldn't even use any recovery tools because it wouldn't recognize the DVD drive. I don't know whether Win10 killed EL, or EL was just too old and battered to handle Win10. I might be able to fix it, but I don't want to waste time on a computer that's worth about ten bucks.

Regardless, I'm hearing some stories about people having issues with Win10 and am perfectly content to wait a while before installing it on Main Computer.

Knock wood, I've had no issues yet.

I was stuck getting Windows 10 on a new laptop. I hate it. It may as well be Apple OS. Things I consider basic display settings are now buried and changeable only through editing the windows registry. They put social media crap right in the start menu, hid much of the "guts" of the system, and turned it into a Facebook/Tweet machine.

Lookup privacy setting for Windows 10 to address the main concerns. There are setting you should change. Windows 10 doesn't uninstall programs but my guess is that based on the name of the article's web site people are running cracked software than can be a security threat, particularly loaded with trojans, not the rubber kind. Those maybe disabled by Windows security. All of these concerns have been addressed by mainstream websites and debunked.

So the "Get Windows 10" icon now opens a dramatic COUNTDOWN to July 29, the last day the free upgrade will be available.

What are YOU going to do?! I haven't installed it yet and just can't decide.

I have Windows 10 on my work computer. I prefer Windows 7 and will be keeping it on my home computer as long as I can. The one nice thing it has is touch-screen, but I hardly use it.

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to keep using Windows 7 for quite a long time, especially if you mainly use it for the internet. Future versions of Microsoft products, such as Office, may not be compatible with Windows 7.

Windows is aiight. I wont F**k with it though. Prior to web development my hobby was Penetration testing(AKA Hacking) . It isn't the fact windows is any more exploitable than all the other systems per say, but rather the fact that the vast majority of desktops use it that makes it a death trap. There is a framwork white/black hat hackers use known as metasploit and out of the 1500+ vulnerabilities in existence, over 1100 of them are windows! It's Linux/Mac urryday 4 me pimp

I took the plunge, I actually like Windows 10 after I got used to it. Never had a "blue screen of death." Only thing is it does take a lot of memory and processing power, so it's better if you have a good machine. My laptop takes about 3 to 5 minutes to before my harddrive light turns off. My "bad-ass" gaming PC boots up in about 10 sec to 15 sec for power button to desktop. It's has 2 SSDs.

2 SSDs sounds like a serious rig. How much RAM and what video card do you have? I had issues with video drivers with Windows 10 in the beginning.

I did it! At the 11th hour as the timer counted down... No issues on my ASUS 'gamer laptop' for PhotoShop. My Win7 Lenovo can't handle it, display drivers will not work w Win10, so looks like I'm keeping 7. .. .and happy with it!

Well, I have Lenova too, it says it's past the time though? Keeps telling me I have counterfit software, which I don't.

There's a loophole that still gets you the free upgrade if you say you use "assistive technologies." I think I'm still sticking with 7.

I wonder how many people out there are still using 95/98? Or even 3.1?
