He is a humorist, so it is funny, and all humor has an element of truth
I think it hits the usual talking points a little heavy and is thus not that interesting really

Oh no, not this can of worms.
Lord have mercy....
I almost feel sorry for men who hate women, due to either: fear of women, mommy problems, or girlfriend problems. Or...thinking that women are the inferior gender for some reason or another.

I just finished the recording from This American Life that he linked to in the article. Part four didn't interest me at all because it's really just a mom trying to identify with her son's standard teenage angst. Part two stood out to me the most because it's about the experience of the FtM transition from a "post-feminist." It's interesting to hear about how his interactions with others changed, especially since he's effectively been both genders.

Even though it's written in a humorous way, I think it actually opens the door for a serious discussion of what pretty much solely amounts fear of emasculation by women due to issues in our culture. It's a much broader topic than the specific (and probably needing therapy) issues like "mommy was a bitch to me."

I don't feel sorry for woman haters. I had the huge misfortune to be friendly with a "Menist" guy in high school. He was ridiculous- he thought rape jokes were funny, he talked shit about the poor Duggar-like Christian girl he ended up marrying, and allowed his own sister to date his abusive friend "Carl." I don't know where this kid got these ideas, his parents and siblings were really nice people.
Now he's an ugly shut in who doesn't get laid. Big surprise there. (BTW we were friendly via our involvement in music.)
It's mostly manosphere talking points presented in a humorous way, so pretty much all bullshit. Only men who can't get any women feel like that.
"Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: 'A horrible person.' We weren't even testing for that."

I don't know. Even though they are some of the usual suspects, this particular writer's way of expressing it - comedy aside - really kinda resonated in a way that made me think. A couple of them are things that bitter single men (and "menists" who somehow manage to date) are just gonna have to deal with, like women being an increasingly equal part of the workforce and more than capable of doing traditionally "masculine" things. A couple of the other points actually struck a chord with how society does both genders a huge disservice.
But I suppose it's a comfort to hear that most men in relationships don't feel that way?

I don't do a single one of those things, also, not every person "shows his penis at age 6 etc etc". I do feel like I might be misogynistic sometimes because I have this belief that there are actually deep rooted gender roles, but no one has ever accused me of it and I am lucky to have great relationships with women. Probably only dudes that are secretly jealous of women hate them the way this author does.

Honestly I found the article to be rather goofy. While I do believe that men are struggling right now to figure out what they are supposed to be in these modern times, his theories are simplistic and the underlying rationales that he presents for why men may feel the way they do on some matters are just silly musings from his comedic imagination.

I don't actually feel sorry for misogynists. I just give up. I stopped giving a shit. Men who feel this way are only harming themselves and making themselves miserable. Every man has a feminine side deep down, as does every woman has a masculine side. It's all part of the yin-yang and equilibrium of life. To deny this is to deny one's own humanity. Hating half the population is extremely damaging to one's own psyche.
But yeah, I can't take this article seriously at all. Liberate yourself from trying to figure out sexism. It's a waste of time. Haters gonna hate.

This is actually one of my favorite articles of all times, because it describes the social battle of the sexes so well. The interesting thing is that most of these can also be applied to women in relation to men. As women we are told that we deserve a handsome, rich prince who will rescue us from our boring lives for no reason. We're told that men are all evil rapists who will do anything to trick us into having sex with them, and that men have historically tried to subjugate women and turn us into slaves. And the worst part is that we feel powerless in front of men, because we fall in love with them and they seem to have the power/money/aloofness/confidence bestowed by society.

That's what I was thinking, zoe: that every point was purposely exaggerated for comedy and illustration, but they're still valid points that affect both genders either directly or indirectly as themselves or as a counterpart to them. Obviously the wack-jobs who blatantly think these things are in severe need of therapy, but I can't help thinking both genders subtly feel these ways from time to time when it's something that's more or less been instilled throughout our formative years.

Certainly men spend an awful lot of time doing things that will help them to be in a better position to get laid. not sure I buy even the humorist theory that this causes men to hate women. I'd say those men that hate women, hate them because for the same reason that most people hate anyone, frustration at their own inadequacies. Easier to blame and hate someone else than yourself. Of course the author is exaggerating in an attempt to be funny. I didn't think the article was particularly funny though. just my 2.5 cents.
